Giving with one hand and taking with the other

It's great that in R75 (whenever that happens) will give us reduced ISO costs, but in the meantime, thanks to the new matchmaking, lightning rounds are no longer the source of quick easy ISO that they used to be. Unless the ISO reduction is dramatic, the net result is probably going to be that it's going to take even longer to level characters that it did before both of these changes.

I get why PvP has to be what it is now, but since lightning rounds are more like a bonus, and new players don't need tons of ISO anyway, can't we just revert lightning rounds back to the free-for-all they used to be, instead of putting up a wall of 249s right from the start?

lightning rounds = jump in at start, farm seed teams to 185 (hopefully), leave.

10 to 15 minutes to get the most amount of iso for the time/effort. anyone grinding lightning rounds now is a glutton for punishment or already has a roster so topped out theyve got nothing better to do. more power to them.

    Exactly Simon.

Positive side : LRs are not the dumb grinding they used to be (against seeds and noobs), but as there are more efforts, the rewards should be better, and progression rewards updated.

I doubt 500 points can be reached from now on.

While this does work with varying success...it's still a drastic reduction of ISO for those of use who would regularly farm to the old requirements for top 50 or better. You miss out on a LOT of standard tokens and only get about half the ISO from battles per LR.

This only top 50 though...so I guess it's a just impacting a tiny fraction of the player base. Even so, my person ISO gain has taken a nose dive since I can't divert enough resources to sustain strong LR finishes anymore.

i am in complete agreement with you, my original comment was meant to state that mmr with lighting rounds now makes them impractical to farm unless you have a roster so strong and deep that you can sustain for an hour and half without adversely impacting pve or pvp play. your time and health packs are better spent elsewhere.

im imagining that its easier for 1/2* players to grind lightning rounds now with mmr the way it is (at least easier than it was for me when i was at that stage) and maybe thats intended since there are so many 2* cover drops.

Even with a big roster, you can't play for one hour and a half (unless you only play the LRs between Tuesdays and Thursdays). You are dry of health packs pretty fast. And playing some characters is irrelevant because they are slow and you will be attacked left and right.

It's all around XF/Cmag/Loki/Patch/Ldaken/Hood/IF... Those who do something quick.

I also don't get this change at all.

The low end rosters need a little ISO, so battle seed teams, finish : level to 94.
The high end rosters need a LOT of ISO, so battle more teams...except you can't now.

I generally run nothing but seed teams and finish anyway, but the changes have made that a certainty now: haven't played a non-seed LR match in two weeks. If I missed the beginning of event before it was "oh well, harder but I can still run it a bit". Now it's "oh well, skip event".

Like almost everything that has happened over the last few weeks I think it is too soon to know.
The iso flow has been nerfed by the MMR change that is certain.
Once we know the change to max characters we will know how bad it has been nerfed.
The only way I could keep up with the iso needed to max new characters was LR's.
I am only getting about 60% of what I got before so if costs to max the characters goes down 60% then it will be a neutral change.
If it is anything else this will be either a nerf or a buff.
Also like many of the changes it has significantly changed the way I play another kind of event.
This really feels like it will be a brand new game after R75 is released in three weeks.

I agree. "Lightning Rounds" aren't very fast anymore.
  • Personally I am enjoying the MMR for the lightning rounds. Hop in at the beginning, ride the seed teams to 171 or 185 then come back at the final 15 minutes. If I got hit for -80, stop playing. If it is -30, beat 2 to 4 teams for heroic tokens. I have earned more tokens (and I still have 3 more events to play) than in any LR since the anniversary 20 person brackets.

I have suggested it before, they should have double iso for the LR every week to help us generate a little more
  • No seed teams in LRs means I'm not going to be playing them. I just got a1000 ISO out of them and left. Not going to use my health packs on them.

    Thanks,

    James

Lightning Rounds were all over the board for me today. In one I got more than 200 points from seeds and in another I only got one seed team than bam right into full 166s.

You need to join exactly when the event starts, you'll get all the seed teams then.

Of all the changes, the nerf on Lrs is the one that impacted me the most.. I cant play them without health packs and going non boosted in a mirror match with a 249/249/249 team is a 50/50 toss.. What bothers me the most is that it seems that the opponent pool has been widely dwindled.. Im seeing only 25-50 ppl at most by rounds.. You cant get out of a game unscathed cause the longer the game is dragging the more likely ai will get an insane cascade.. I just hope that phasing out xf as the ultimate weapon will balance things out and let big rosters rocking the leaderboard.. Anyway they have killed one of the main reasons i kept playing this game.. Fielding all kind of teams was fun in Lrs.. Now Its grindy as hell.. Pvp/pve/Lrs/sim are all demanding for the vets to go with their A team to ensure a win.. Way to promote diversity..

Thanks for the heads up, much appreciated.

It is also a product of how many people join. Last night, I joined at 8:02 and got 0 seed teams. This morning I joined at 8:11 and got 9 seeds and a top50 with less than 200 points.

I always try to join at :00 because that almost always generates 8-10 seeds, but I will always check even if I am running late. If there are at least 3 seeds, you can get the iso bonus at 100 with small effort. If there are no seeds, I tend to wait 2 hours for the next one, as the effort/reward equation is out of balance.

I am in agreement that the revised Lightning Rounds aren't much fun. The current interpretation of "lightning" makes me wonder if they asked Quicksilver to help out with the reworking... hmm...
