Critical tile boost as a reward

I wish they would get rid of it since I never ever use the damn thing. I used it when I could make critical tiles reliably, but now that they keep taking powers away from us, I have had a stockpile of 30 critical tile boosts for over 3 months. I would much rather get all +1 or just 250 iso.

  • In the old days it was +damage to H.A.M.M.E.R. troops. It was arguably less useful, but we're splitting hairs. I think it's just there to make you appreciate that your 20 ISO-8 booby prize actually could be worse.

    I think I would rather have the 20 iso booby prize...at least I would get to use it.

    I burn them off every so often when PvP climbing, especially if I'm using someone like LThor or Doom that has some crit generation ability. Worst that happens is they do nothing, best case is it accelerates the biggest match damage available.

    I use to use them for this, but now in the days of TU's where you have to choose between "might do an extra 1,000 damage" for crit tile boost and "Might do an extra 1,000 damage" for, say, a Thor redflag.png team up, the TU is clearly the better choice. Crit tile and match damage boosts are basically useless now. I mean, they were before, but even more so now. The only one with any value at all is + blacktile.png / greentile.png damage boost because Doom/MQ/Hulk/KK/GSBW all make black and green tiles.
  • I would just be happy if they let us sell back boosts for even a tiny bit of ISO. I rarely ever use boost of any kind unless I absolutely need them and even then its typically the AP boosting ones and not the damage ones. let us sell them back for 50 or even 25% of what it would cost to buy them.
  • Now that we can leave the TU/Boosts blank and it will add TUs for me, I just play until I realize i'm almost out of TUs, then i'll switch to boosts i've been holding for a while and spam my alliance for "help" and then switch back. Balances out nicely, and I can take my mind off that step. (Although dropping a bunch of boosts on a node of 3 lvl 20 goons makes me groan when I forget to turn it off!)

    I still use my damage boosts. Mostly its in PVE to knock over a big, fat Hood without bringing extra AP to the party for him to steal if a board went bad.

    You argument is slightly flawed because you are choosing between doing 1K with a Thor team up *one time* versus getting 1k extra damage on each crit match - which can - and often does - happen more than one time in a match... especially if you are bring the characters who can change tile color or move tiles.

    The blue power for Professor X is in this same category, I think. If you are pro-blue for pX that seems like being a vote in favor of the critical tile boost. If you are anti-blue then these boosts definitely seem like a waste of a prize.

    Also worth noting, there are characters that just drop critical tiles. Most aren't great, and the power is expensive, but it is possible to short-circuit the whole "need to match-5 first" problem.
  • They also can, and frequently do, never happen in a match. That's why the TU is better IMO.

    I used to use those w/Cmag, but it's always useful, and now if you love quicksilver icon_lol.gif , you can use them.

  • I'd rather have 3 critical boosts instead of 20 worthless ISO. If you've got 30 of them, use 3 at a time in a match. Just USE them.

    Maybe if we could sell them back to MPQ for the price they charge us to buy them. Or create some kind of boost 'rollover' or 'conversion' plan where they can become a different kind of boost once we get 30 of them.

    I said I use them sometimes, but the number I have in reserve hasn't dropped below 20 since the cMags nerf....
  • Meh. I rarely use any boosts and usually just end up with 3 random teamups that may or may not be useful. I'd rather use the time spent picking them out scaling PvP.

    They need to change it from a boost, to a team up. Place a 20% extra damage critical tile onto the board in any basic color location.
