Always wondered what is the point of lighting round shields

I mean besides getting the easy ISO whats the point in grinding on these, the odds of getting major covers are the same as others. Last few weeks i seen tons of people using shields in lighting rounds. Seems sort of waste of HP (yea its only 75) but still a waste

To avoid the carnage of the last 10 min if you started grinding from the start

yea but you only earn a cover what will probally be a 2 star the odds of drawing a 3 star are no better, that is mostly what i was asking. You dont even earn covers or anything else like that, so whats the big deal in being 1 in these things
  • Back in the day, the top finishers in a LR got the cover of that LR. For this reason certain LRs were a mess in the last 10 minutes (Hood). Sheilds have the same function in LRs as they do in regular PvP, stop attack and preserve placement. It's just that now placement is largely irrelevant in LRs since it only hands out tokens.
  • Ah the good old days...when a first place finish in a LR would earn you 3 covers for the featured character. And yes those hood LRs used to be crazy. icon_eek.gif

Lighting rounds are super fun! easy iso and a better token draw. But honestly its about learning how to play pvp well! Almost no one really shields in LR, so when and how you snipe has a big effect on the placements. In the last 20min, you will be matched up against other people in your top 10 and how you snipe them is super fun. For the best placement results, I would really recommend playing your evening Lighting rounds. Not as crowded

funny thing is i ask this cause the last 5 or so ones i did join i did see the top person using shields and i was like, man they got tons of Hp to waste icon_e_smile.gif
  • Someone people don't want to play for the full 1 hour however many minutes.

You spend 45 minutes getting 400+ pts, quick shield and get something out of it. It's not cost effective at all, but I've done it before. Some people would rather get out of work and drive home rather than stay and play icon_mrgreen.gif

it's a calculated gamble like every other aspect of how you spend your HP. Odds are twice as good if you come out on top. Isn't it only 25 HP for the smallest shield? I forget. I did it once, and I got an extra 250 iso in return...lol. I'd maybe try it again, but it would be a waste of HP to do it all the time. Sometimes I like rolling the dice andgamblign with my HP. I'll buy sale event tokens on very rare occasions for fun too. Probably sitting at 15% gold covers from them...but hey who doesn't like a good game of "spin the wheel, make me rich"?

The real question isn't why do people shield, but why they go for placement in LRs in the first place.

Because a couple LR tokens is better than a standard token. And the extra ISO from battles. LR are for ISO. And for fun of placing somewhere and using charecters you may not normally use that are boosted.

Oh man...that was a waste of HP.... I think I was thinking 75HP for a LR token seemed like a hot ticket.

Sure, but unless you're...top 10? the 25-50 2 heroics are better than the single LR token. And LR tokens are basically not-as-good DDQ tokens

No I agree 2 single heroics are better than one LR. I play them for fun and I play to get top 1 or top 4 at least to make it worth my while and I obviously am having fun or have nothing else to do in game ATM. If I'm a bit into the LR and things aren't going my way and it looks like I wont be top 10 I'll just stop playing and late fate decide. I also only pick the odd LR to grind out. If I was trying to hit all of them I'd just grind to 250 and stop I think.
