Ultron event = huge disappointment.

I just want to say how higly disgusted and let down I am with the Ultron event. I was so looking forward to this event and then the day came and what happens the servers crash, what also is going on well season 13, Identity Theft, First Avenger and a whole ton of other events thus making the ability to play the game almost impossible.

I am highly dissatisfied with the way the Ultron event is relying so heavily on your alliance in a game where the players feel as if they are being chased off by the game developers. As someone who has spent money on a game I enjoy, yes I actually still enjoy the game, I wish more thought would have gone on about when this event should have gone off. Perhaps it would have been a smarter call to simply wait and launch the event Monday the 27th after the season and events were over so we as players could focus solely on Ultron rather then try and do a million things at once.

I would love to hear from someone at D3 about why this went down this way or if there is going to be any kind of compensation to those of us who lost money, points, and covers because we couldn't get in to compete for the things we needed while others could? How about being a company that cares and doing something to explain and make your players feel wanted for once.

  • The problem with this event is that when they're testing stuff they don't have the same pressures as players do. That is, suppose D3Will is a MPQ all star that dominates everyone in all his MPQ adventures, and IceIX decided this event was dumb so he'll skip it and the D3 playtesting alliance ultimately failed to beat round 6 (or 7, or 8) after investing a ton of time in it and IceIX's points would've been enough to meet the requirement, we'll assume D3Will wouldn't feel insulted the IceIX didn't pull his weight and lobby for him getting fired. But if this happened in an alliance you'll definitely expect some bad blood in a game that already has a rather high amount of turnover.

It's questionable whether they even spent that much time since you're looking at a huge productivity loss if the playtesting alliance was even going for round 6 let alone anything further. Most likely they went a few rounds and extrapolated the numbers and figured that was good enough and didn't think about what happens when you take say 3 sessions and extrapolate to a 4.5 day continously grind, and how devastating it would be to fail to clear round 6 and feel like all your time is wasted. After all, no one on the D3 staff is going to quit their job for not getting a SW cover, but a player might quit the equivalent of their job (playing the game) for the same thing.

I always thought that for playtesting session, it should be simulated like if the dev team failed to meet their goal they should all be fired. New MMR changes? Take a guy from dev team and have him try to hit 1000. If he can't he gets fired too. And then maybe they'll have some idea of why players are always in a riot over these things. I don't mean that the players are correct for taking the game way too seriously, but the devs absolutely should take that into perspective, and then either:

    1. Make things doable.
    2. Investigate why players take the game so seriously and address the root causes.

The ultron event was fun and awesome for the first 2 nodes in the ultron prime sections. The ultron with the bombs was innovative and exciting the wheel of nodes with the PITA swarms was also innovative, but then it just got too hard, unless you had a full 20 person alliance it couldn't be done. I think it would have been better if the event scaled based on the nearest group of 5 in your alliance (5,10,15, 20) that way if you tried it was doable, grindy, but doable.

I give the event innovative ideas and creativity solid A.
    Execution and planning D+
  • I'm part of a barely top 250 alliance, and we managed to make it to round 7 on the first run.
  • The event itself is fine for me. The problem is the reliance on the alliance's performance. I can see why they did it this way. If a player could swap alliances then players with high score could jump in an alliance, open the Ultron Prime nodes and then do the same with a second or even a third alliance. I hope they find a way to address this issue because right now it's way too hardcore for a silly game, like MPQ, to ask new and old players to play every 8 hours for 8 days.
Something that bothered me a lot was the drop rates for 3* covers from the tokens for me were terrible. In the first run I got 1x4* and 2x3* from ~24 tokens. This time it's much, much worse. From 14 tokens I have 600 HP, 3500 ISO and 12x2*. I don't know who from the devs had the stupid idea to add 3500 ISO as a reward, but they should beat him with a stick until he turns blue. It's hard enough already to pull a 3*+ cover and you add 3500 ISO as a reward? Really?
  • I also was really looking forward to the event. even with the server problems it was fun until like you said you hit round 3 and your alliance starts to drop off. I run a more casual alliance, we have fun and only really buckle go full force on certain events. we have a full 20 person crew, myself and maybe 5 others can play at a high level. another 11 are almost done transitioning to 3 star level. the other 2 are just barely into the 2 star category. but we all have fun. 2 days into it we were entering round 4, meanwhile top level teams were done. luckily we didn't have any in fighting about people not carrying their weight since that's really one of our only 2 rules. everyone was crazy excited but it was no fun for our beginners. they would get a few turns then get wiped out. we all know teams like the x-men will definitely finish. it was just too hard for everyone else not sitting on maxed out characters. if the health was lower for ultron I think it would have been a more enjoyable experience. hats off to the creativity though.
