Why are shields SO broken?

I was in 4th place on the "Army of One" mission with 648 points. First place was at 702.... My shield was about to end within a few minutes so I figured I'd attack a few people and re-shield until closer to the end of the tournament... I'd only been attacked once or twice while shielded.. Not a big deal, right? Wrong...

In the time it took me to win one match (less then 2 minutes) I was attacked over 10 times, lost 250+ points and now am sitting barely at rank 15... Dev's... What's going on? I waste a bunch of time and HP (and some $) trying to secure a good location and have it all thrown away within minutes. Sorry if this is a rant post, but I've been with this game since early December and this was the most frustrating thing I've ran into.

  • I'm also very confused by this. If I stay shielded for long periods of time, I'll be attacked maybe 2-3 times? (this is over like 15 hours and not just including the odd hours)

If I unshield to grind, all of a sudden I am attacked many times.

It's as if shielding makes me invisible to people?

Shield makes you less seen, but not invisible at current state.
If youre inactive, i think there is also less chance of you getting attacked, of course a bit more than shielded.

When you play, you are quite visible.

Currently this PVP system can be considered broken.

That's exactly what I was thinking.. and not only does unshielding make us attackable again.. it makes it so EVERYONE attacks you. I mean, come on.. 10+ people attacked me in under 2 minutes? And it continued for a while AFTER I re-shielded and lost 250+ points. It's so disheartning to put a lot of effort into climbing the ladder to be smacked off of it and kicked a few times while rolling around on the ground. I guess it's time for me to take a break from this game. I'm glad I didn't make any large purchases to support the Dev's after the smack down I received. I'm sure it'll be "fixed" soonish if enough of us complain about it, but in this current situation I'm not setting foot in a PVP area again and that's the main point of this game right now.
  • If you're shielded it generally means your rating is high relative to your team's difficulty, and until the skip tax is implemented you can bet on people able to find those high point value teams very quickly.

If shields worked the way you are using them then people would start crying that this game is P2P. Of course when you unshield you're going to get slammed. I assume that this was how it was meant to be from the beginning but maybe the devs didn't implement it properly.
  • shields do currently work like this, your only hope is to setup>unshield>kill>shield your way up the tree. If shields didn't make you invisible, you'd see scores like you did last week where you could attack shielded 2600pt bagman teams until bored of it.
  • Right now I got 527 ppts... why can people with 153 target me? And I can not even find a match of 30 pts worth...
  • The PVP system does seem broken. My main issue is that in the time it takes me to complete a battle (4-6 turns) I can, and have, lost 4-5 battles. This seems like a horrible aspect of PVP. I think that you should only be able to be attacked by one person at a time. Would still lose more points if you were attacking for 20 and being attacked by someone gunning for 50. I really wish the devs would work on the system and maintain communication with us while they did so.
  • I don't even understand how people so much lower than me can find me when I can't find a match worth more than 15 points all day.

The brackets I've been in for the DC tournament and now this Punisher one have been won with scores barely over 800. I don't know if I've been in weak brackets or not, but it seems like no one is making any progress at all. So at least you're not alone. Tournies are frustrating for everyone right now.

I believe the 2-3 attacks you receive are retaliations from previous fights, otherwise you're not showing up for random players to initiate a challenge to while shielded. The moment you unshield you become vulnerable to random attacks from not only the people you previously beat but you'll show up as possible pick for the for anyone looking for a good scoring fight.
  • I actually have had a similar experience without shielding. I would play for about an hour and get up to 600 and suddenly be hit by 10 people all at the same time and drop back to 450. Then slowly climb back up to 600 with no attacks and suddenly get hit by a giant crowd of people again as I approached 600. I also wasn't getting the "You were attacked" screen correctly a good bit of the time (my score would drop for no reason and then the screen would come up 10 minutes later).

I don't know if this is what actually was going on, but it sure felt like the game was saying "You will not get above 600 points, period."
