Nonce's return

I remember Nonce left the forum a few weeks ago, saying he would return eventually if the game was better (to sum up things).

I'm very happy you're back, but do you really think the game is better now than when you left ?

What made you decide to come back ? I'm very curious to read your opinion about that.

Don't tell me you were so hooked on the game you had to come back...

  • Let's let Nonce (and anyone else) come back on their own terms, and not subject anyone returning to the game to an interrogation. We don't want to discourage people coming back. I"m thrilled to have Nonce back - he's one of the best people on the forum - but let's be sure not to drive him away.

Agreed. A few retired/semi-retired people are coming back for the Ultron event. Hopefully this brings them back full time icon_e_biggrin.gif

From what I have written, where could you assume it was an interrogation ?

I'm truly interested to know, what made him return to the game, especially now that most vets think the changes are extreme.

In my opinion, the recent character changes were excellent. XForce and Thor4 were fantastically powerful, so much so that they were the default characters to use for anyone that had them. I thought the nerf was overdone, but they're still powerful. Middle tier characters all got a health buff, bottom tier 3* characters all got major buffs, except for Squirrel Girl. All 3* characters now have 3 powers.

It was getting hard to look up information on the characters. I was still playing the game, and needed well-organized info, and no-one else had done it, so I spent a day to get things back up to a state of decency.

All the color possibilities are filled in now.

They could still buff things up more, though.
Thor4 Power Surge & Striking Distance -- Add 1 more charged tile to each.
XForce Recovery -- Should be a 2 countdown
Black Panther Defense Grid -- Change to passive that puts out the counter automatically if it doesn't exist. Created shields stronger if team has 8 bluetile.png
BWGS Sniper Rifle -- Remove cost increases.
    BWGS Pistol -- 6 redtile.png Clears 1x1 , 1x2 , 2x2, 2x3, 3x3 block of tiles.
Captain America Sentinel of Liberty -- Cost 12 yellowtile.png If shields placed adjacent to an enemy countdown, their timers increase 2.
Captain Marvel Photonic Blasts -- Level 3 Destroy all Enemy Protect. Level 4 Destroy 5 Enemy Strike. Level 5 Destroy All Enemy Strike.
Daredevil Radar Sense -- Level 4 Also shows all enemy traps. Level 5 Puts traps over 3 Countdowns. When they go off, if Daredevil is in front, he (alone) is immune to immediate damage.
Deadpool Life of the Party -- Decrease damage needed, increase health gained.
Doc Ock Manipulation -- Level 5 -- Also affects Countdowns.
Falcon Inspiration -- Also creates a Strength 1 Friendly special tile. Level 4: Attack tile. Level 5: Strike tile.
    IM40 Recovery -- Variable power cost (6, 8, 10, 12, 14). Remove all power drains.
Loki Trickery -- Level 3 : Do 1000 damage if no enemy Strike or Protect tile. Level 4: 2000 damage. Level 5: 4000 damage.
Psylocke Bewilder -- While the countdown is active, an enemy activating a power with an AP cost will be stunned 2 turns.
Ragnarok Lightning Rod -- An extra 2 charged tiles, on bluetile.pnggreentile.pngredtile.png .
Rocket and Groot I am Groot -- Below 40% health
    Spiderman needs a major rework
Squirrel Girl The Bigger They Are -- Should create Strike tiles based on percentage of target enemy's health. Level 5: Creates 4 Strike Tiles at 2% target enemy's health
Storm Mistress of the Elements -- Bennie: Always gets a team-up with Victory. Increase Health to 8670
Hulk Anger -- Increase Countdowns to 2. Level 5: If more than 3 anger, Hulk immune to Stun. Hulk Smash +1000 damage for each Anger tile.
Punisher Judgement -- 3x3 block is chosen
Colossus Fastball Special -- Fastball Special should have a variable power cost.
Fastball Special - Black X blacktile.png (X = AP Cost of chosen power)
Colossus pitches a teammate into the sky and toward the fray! Choose a power and send that teammate Airborne (inactive, but immune to damage) for 3 turns. Upon landing, they activate the chosen power, then take 274 damage. The enemy target takes 274 damage.
      Level Upgrades
Level 2: 137 to teammate, 411 to the enemy upon landing. Level 3: 55 to teammate, 548 to the enemy upon landing. Level 4: Airborne duration down to 2 turns. Level 5: Airborne duration down to 1 turn.
Max Level: 1 turn Airborne, 174 damage to teammate, 1738 damage to target.

There are various other things that could be fixed, but that's enough to mention now.

Did taking a break from the Forum help you enjoy the game more?

I can imagine that posting "easy" fixes every day can be frustrating when those changes actually take months to be implemented (if ever).
    • I'd say a rewording of Falcon to allow him to target any special tile (looking at you, invisibility) would be welcome.
    • See ? That's all I wanted to know, and Nonce went further than I expected.

