Please make the game playable for casual players again!

Let me beginn to say that this isnt supposed to be another nerf-whine thread!

I just found that in the light of the last events that there is nearly nothing left for casual players to do.

What do I mean with casual players? Ppl who just like to play a mission now and than. Ppl who dont want to compete in big PvP tournaments, for example because they dont have that much time on their hands. Ppl who cant plan their whole day after a mobile game.

In the beginning there was the prologue to play. That was really awesome because u had some characters and the missins gave u
a) covers and b) standart token that in turn gave you mostly 1* covers.
This was awesome, because u only needed the 1star chars to get through the missions and by completing missions you got covers for the chars you were actually using.
In the end they even gave you 2-3 covers of the same 2star heros, so you could use them as well! Even more awesome, because you felt like you actually achieved something over the missions!

And after that?
Well you had half a Thor and half a Storm so with wome luck and random heroic tokens from random events you were able to get a thor, a storm and a wolverine.. which was all you needed to do well in a tournament now and than.

So you did that and... thats pretty much where everything ended.
Because at some point you hat a collection of random 2star chars but nothing but competitive events left.
(And everyone you fought against was at the same point lol)
Which in turn meant that just doing some matches here and there was either not possible, because other ppl had just better teams and you never got enough points to win something usefull or the things you won got more and more useless to you, because you just ended up discarding tons and tons of covers you already had and just dont need anymore.

Than there were the PvE events, which was very cool to beginn with, because HEY STORYLINE!
But unfortunatly it turned out, that since the events are all timed you only have a certain amount of time to get the points for the progression rewards.. and everything else is competitive again. So no cool cover prices for casual players as well.

Dont get me wrong, I like doing an event now and than and I even manage go get something usefull sometimes, but it pretty much ends you with half a 3star character.. and no way to complete him.
Why? Because after the promotion event for the char ends, getting the covers you need will be impossible (--> hulk, punisher..).

So what can you do? And here is the frustrating part, because he answer is: NOTHING (except spend money lol)!

Standart token wont get you to finish any 3star chars.
Heroic Token are more often than not replaced with Special Token that only give you 3-4 different chars and more often than not you only get the 2star characters from the pack.. in the wrong color lol
And if you manage to get a heroic token.. its mostly the wrong character and or the wrong color.
Rewards in tournaments get appointed higher and higher points you have to reach, which it gets more and more difficult to do so.. for various reasons.

What I want to say is, that we are completely missing any chance to casualy play the game in the long run.
You can power through and get cool rewards, sure. But WTH wer we supposed to do in those 15minutes while we wait for the dinner to get ready? Or while on the bus?
There are no missions you can play now and than and that will give you something thats actually USEFULL in the end. You dont even have a long term aim you can work to finally archieve or hard über-bosses you can try and try again to make them drop something sweeeeet.

Because all there is are PvP events that dont even give the covers you want as rewards and PvE events that only promote the newest hero.. and leave you with another half-finished character.
.. and the more characters there are the worse your chances get to finish any of them..

Thats why I ask to PLEASE give players a chance to play this game long-term and casual as well.
I really dont care how, just that after a half finished hulk, a half finished punisher and a half finished patch... I just dont see much use in playing anymore, because all I can win is a half finished daredevil.. thats if Im lucky icon_e_sad.gif

  • Would love to see a non-competetive event.
  • Agreed. Honestly, I'm by no means a casual player, but a larger "casual" part of the game would be a great addition. There's a prologue, for instance, but no permanent story-line missions to follow it. Some of the PVE event stuff should really be made into an in-game fixture instead of a timed thing.

This is totally what I was saying in viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2802

    I agree 100%

All of the tweaks of late were to compensate for or cater to hardcore players.

Katai, in the other thread said it perfect when he said "The base game is fun. The constant fight against other players, however, sucks. Not everyone is competitive, first off, and having to spend money and huge blocks of time to stay competitive is ridiculous. It's a freaking match-3 game. Why do I need to block off an hour before a tournament ends to get any meaningful ranking? This isn't an MMO! I don't want to attend pre-scheduled raids! I want to play a round of super-hero bejeweled while I'm in the car!"

I'll add to that a round in the bathroom after lunch icon_e_smile.gif. Why does everything except going back into the prologue missions have to be stress inducing?
  • Trust me when I say this game isn't fun for hardcore players right now either.

We get stuck into crazy hard pvp matches against all 100+ teams and I see the guy right behind me only has level 45 characters and gets easy fights.

For PVE, ever since the first sub, I've only seen level 230 enemies. I went from constantly being competitive in events to being not even remotely close in this daredevil event
  • Would love to see a non-competetive event.

    This would be nice.

