Sentry and his synergistic abilities.
I want to head away from all the threads of complaint so it got me thinking.
First, i love sentry as a marvel character love everything about him, the void inside him and him dealing with all his mental issues as well as trying to do the right thing (most of the time)
Unfortunately i was on an extended break when they released him so i didn't get to play him in his prime. ANYWAY enough rambling.
I made this thread to discuss how well all of sentry's abilities complement each other, throwing down World Rupture and then playing Supernova so you don't have to match away one of your countdowns, its a subtle interaction but it can make a big difference.
Then of course both World rupture and Supernova being AoE abilites his sacrifice buffs them to insane amounts of damage, especially World Rupture.
Yeah maybe his Green is a bit slow and people really dont like him as a whole anymore, but he was designed so damn well.
The Punisher is another example of this, his strike tiles buff up his Molotov and then the attack Molotov produces, they all just work very well together.

I love sentry he is also my fav character. Still make me feel like he is marvel's superman. But I want to see a nick fury(demolition) paired with world rupture. It seems like a minefield just waiting for any character to set it off. XD0

Kingpin is very self synergistic. Purple into yellow with a side of 12 black does something stupid like 18,000 damage over 3 turns.0

They nailed the essence of who she is when they designed Mystique. Infiltration is her subtly manipulating things to give herself an advantage. Shapeshift knocks out an enemy for a couple turns while she proceeds to take their place. While undercover she steals ap for her team, not a lot, just enough to remain undetected. Then finally comes her masterstroke. I like how it's much more damaging if she avoided getting her cover blown before springing it.
It's a well-designed character if you can tell who it is just by seeing what the abilities are.0 -
There are quite a few heroes who can self synergise... doesn't necessarily make them all that good (Sentry is pretty bad post nerf unfortunately) but they exist.... some examples
Blade makes strike tiles, then a couple of massive attack tiles (which are stronger if strikes are out) which then benefit from his strike tiles every time they fire
Falcon can make protect tiles then start buffing their Strength up
Prof X makes special tiles then starts buffing their strength up
OBW can passively steal the colours needed for her other 2 abilities on matches of said colours.
Thor's Red->Yellow->Green feeding abilities to accelerate firing off his AoE.
IM40s recharge giving his other 2 colours (shame the abilities he's fueling suck )
GSBW using her purple to make green AP for her sniper rifle
MN Mags purple feeding his red/blue
4Thor making charge tiles on the colours she needs to fire off more abilities
and so on.....
Characters will, however, often (but not always) pay for their internal synergy by having their abillities be a bit less impressive than a non-self synergising hero. Hence their abilities that accelerate AP or buff tiles are often used by ppl to fuel/buff someone else's abilities rather than their own. The ones who don't pay a price for their self synergy are commonly considered OP and eventually nerfed (hello Sentry and Xforce!)0 -
Got this off a friend who loves Sentry. Haven't tried it out yet as I am rebuilding my own Sentry.
Use Sentry with Cpt. Marvel and Kamala / Elektra.
The focus should be on his Supernova as his green is costlier and only takes one Juggernaut TU/Luke Cage defense tile to be made almost completely useless (lest you got his strike tile out already)
That said, with Cpt Marvel and Elektra:
Gain enough red and black ap (Carol speeds this up spectacularly) and put out Elektra's shadow step followed by supernova.
Shadow step will also burst and deal damage when supernova activates while Elektra avoids taking damage from supernova.
Carol will regenerate red and black AP again from the damage of your own supernova to reuse this combo (or to use her stun if you wish).
The second supernova should deal minimal damage to your team as there would be very few red tiles by then.
Cpt Marvel and Kamala:
This is an interesting combo. Carol plays the same role as a red and black generator. She gets to use her black stun in this case, which is helpful.
Kamala is there to minimise damage done to the team with her passive (especially with sentry's sacrifice and supernova) and goes a way to help sentry put out WR if you're feeling nostalgic or AOE the enemy team herself.
I'm too lazy to calculate how much net self-damage is taken for the team and Sentry when Kamala's heal goes off, but it should be reduced by about 50% from the time of after sacrifice, 1st supernova and 2nd supernova.
There're a load of naysayers who denounce Sentry due to self harm. But that's his role and he can be deadly for a couple matches if you're looking to have fun. Just my friend's two cents worth which I enjoyed and will try when my team is up.0 -

I'll keep this in mind. I hate mindlessly following the pack and any new synergies to combat the Dev team unfuning the place up are a welcome change of pace.0
