Let's try something totally unheard of: if you post in the "Single players... " thread looking for an alliance to join, and someone PM's you with an invitation to consider joining their alliance, if you've already joined one, or just aren't interested, try hitting that button that says "send reply", and type "No, but thanks for the offer... "

I just assume that anyone who doesn't respond within a day isn't interested.
