What point gap is necessary in PVP to get a 50 point match?

Assume I have point value X and my opponent has point value X + Y

What value must Y be for the match to be worth 50 points?

Is it constant?

Don't know the formula, but I (954) won 45 points off of someone with 1337( icon_e_ugeek.gif ), and then 41 points off someone with 1251. So, the gap has to be around 400 points. I think the only variables you need to check for are top 5 X's and C's icon_e_wink.gif

I received 42 points from a match while my score was 952 and my target's score was 1237. With enough datapoints we can probably figure out the formula (assuming someone like polarity or phaserhawk hasn't done this already).

    I think it's around:

Points Earned = [(Opponents Score - Your Score) / 20 ] + 25. Brackets just for ease of reading.

We were going to gather a bunch of data points, to figure this out, but then we got lazy.
  • It's a lot more than a 400 point difference because at a 400 difference your chance to win is around 91% and ELO is meant to have no net change in point if points are equal, so you get 5 * 0.91 - 45 * 0.09 = 0 here (not quite exactly 0 due to rounding issues).

You can play around with the calculator here: http://bzstats.strayer.de/bzinfo/elo/?lang=en. As % approaches 0% you'd get 50 points for winning, depending on how MPQ chose to round things versus how the calculator does, but you got to be pretty close to 0% chance to win to get 50 points.

    Now I'm confused phantron,

what do point totals have to do with % chance of victory?

I see pvp opponents with 500 points running feature+Xavier+4*thor, and I see pvp opponents running the same team with 1200+ points.

Surely the chance of victory against identical teams is the same.

Are you talking about the devs internal rating system (where each character attribute has an assigned point value so that characters can be normalized and compared via a single number?

    Absolutely nothing. Consider yourself phantroned™

The ELO formula computes your chance of winning solely based on yours and your opponent's rating, and you get more points the lower your computed chance of winning is. The point value is assigned such that if this computed chance is correct there would be no net change to both player's score after you played enough games. For example, suppose the formula computes your chance of winning is 10%. You'd expect to get 45 points on a win because on average, you'd lose 9 out of 10 games and lose 9*5 = 45 points and get +45 points back on the game you do win. For points to hit 50, even rounded up, your computed chance of winning has to be close to 0%.

Note that this computed chance has nothing to do with how the game is actually played. As you pointed out two guys running the same team with different points obviously has the same chance of winning when you play them, but the formula doesn't care about that.