      Thank you Nonce !

      And welcome back.

Speaking of rewording... they really should reword the Redwing countdown tile description. It reads "protect this tile for X turns" like every other "friendly" countdown tile does.... except you absolutely DON'T want to protect the Redwing tile. You want to match it ASAP, so that it triggers again on the next turn.

When the developers picked new moderators, for some reason they picked the 2 people that had historically downvoted my posts.

When those new moderators started down-voting my posts because "they had no merit", I asked them to delete any of my posts they though were meritless. They refused, and continued down-voting other posts by me. The post that set them off was my response to MPQ Community Q&A #3 – December - Answer Time!. I pretty much said that there wasn't much substance to the answers. Subsequent video sessions have been much more substantial.

I learned that the Devs were giving covers and other benefits to the brand new moderators. I got a single Invisible Woman cover from IceIX once after months of keeping the forum clean in the Spam days, with pretty much no support at all. I was fired as a moderator by the devs specifically because I made a post of listing all the ways they'd nerfed the game. To their credit, since then, they've nicely balanced buffs and nerfs, after that long stretch of silence, nerfs, and lack of support.

Many months ago, the Developers and their chosen Moderators sent a clear signal they wanted me gone, so I left. The Character Compendium and characters pages greatly suffered from neglect so I came back to fix them. If the Mods and Devs send another signal that they want me gone again, I'll leave again. But I'll likely still be playing the game, since the Devs are gradually enacting many of my suggested changes.

I would love it if he could select the one's he's allowed to overwrite currently. Can't tell you how many times he's picked the fresh cd tile with 3+ turns left rather than the cd that only has 1 turn left. icon_evil.gif
    • Those are all great suggestions! Except for Groot. I think that yellow ability is the most ridiculous thing in the game. If you raised the threshold, they would be almost invincible.

Hey Nonce, I think I remember you mentioning working now for another game were you felt more appreciated. Are you still doing that?

Glad to have you back, Nonce!! icon_e_smile.gif Your character compendium and other work here was invaluable for me when first starting out, and I'm sure will continue to be the same for other newcomers.

I hadn't realized that until you pointed it out just now! That's pretty notable considering all the glaring omissions of combinations that seemed to persist for the first year+ of the game.

With the increased emphasis on passives lately, I now hope we'll start seeing some characters with new combinations of colors on their two active powers.

i know i am not the mods you are referring to but i just wanted to say that i have nothing but respect and admiration for you, Nonce, even more so now that i am a mod since i know how much she male, gay porn, wig selling, pseudo-medicine and other strange spam that comes every day; i can't even begin to imagine how you were able to deal with it all basically by yourself during the Dark silence (and if i remember correctly this was all before the current system that requires post from new users to be mod approved).

i know it's not much but thank you and glad you're back!

They shouldn't just reword it, they should make it an enemy countdown tile. "Redwing is unable to return to battle while this countdown tile exists."

One of those mods isn't too active any more. The other is still up to their trolling ways. If you downvote one of their comments, since they can't downvote your downvote, they'll find another one of your comments, and downvote that one. Hopefully, the mods and devs don't make the same mistakes that chased you away the first time. Glad to have you back.

Good to see you around again. It wasn't just you that had issues with some of the older mods, I did as well. I left the forums for a long time due to similar issues that you describe.

I'm glad you're back. I feel like unless things were drastically different with the other moderator(s?), I don't think this is a fair assessment of what happened at all, assuming (judging from the downvote history) I'm part of that lump. I'm not going to try and have a public pissing match with ya, I just have too much respect for everything you've brought to the forums, but I am going to drop you a PM and hopefully we can talk some things out.

I can promise you though, the last thing I wanted to do is upset you, let alone feel like I didn't want you around. You're without a doubt one of the smartest, if not the smartest, dudes on the forums and you bring a metric ton of information and just stuff to everything you attend you. You're an invaluable asset to the playerbase - like, forget the forums - the entire playerbase. Users like you and NorthernPolarity - the information you guys amass get shared around everywhere. On Line, on Facebook, on the Wiki, on other forums. There is not a single doubt in my mind that you're a positive influence on the community, as a whole.

Flat out, anybody that says otherwise is wrong, and they're the one that needs to step away.

Sorry, but this has been bugging me for ages and I need to say something...

Do you realise that nonce is British slang for a child molester?
Yes I get the non sequitur pun, but its still rather unfortunate and the title of this thread doesn't really help.

There are many definitions of the word -- I, for one, had never heard of that British slang term, and always assumed he was referring to nonce words, and/or creating a pun of "Non sequitur". Good wordplay there.

or, after a quick googling, it really could also have been any of these:
