Who chooses characters for release in MPQ?

I keep seeing the excuse for back-to-back character releases that reads something like this: "It's not D3's fault! Marvel is leaning on them and choosing for them!"

My title is a bit misleading, I don't really care who chooses. What I care about is WHEN people knew these characters were coming.

May 23, 2013: Quicksilver, Scarlett Witch announced for Avengers 2.

July 20, 2013: Avengers 2 dubbed "Age of Ultron" (perhaps Ultron will be in it?)

November 7, 2013: Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil series announced.

--My point is this: we have known for at least a year and a half about all of the characters that were going to be emphasized in the Marvel (media) universe . Sure, you want to time them for the release the best you can. But back-to-back releases a couple of times in the last month were not necessary - Kamala Khan and Squirrel Girl could have waited as 3*'s. Professor X could have waited as a 4*.

Speaking of which, PX (and other mutants) weren't rushed out the door when X-men was being released or re-released on DVD. Bucky hasn't been released, despite two Cap movies. The Guardians weren't rushed out...in fact, we still haven't seen one.

Sure, since most of those releases the schedule has been bumped up (I doubt "Rocket and Groot" would be one character in today's release world). That's fine, lots of character releases are going to happen, and that schedule may be here to stay. I'm actually starting to look forward to characters, despite the hectic release schedule.

But please, no more back-to-back releases! A little looking at the calendar please! It is hard to accept that Marvel alone is both insisting both every single character and exactly WHEN they are to be released.

I hope I don't have to return here and point out when Ant Man or Fantastic 4 were announced.

Interesting question. I imagine Marvel DOES lean pretty heavily on them for certain things. Did you see all the Marvel games that will be bringing in Ultron content for the new movie?

That being said, I'm sure they would like to throw in the people they would like to see, or that fans have requested, as well. Like the way they gave us a vampire for October! And how the Guardians of the Galaxy were so huge, people were eager to play with them. Maybe Marvel has started seeing the potential of this game, and so they are suddenly making pushes for the new content they are releasing. All this is pure speculation, of course.

Ant-Man will probably only involve the one character, but I'm guessing we see him then. If it's a huge hit, we may see Wasp or Yellowjacket or a 2* Hank Pym down the line. That's pretty much what happened with GotG.

I'm guessing MPQ will completely ignore the FF movie, and anything else not released by Marvel studios.

    As will the audience! Zing!

You're right, they do seem to be making more coordinated releases now than they used to. They also seem to be coordinating mostly with Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios as opposed to say, Fox.

As for timing, Kingpin could have been developed any time since the Netflix announcement, but obviously the synergy only works if the hype machine is in synch. So yeah, of course the Kingpin would drop the week before the Netflix show.

And now QS, SW, and Hulkbuster arrive within weeks of the movie release. Marvel wants people to know opening weekend is eminent; not sometime later this year. These three were going to be back-to-back even without SG and KK in the mix.

Did you see the coordinated "Ultron Invades Marvel Games on April 24th" hype? MPQ is hardly the prime mover here. They are falling in line.

In the spoiler thread there are some characters that appear ready to go, but haven't dropped. So, it could definately be worse.

This has nothing to do with those being FOX movies and not Marvel Studios. Nope, nope, nope, nope.

All joking aside, they could have timed Quicksilver much better, especially with a Lazy Cap event and a Mystique event back to back. I mean come on. Swap Mystique for QS, and go KK, KP, MQ, QS, LCap, Ultron. How hard would that have been? And your player base would hate you that much less right now. "Ha ha, yea 2 in a row is rough, I feel you guys, OH NO WAIT 3 IN A ROW, WAAAAAT?!?" No excuse for this.

I feel for them (kinda) on the 4*s since they have a weird 1 a month schedule along with a new character every 2 weeks schedule. Also on the media deadlines and such and wanting Kingpin in for the release of Daredevil, but seriously, manage your schedule better.
