FUN AND BALANCED...?

Up to now I have enjoyed the game. Pretty addictive. The events can be challenging but not to the point where it seems hopeless. Thick as Thieves was starting to get tough! But I could still rank in the top 10. One time I was number 1 for awhile!

The game was challenging. I had figured out a good combination with my strongest characters. With OBW, Wolverine and Thor I could sometimes clean up with no damage! Figured out the best way to approach each villain team. I had to manage my ISO between leveling up my characters and buying boosts. I had to use all color boosts to even survive against level 230 Ares or Daken. Brutal but fun! It was a challenge and I was enjoying it. Then BOOM...while we are all grinding away in Thick as Thieves the developers decide to change things to make them even more FUN and BALANCED!

Thor and Wolverine get nerfed. Thor's combination of red to yellow would get me out of alot of tough spots. Wolverine would help stack up damage to beat down the level 230 Ares or Jugs before they started whaling on my team. Wolverine could heal up after tanking major damage from 230s. Now they are border line useless. There goes my rank...but....FUN AND BALANCED!

Then the cost for boosts goes up! I HAVE to use boosts to survive against 230 teams. Now that they cost 100 hero points there is no way I can go on without buying them with real money! There goes my rank...but FUN AND BALANCED!

I guess their is another definition for fun. At the moment I am not enjoying the normal definition of that and I am all for balanced game play but why the heck would the developers make these changes right in the middle of an event??!?!? I think I'm out until I understand the definition of FUN AND BALANCED!!!

  • Yea it's a real mess. Most devs would issue some kind of public apology or maybe even a token reward to all the people that were inconvienced ...

but all we get are crickets.

I don't think they understand (or care?) how powerful word of mouth is and what kind of effect that can have on the success of a project.
  • But it's more FUN now right??? Barf

  • It's very simple really. Everyone has only as much power on you as you grant'em.

Do you still play? Then you approve all their methods, and beg them to carry on.

The only language devs understand is money (and maybe player population). They won't start to think as long as they get away with whatever next schenigan.

Do you still support them? Well, then you just deserve what you get in return.

Do you (still) have fun playing this thing? If so, just carry on and enjoy (while it lasts). If not really, just got kinda addicted to the grind, better think again. And look for something else. With actual fun, not just idle hope.
  • I have already convinced a half dozen people not to play this game and I am just getting warmed up. I have spent over 200 hours since October playing this game, so plan to spend at least half that convincing others to stay away... They devs took a promising and potential fantastic game and destroyed it either through greed or incompetence...
  • I wonder if the problem isn't that Wolverine and Thor got nerfed, but that they got nerfed at an extremely poor time.

Specifically, they were nerfed while a tourney was going on (with an entry fee) where they were two of only a small pool of characters that you could use. Therefore, when the nerf happened it screwed up a lot of teams for that tournament. I personally gave up on that one after the nerf, because I simply couldn't compete anymore.

Also, they nerfed them at a time when one of the worse PvE events ever run is still on going. The devs have acknowledged that Thick As Thieves is a failure and needs some retooling already, so that's not a surprise. However, Thor and Wolverine were some of the only ways for most players to reliable win against LV 230+ enemies, especially Maggia Muscle.

And this is on top of other changes like +3 All AP getting a cost change.

And then this was also a time where they had a Wolverine tourney coming right up. I sold my Wolverine and Thor for a desperately needed injection of ISO the DAY before they announced the Wolverine tournament and felt like a dumbass.

So it might not be that the nerfs were "bad", but that they were done at the very worst possible time for them to nerf those two particular characters.

    Yessir.

    Good plan, go go!

Devs turned over to the dark side, better not drag too many others along.

Yeah I completely agree. Personally I've dumped alot of time to try and get these characters leveled up because together they get me through the events. So you'd think that they'd keep that in mind before they go changing the characters so dramatically. Even more mind boggling is the fact that they did it in the middle of an event! I just want to uninstall the game and never touch another D3 game again. It feels like they did it on purpose so you'd feel forced to buy upgrades or even ISO to finish the event! Tough changes and horrible timing. They made a fun and challenging game into an upsetting attempt at a money grab. I would of bought this game because I love the characters and the game play is challenging. Now I just want to forget this all.

    Totally agree.

D3 is a company, and like any company, they need to make a profit. The freemium model has proven to be far more profitable than selling a premium game. Come up with a solid game, dangle collection building/leveling carrot over your user base, throw in an energy system, the means to speed progression up through purchases, add a license such as Marvel and you end up with a winning combination. I think it's safe to assume that the Marvel license has to be pretty darn expensive. In the end they have to turn a profit.

If they feel you're prorgressing faster through this game than expected, without enough downtime (insentive to purchase health packs, iso, and covers), then they'll find a way to slow the game down. That's what we're seeing, fights that last longer, that leave you with more downtime. Sure there are some that don't have a problem with that, that seem to have all the time in the world to invest in mobile game that appears to be casual (it's not though). These folks (more power to them) can earn rewards, and progress without making purchases, or perhaps with limited purchases. Ironically it's the casual players that end up sinking money into games like this for lack of time. They're the ones supporting the freemium model, making it possible for others to enjoy the game at no cost, and for companies like D3 to rake in the cash. But it's these casual players that end up losing the most, with a pvp model that's just broken, with not much of a PVE environment at all, who have spent their cash to speed things up, only to be met by nerfs, and events that pit you against horrible odds.

It's a great game engine. A wonderful IP. But in its current state, it's not for me, so I'll talk with my wallet, and simply avoid playing it. Will find my casual fix elsewhere. Though that's getting harder and harder to do these days on the mobile platform, seeing how freemium is spreading like cancer.
