Daken required for Daken, pardon my rant

Good Morning, all

I'm a day 121 2*--> 3* transitioner here. I have placed in the top 10 in every event I've ever played in, some top 5s, some 1st places. I am slowly but surely gaining ISO-8, truckin' along with HP, in addition to the small amount I've purchased, because I like to collect all the covers, so I'd rather support the devs by buying HP for roster slots than have to delete a character. I'm with the Alliance Kick Azz, and can't complain about much.

However, I will complain about this. Like I said, I'm a collector. I have 33 of the 35 3* characters. One I'm missing is Daken. He's been vaulted a long time, and I'm a newer player, so he has been tough to come across. So, when I saw he was a reward for the Gauntlet, which I have, historically, done well at, I was psyched.

Daken is the reward for the sub that requires Daken. Similar to DPDQ, which I love, however, this is NOT how the gauntlet has historically been structured.

Is anyone else in the same boat? What is everyone's opinion on the matter? Am I crazy, or is this a little unfair, like moving the goalposts to make it even harder to get all the characters?

Ok, my semi-rant is over, just needed to vent.

It was how it worked the first time the Gauntlet ran, but that was later changed. Sorry to see it go back to a "rich get richer" approach. It's not like it's easy to reach that Squirrel Girl cover to begin with, so it requires a lot of dedication.

It's happend to me in the past as well on a Gauntlet (something like 3* storm requires storm to win). There's nothing you can do, really. It will get better

You still have a chance to win a Daken cover from Hotshot, which ends in about 2 days. Since the Gauntlet ends in 4 days, you still have plenty of time to earn at least 1 cover from PVP to get the one from PVE.

Just part of the game.

I'm desperate for ISO but can't get it out of today's Deadpool Daily since I don't have Black Panther. 159 Days of MPQ and I have not seen a single Black Panther Cover. It is what it is.

You'll get one in about a month though, he is the daily reward on day 195.
....I suppose that means you may miss the third turn for Panther...

so you need daken to get daken but you dont need squirrel girl to get squirrel girl or blade to get blade. who the hell thought that up?

the last two gauntlets you could get part two essential in part three and go back and finish it, and then the award for part two was the final essential for part three. kind of odd but at least there was a chance to get both without having either to start with. this is really a **** d3. id like to hear an answer as to the logic of this change. and "just go get it in PvP" is an answer for only 100 of 500 people, so its not really an answer at all. pve is where you get covers without having to get them in pvp for a large majority of the player base.

really bad change.

Technically you need all three boosted characters to get Blade, and Blade will (most likely) be the Essential character in the next PvE. It's also not out of line that players without any essential characters can get one three-star cover (though who many will put in the effort for Squirrel Girl is another matter entirely).

As has been mentioned it's not so much a change as it is a reversion to previous policy. I do feel bad for the guys who want their first Daken, and this was a bad change, but it is still nothing new.

if it was one way before then they changed it, there had to be some logic for the change. that they now have changed it back to the way it was originally also would then require some logic, but i certainly cant see it. pve players had the opportunity to get rag in the last pve (or have played the game for 60 days and gotten one with the daily resupply reward), i dont think anyone has a problem problem there. but requiring one to get one (daken to get daken, especially with him just coming out of the vault), but not the other one (squirrel girl to get squirrel girl) makes no sense at all.

i think someone just screwed the pooch and got the ordering wrong. i agree with op 100%. cmon d3, give an answer.

I logged in to complain about this exact same thing. I think I'm only missing two 3* characters at this point... spidey and Ldaken. I wasted time grinding for Daken, only to find he was locked... I understand that's the way things work in the daily, but I thought PVE was different. Really irritated that I wasted my playing time.

This. If you're consistently in the top 10 for PVP events, you'll be set up with a couple Daken covers from Hot Shot with a couple days to spare to finish out the rest of the Gauntlet.

I agree that it's a bizarre set up, though.

This is annoying.

In the very first gauntlet, Black panther was necessary to get the black panther reward. And people complained about it a lot. I think the devs have even mentioned this as a problem that they were aware of and intended to avoid in the future.

