You are nerfing the only reason I buy CP's! Please don't

Now that I've paid some dues and earned a spot in a high level alliance, I have no need to buy CP's with the exception of TGoT! I won't be able to compete for a copy of her until I'm likely not to need her anymore. She was the first 4 star character I ever opened and my search to complete her color palet has led to a collection of 36 roster slots, 4 Electras, 1 Nick Fury, 2 Starlords, 3 IW (tossing the first copy due to her uselessness and roster wall) an X-Force on day 10 which I sold because I was stupid and 4 TGOT (2 blue/2 yellow). Considering the fact that I cannot earn a 4 star, you figure out how much money I have spent on this quest for a top tier character!! This is the worst I have ever felt about spending money, let alone a mobile game. Half of me wants to simply quit... I have never and likely never will SMITE the first enemy after hundreds of dollars spent for that joy alone. 87 days of work and cash flushed!!!!

A heartbroken and disillusioned,

Yeah, I started to notice the game get harder and joined this forum. I've since realized my mistake and I have stopped her leveling at 106. I've struggled for a long time to raise a portion of my substantial roster and I'm just about back to fully competitive in PVE. I have 5 fully covered and well leveled 2 stars, the 4 stars I mentioned and the rest are 3 stars. As I mentioned I'm in a top (50 PvE) alliance and 3 star covers are now (with hard work from us all) as plentiful as the next event. With a roster size of 36 I rarely miss a DDP. With respect, what else should I shot for? I'm not trying to say that I was given nothing for the money I've spent. The point is that I had a goal, a driving reason to continue spending money in a completely ignorant way. That goal was a promise from MPQ that what I spent my money for was going to be delivered when paid in full. Since I scored the first copy of her I was hooked and knew I wanted her as my flagship character. To that end I have attempted to reach her through the only means at my disposal, CASH! Lots of it too. If I could only pull that red, I could stop wasting money on packs and spend it on her.... That's what I've told myself for almost 3 months anyway.

Any money spent on packs is an absolute waste, unless you enjoy the rush of a gamble.

    Op,

You should not buy cover packs. They are extremely expensive for their expected rewards.

Also, mpq never promises that the current state of the game will last forever. To the contrary, they make frequent changes.

While I think that this game is more than a little overmonetized in that it has design elements that exist purely to take advantage of player psychology and incentive real money expenditures, it is also fairly hard to argue that players are "cheated" by game system changes.

If you are a 2* player, forget throwing money at cover packs for a .4% change of the 4* you want. Focus on building a 3* roster first.
  • As one may understand by what I wrote, my roster is substantial in both size and covers for 3 stars. It may surprise you how large and diverse a roster of 3 stars one develops in the search for a fully colored 4 star. Never mind the two star roster you can choose from. Being caught up on day 87 as a marker for experience or roster size/strength, in this case, is misleading. In this case it completely distracts from the point I was trying to make. I do thank you for the input so far and understand that nothing posted here is wrong. Even the part about it being a waste of money buying packs

With that in mind, the desire to achieve a higher level of play at an earlier time is built into very core of nearly all FTP games. The game platform is free to play, not free to win and I like most enjoy winning. Players like me (stupid, ignorant or insert insult) should not be punished for supporting the game to our advantage. I won't argue that we should be treated better either but punished?

We can argue legal semantics concerning wether or not the promise of the state of the game argument applies in this case. You can say that the Devs/publishers sold me a product with no guarantee that it will remain the same forever. I signed the dotted line.... Enough said. I will argue that our transaction isn't even complete and now, through the actions of the Devs/Pubs, the product is no longer the same as when I begun the purchase. Every Dollar spent (hundreds thus far) has been to acquire, in the only way available to me, a particular Thor Goddess of Thunder. Now they change the product and offer to take it back at what should be an illegal restocking rate. What's worse, it's not even legal tender for purchases outside of the game.

I can't agree w/ your restocking fee analogy, b/c MPQ is a digital product while restocking fee involves the return of a physical, tangible good. Heck, I would argue that D3 doesn't even have to give anything (iso/hp) to players who cut out characters from their rosters. there is an argument to be made that clearing roster space is its own reward, and D3 granting players iso/hp is merely a curtesy.

Exactly my point, semantics. Since the word I chose was restock instead of refund, instant rebuttal, Plus something about clearing out a roster space as if that was ever mentioned. The word "refund" implies to "RE"turning "FUND"s which is not happening and as such cannot be used. They are offering a return for in-store credit to be spent in an extremely limited way. Not only that but they are barely offering pennies on the dollar in exchange.

Should have taken my own damn advice. I got PX fever and saw all teh posts about peolpe getting him for the connection issue event tokens handed out (i got 750 iso for my 3 tokens), so I bought my very first 10 pack ever...after over a year. I recieved not one single gold. So in an attempt to lesson the blow I oponed my season 10 pack I was saving and got myself an entire pink DD all to myself....zowiee what a treat.

Can't be mad at anyone but myself....but man is it deflating. I nearly bought another 10 pack out of spite, but instead resolved to continue to no longer spend money on this game as I vowed a couple months ago.

Don't ever stray from your own rules. icon_e_sad.gif

Free to play, but pay to win, at least for someone starting later. You nailed it on the head. That being said, if winning is all that matters, why play? You essentially understand that if you throw hundreds of dollars at a game, you can win. How is that worth it? I have lots of disposable income, but it would just feel like buying cheat codes to me. If you're looking for a sense of status or social recognition, you'll be sorely disapointed. The game is not very skill based, and you never face people, only the computer. Don't sink into the "sunk costs" fallacy, and go play a game that doesn't cost you more than 60 dollars to win. You'll feel a lot better about yourself I'm sure.

Even if they didn't "nerf" Thor. You might feel forced to perform this entire search again when an even "better" 4* came out. I've seen this happen a number of times on the forum. There was one forumite who explained that he spent $1000 to find Fury. He then felt forced to devote his life grinding away for Thor and hated it. He must have been freaking out a lot, because his girlfriend stepped in and played matches for him late at night while he slept. In the end, he got GoT the "cheap" way. But the 4* characters kept coming. He freaked out again when the next 4* arrived, demanding that Demiurge explain themselves. I haven't seen him post since. He probably quit. I just hope he's happier now and not suffering the same anguish in some other F2P game.

Im just going to leave this here:

i bought a 10 pack... back at the begginning of 2014... never again. if i soen money its going straight into a cover i want. i will never gamble. guess thats why i dont like th casino
  • I've gotten countless hours of free play time. It doesn't bother me to toss a few bucks into the game now and then. Not because I think I'll get something good in return, but to pay back good times I've already had. That's my philosophy for all F2P games. If they're fun and playable, I pay them after the fact; and if they need money to get fun, they get uninstalled with $0 spent.
  • Cover Packs are a scam. Almost embarrassingly so.

I bought Tokens, back when I was in 1*/2* land and I was interested in every cover I received from them. No regrets. The OP is way beyond that stage --- probably discarding 95 out of every 100 covers purchased --- so I also think he should just stop before the regrets pile up. If he does stop now, then the Thor nerf is a blessing in disguise.

However, I'm not saying "never buy Tokens" as some would. I'm saying that the quest for specific characters, particularly 3* and 4* tokens is a very, very disappointing endeavor. Plus, if someone's interest in MPQ rests on the "value" of these ultra-rare items, well then their interest in MPQ is a very fragile thing. I think that inevitably such a person will regret having ever picked up the game.

There are whales here that enjoy collecting every character and they seem pretty happy having spent a good amount of money on MPQ. To them, I tip my hat. Thank you for supporting the game we both love. Nothing is a bad purchase if it actually brings you enjoyment and doesn't destroy the rest of your life.
