What is shield hopping and being a merc.

I wanted to know what people meant when they say they shield hop and what they mean when they leave there alliance to become a merc.

    Merc = taking your points to another alliance to help them/you get a better reward. your season/event points don't stay with the alliance you were with when you earned them, they go with you wherever you go. Your old alliance then has to scramble to find someone to fill your spot.

    Shield hop = when a shield expires or you break it and play a couple matches before using another shield, theoretically before anyone can hit you back and cause you to lose points on defense.
