How do the points work in PvE?

Hello all. I am only 102 days into this great game but I am having trouble understanding how the points work. I have read the main guide but do not understand what is happening as of the time of this writing. I am referring to the new Prodigal Sun event (Quicksilver reward) specifically with the Maggia Assault sub event. My slice started at noon eastern standard time, I cranked out all nodes, including essential, and ended up with only 2810. It is less than two and a half hours after my slice started and the person in first place has over 7100 being followed by a guy in 2nd place with 5206.

All of my nodes need 6+ hours before they are at full points and if I went through now and beat them all I would end up somewhere in the top 5 and over 5k. I was under the impression that you should not grind the nodes to 0 and let them fully refresh/ recharge to maximize points. I you grind to 0 in the first few hours of the event you will not have many points to work with in case players start jumping ahead of you from my understanding. Should I be regrinding every 3 hours or something? Am I misinterpreting the meaning of refresh? Some basic breakdown of the dynamics would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

you can grind the nodes up to 6 times for diminishing points from the outset, but each pass adds 8 hours to the full refresh. to score optimum points, you would let each node fully refresh and clear at 8 hours intervals and when the sub end was within 8 hours of closing, you would grind 6 times as the refresh timer would have no meaning when the sub closes. many people grind at the outset due to refreshes they wont be able to hit, some grind to avoid scaling, some grind to get progression awards faster and some grind because they dont know any better.

in short the leader board on day one matters little. if you can hit your nodes and make clears optimally and then grind at the end before the sub closes, you will climb the board. these jackrabbit starters will be gimping their total available points and you should pass them. tortoise and the hare. hope this helps.

That is the best possible explanation I could have hoped for and clears up my confusion. Thank you for your reply.

That is a great explanation for pve. Don't worry about the guide that was written before about it because it's outdated.

I'd also like to suggest that even though waiting 8 hours is optimal for points, clear them in a way so that you know you'll be available to play them again when they fully refresh. If you're going to bed and sleep for roughly 8 hours and there's little time left, clear them before going to bed and when you wake up they will be almost refreshed again. I don't think there's a huge point difference in the last 2 hours of a refresh. I typically score in the top 50 when im trying hard and top 200 if I'm just casually doing it.

this. you never want it to sit there on maxed points for an extended period. ever. but you want the timer as low as life allows. once it hits less than an hr I just hit what I can when I can because most of the pts already reloaded.

Thanks for the replies guys. Thanks to the tips, especially not paying too close attention to the outdated guide, I have a method that works well for me now. So much so that I finished in 5th place for the Prodigal Sun event and earned all 3 QS covers.