An event with choices of direction, go down web avenue if you need a spidey, or green lane for a hulk. Make it interesting, make it hard but acheivable, make it so a loss puts you back at the beginning if you must, just something i can complete at my leisure.
  • I agree too. Surely the very definition of a Prologue would suggest a whole load more content to follow it icon_e_confused.gif Seeing as the game is now labelled as 'Launch Edition' I am worrying that the rest of the single player story based content will never surface, or was never planned in the first place. I would love more single player missions in the same style as Prologue with rewards based on characters included in the storyline, and enough of them so you can finish them or at least get alot more than a half finished one.

Another thing that annoys me as a more casual player than most. The Progression rewards. I assumed this would be a stead accumulation of points as I advanced up through the rewards, but no, it isn't a Progression at all it is another Ranking system where if i am attached in Shield or an event this level of points I have earned goes down. If this takes me below the last reward level it doesn't mean I can claim that reward again as I climb back up, I just have to struggle past it and try and reach the next one! Drag me down in the Rankings if i am defeated by all means but don't touch the 'Progression' ladder.

Having said all that i am still thoroughly enjoying the actual game and the collection side of things.
  • I think adding the episodes as persistent content (with the ranking rewards removed, of course) would go a long way towards this. Next to the "prologue" tab we could have tabs for "episode 1," "episode 2," etc., with them getting added some time after the events end. It would allow people to max those out at leisure, and add some content for people who either can't compete in pvp yet, want to try out untested team combinations, or just prefer single-player campaigns.
  • As what I would call a semi-casual player, I concur with all that's been said so far.

As someone who is more in the close to maxing his ** chars out, while I'm not stuck fighting all level 230's, I too am unable to complete much of anything since the first sub, and when I do, I typically have only one team member left who barely survives the encounter. Quite frustrating. Finding myself playing more Ascension the lats few days and just downloaded Magic 2014 (though can't stand the implementation)... Wondering if I'll end up fading away on MPQ and back at straight Bejeweled.

I too would love to see the PvEs be persistent.

You just like bashing down all those 230 groups, do ya? icon_e_wink.gif
  • My fiance is playing this game casually and she's basically stuck. She really only plays once a day on the weekdays when she comes home from work before we decide to play something else. She wants to do more stuff, but the prologue gets you minimal covers of 2* characters and then tells you "good luck."

Of course, I think by the time the devs fix this issue, she'll probably not be playing anymore.

They could easily fix this issue by reworking the SHIELD tourney. Allow for shields and remove all the three-star rewards and replace them with more two-star covers (or heroic tokens).

You still have to 'earn it' and you don't have to create any new content.

    Smart smart smart...
  • I had to reset my tablet to factory defaults recently so I decided to reinstall Marvel and start from scratch since I'm pretty stuck on my main guy.

It turns out the changes they made to the prologue since I played it (I played it back when you needed like 50 covers per character) have made it really difficult to progress. There are lots of places to grind for ISO and Boosts, but there are hardly any covers of Recruit tokens.

Oh and they're now giving out Bagman covers in the Venom mission! REALLY?!?!?!? Talk about bilking your new customers out of their cash! When you're short on cover slots already, they're giving you a 2* character like he's super good, when he's truly the worst character in the game. God that's infuriating.

My point? The new player experience is just as bad as the mid-level and hardcore experience right now. Nice.

What's even more funny is that you have to use Classic Spidey in a lot of the missions in the Venom chapter, which means you can't even use Bagman for a lot of them.

That didn't occur to me, and you're right, that is actually pretty funny. In a sad way...

Totally agree. It's not a lot to ask either as the core campaign/story resides in those episodes. All is needed is remove the competitiveness/leader board when moving it to the prologue.

Basically this. Remove the leaderboard, change up the rewards, and then you have a bunch more single player content.

Haha, it's pretty lame. Easily my biggest complaint is this messed up PvE event.
  • I'm still advocating the fact that the devs should release the episode/chapters now as a constant pve with a timed refresh. Considering they are now up to the 3rd episode, I don't think it would be unjustified to implement the first episode as a permanent pve section now. It allows those pve exclusive players to enjoy the story without the pressure of having to do well in a leaderboard, it gives a good source of iso for all manner of players, and introduces a nonstressful way of playing.

Every time a new episode comes out, they should introduce a chapter about 2-3 episodes back for those that didn't get to enjoy the story being told. What they can also do is make enemy battles static levels, and create a progression on that. I.e. episode one can only be limited to heroes between levels 20-30, or something along those lines. This way, you also encourage a player to progress, become stronger and use strategy (hopefully).

As for rewards, there does not need to be any tournament structure, and you can keep the standard rewards as they are now in pve events: a boost, a recruit token, 100 iso, and 500 (or maybe 250).

The time for missions to refresh would be up to the devs research into it. The tournament structure is nice, but it shouldn't be forced on the player. It should be utilized as a way of disseminating new covers, but a player should be able to choose if they want to participate or not. By not choosing to enter an event, there are times when that's the only event happening and now you have no reason to play until that event is over or until a new event pops up. Adding onto the main pve portion without a tournament structure would greatly change that and bring more players into the game and keep them.
