pvp mismatches

this is how pvp works (or doesn't) for me.
1. beat up on some level 1-20 teams for a couple hundred points.
2. hit a brick wall of teams that are level 100 -280.
3. do nothing and get beat on for the remainder of the event.
my team is mostly 2 star. got a few characters at level 94, but nothing higher than that. how am i supposed to compete with teams of 2-3 level 100/200+ characters?
i'm not suggesting that for the entirety of the event i'm served low level teams to beat on. i'd be ok with comparable level teams of maxed 2 star characters.
is there any way of bringing down the level of teams i'm up against? cause the way this is going is getting kinda stupid and pointless.

as I was entering 2* land with characters approaching 94 I always thought the same thing. many pvps I would take down the 12-15 seed teams with levels all below 20 then it would jump to 94s - nothing between. one issue is all they have to work with for real opponents is the players that are actually in the slice group you're in and with how quickly you can get a team to 94, my guess is most players in the slice have at least that. However, I know with the right ** team (i.e. ares/obw) at 94 and spec'ed right you can take down teams well into the 100s. add boosts and you can take down at least up to 140 or so, but it can also go wrong the higher you attempt. it took me quite a while to get it into my head that playing teams leveled above my own was ok, even if I lose. 2 things helped me tremendously figure some things out - 2 gauntlets ago I scratched and clawed my way up for a deadpool purple. in the gauntlet you start hitting teams over your level about 1/3 of the way through and it gets crazy towards the end. the other thing is figuring out the ddq big enchilada with only my ** roster. that starts with level 99 goons and ends up with a character team of **** and *** guys at 134 or so. with some trial and error (and lots of learning on these forums) I've pretty much figured it out and that has helped me a great deal in all other aspects of the game. I was where you are about 1 or 1-1/2 seasons ago. I'm now pushing a team of *** characters up for pvp play and have scored 500s in my last 3-4 events. be patient - the game's match making analysis is something everyone dislikes and has to overcome at some point and there are 3 main 'walls' in the pvp game that I have seen - the maxed ares/obw wall, the 166 wall and what was the xf/4hor wall, now xf/other wall. this is the priority order I would use in leveling my ** guys: ares (or thor if you have great thor covers and no ares, but ares is better), obw, thor, storm, magneto, daken (can be moved ahead of storm if you don't have storm/mags well covered), wolverine. optional, but sometimes useful) characters include torch, capt America, hawkeye, capt marvel. hope this helps - I tend to ramble some.0
