The End?

I have enjoyed quite a lot of hours with your marvellous game. However, a think struck me today - what is my GOAL with this?

Sure, collecting cards, getting a good roster up is a lot of fun and serves as a good intermediate goal. But what then? Sure you can try out other characters, but the emotional high of winning another tournament must wear off.

So I though about an mpq ENDGAME.

What if there was an "boss fight" at the end, similar to how the prologue is always present, with bosses that required the absolute best teams available as well as luck and skill to defeat. I don't know the balance, but something like 3x3 level 240 enemies you had to defeat without healing inbetween. To keep things interesting, a scoreboard could be kept where a score based on things like damage taken, moves spent, boosts used, etc, could detract from a "perfect score", meaning people reaching the endgame could compete.

In my mind this could keep the game fresh even when you reach the level where the goals seem to diminish.

Thoughts?

  • Most games like this (and similar free to play MMOs) do not have an endgame, because the devs don't want their players to quit and stop their microtransactions. Because of this, they will gradually release new content to renew your interest. In this game, it would be new heroes or different events.
  • Well, if you compare it to "cow-clickers" (Farmville, etc), mpq has a the unique position that you are fighting, ie. have something to overcome. There isn't any social aspect, where you can brag with your stuff - you've just got a team of heroes that beats pretty much anything.

I think that an endgame would actually extend the time the game would be interesting, since it would be a competition between only the top 0.1% of the players, fighting for a place on a leaderboard. Also, if the endgame becomes to common, you could always extend it with another tier.
