What's going on with point indicators?

I know that, because both players scores are always changing, the points you get for a game may vary from the totals displayed in the queue.

Used to be, the variation was rather slight and I could estimate how much I'd receive so long as I played shortly after queuing the target. As of late, when I queue a target and Attack IMMEDIATELY after queuing, I have no idea what I'll score. The indicator will say 17 and I'll get 41. It might read 25 and award me 14. The most extreme case was when I queued a 41 point game, attacked and received 13 points.

And this isn't happening some. I haven't played a match in the last 2 events where the score I received matched what the queue said. Sometimes it's been within a believable range, but not one single precise match.