And in each of the last 3 gauntlets, the alpine tactics cover has been available using the other 2 featured characters. Seems kind of stupid for demiurge to go back now (unless the intent is for gauntlet to be like the daily quest, available to build 3 characters up after acquisition, but if that's the case, they should say so expressly). And it's almost worse if this is just an oversight. Devs shouldn't overlook problems that have already been identified and solved.

It does suck when you hit an obstacle like this, where hard work isn't enough to reach your goal.

But to be honest I think this is part of the 'pay-to-win' side of this game. I think the reasoning is that the die-hard players will come up against this situation and try to buy their way out by buying ten-packs and gambling for a Daken cover. I'm sure the developers sales stats track sales spikes and the situations that cause them.

Those of us who don't pay-to-win just have to let these things go once in a while. I don't think reason and fairness will change the situation if this is where the profits are to be found.

All we can do is play on and wait for the next one.

My best advice to the OP, as a fellow collector of all characters in the game, is to SAVE YOUR STANDARD AND HEROIC TOKENS. Sooner or later, Ldaken will be introduced back to the pool. The pool changes each season (3 1/2 weeks or so); if you're patient you WILL get to unlock Ldaken some time this year. W/ the way D3 is seeking to de-emphasize 4* characters and put the spotlight back on 3* land, the folks in jail right now will be making a jail break sooner or later. Once Ldaken is added back to the pool, you can try your luck w/ the tokens.

I currently have 600 standard tokens, and 25 heroic tokens saved up. With a lot of luck and strong pushes in this season's pve/pvp events, I managed to obtain almost every cover (both character and color aside from Dino green) in the game (yes, including the elusive rag blue). When Dino joins the pool, i'll start opening tokens again.

Daken was added to the tokens at the start of this season, so if it's him you want, open away!

I'm OK with the DDQ "you have to have the cover to win the cover" for later transitioners, but it really sucks when the cover you have to have is one that has been vaulted for a while. At least give the newer players a chance at that cover before you make it essential.

Luckily I miraculously pulled out a top 100 finish this PvP to nab a and can finish the 2nd gauntlet to get the reward, but come on.

like you i managed to get my first daken in the pvp just ended and then cleared the gauntlet stage to get the second one. i can now begin working him up through ddq having missed his first go round.

this was still total **** and needs to be fixed going forward. daken was the final 3* i needed (he was vaulted just as i started playing) and he is a really valuable farming character so i looked forward to him coming out of the vault. instead when he comes out of the vault along with gsbw, she is the one immediately put into pve and then rag comes around with his update before they finally get to offering daken. then they pull this garbage of making you have him to get him in a PVP first!!! i really cant believe they would stoop to withholding such a strong character from so many people like this. only 100 of every 500 are going to get him in PVP and now theyre shut out for who knows how long for another try for him which means no ddq for them as well on the next go round.

this has ruined this gauntlet for me and i was really looking forward to it. i already have 5 blade green and i really dont want to push for stupid squirrel girl in the final stage so i think im done for the next two days until we get to fire up the chase the new character **** in the next pve. PLEASE DONT DO THIS AGAIN WITH GAUNTLET D3. its really really dumb.

I'd be that newer player who doesn't have one. spent a good chunk of hp on shield hopping only to get beat down in the last minutes because I broke at the end because I was going to end up 1-2 matches short of pts. Granted I was only running ares obw, but I already vented in the hot shot thread. Anyways, the gauntlet setup sucked. Last time you could scratch and claw your way up the third sub to get the second essential in the second sub (I did that there - punisher I think) and finish the second. I really dislike this setup, like others have said, especially for a highly valued character who's been vaulted ever since I started playing. I have a few ddq tokens saved up for his week that I will definitely open with hopes of landing him. A couple of first timer shield hopping mistakes cost me 2 daken covers basically with the second gauntlet complete other than the daken essentials.

I tried to get Daken during the pvp as well but fell short as usual. Finished 115. It seems I'm always just outside of top 100. This one hurt Just a but more since I needed daken for the pve which sucks
