Holy **** I think I have it
So I was considering something scottee said in another thread. He basically said something that, while true, is worrisome.
He basically said that charged tile skills had to be underpowered because we're getting more skills that charge tiles.
This is accurate in two ways. If we get a character that, for instance, makes charged tiles as a passive, this will clearly be problematic with Smite. It's also true that, from a design standpoint, future skills that make charged tiles will absolutely 100% need to be very bad outside of the "paired with GT" context.
So how do we solve this?
What is the biggest problem with charged tiles? Well, they give you 3 ap per tile.
This means Power Surge has a decent chance of making your next blue match into 9 blue ap, which chains into another Power Surge. Two power surges in a couple turns makes it basically impossible to lose, regardless of the opponent's team.
But what if this wasn't the case. What if charged tiles gave you 2 ap, instead of 3.
See, the way we're going, every single charged tile character is going to be bad, because it has to be. But we're not doomed to this future, as long as the charged tile mechanic itself is fixed.
Just like that, GT doesn't even need to be changed. She can still kill big characters, but it's way more difficult to get an infinite stunlock going. What's more, you have to consider the board much more carefully, because you can't just power surge and expect to match into 10 red ap. So she's slower.
And this way, we don't have a garbage 4* who does less for 19 ap than Cage.

I think it would make sense to have more charged tiles (than the 4Thor nerf or redone Ragnarok), but have the AP weaker.0 -
Charges tiles also do 3x damage which is nasty.0

it seemed from the post is that they while they were concerned about the charged tile generation they were more concerned about the damage output. or at least that was my interpretation of that second hand info. lol nerf beast.. please, please devs nerf beast and Doc they are too strong. oh man the lulz.0

The other thing that wasn't communicated well and that I don't think that the majority of people realize is that some of the changes that were just made to characters were done so that they wouldn't have to make as many changes in the future. There are only so many game mechanics in the game and a lot of times a character only suits certain mechanics thematically. If plans to release one or more characters in the future means that they will introduce more broken combos, why not fix it now instead of fixing every character down the line?0

Not a troll. You really believe that? I haven't seen much that has indicated they look very far into the future with this game. It would be great if what you are saying is true, but if so that would mean there would be less character changes in the future? Would love to fast forward six months and see if that is true.0

I like the OP. It's entirely possible that charged tiles needed a "nerf," rather than Thor to solve a problem they had with her. Of course, it's all speculation at this point.
But, here's what I think people aren't willing to believe, yet may be entirely true: they would rework an existing character just because it made their job of designing new characters difficult. Most of us understand why they "nerf" a single character rather than "buffing" every other character in the game! They have a 2 week release schedule, after all. The Sentry nerf may be overdone, but it also ensures that he'll never waste their time again. Maybe they'll decide one day that X-Force is too high of a standard to live up to and still meet deadlines.
IceIX said once that Ragnarok's 3rd power was delayed because it interacted badly with someone else. I'm sure they aren't happy with that. Even if there aren't any new charged tile characters in the pipe, the experience might have been troublesome enough that they didn't want to go through it again.
The Devs don't make the best decisions. We all know that by now. We should all strongly consider that fact when purchasing multiple covers for a single character in the game.0 -

I do, yes. It seems like way too much of a coincidence to cut the charged tiles from power surge by less than half and release ragnarok's new power making a pathetic amount of charged tiles. Thus is over correction. They tested Gt and a ragnarok that produced 6+ green tiles from a non red/blue ability and saw that you could smite for 30k+ damage, and panicked.0 -
Ok, so less character changes in the future, therefore we can all be more confident in investing HP in covers etc. Nice.0

Allow players to only use one 4* at a time. That would create an environment where they could truly be 4*'s and encourage roster diversity at the same time.0

they could of just programmed the AI to go for charged tiles over regular tiles0

Well as said earlier, I look forward to less character changes in the future then. And therefore less forum posts about people unhappy they have got covers and a week later characters have been changed. If the dev's are that forward thinking, the events of the last week will be a thing of the past.0 -

Jamie I will look forward to the new character release where you can point out this mythical first turn kill combo if MN mags or mystique weren't nerfed. It would make me feel a lot better about the dev team and their ability to have some forward vision than I currently do.0 -

I find it hard to believe that nerfing mystique will really save an infinite combo, but we'll see. IMO her and Mmags didn't both need to be nerfed. Mystique is no powerhouse, and IMO she was pretty well balanced before she was needlessly nerfed. I don't see how costing 1 more AP and changing a couple less tiles will undercut some threshold of inifinite loops.0 -

umm... correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't charged tiles give Rag health when blue power is triggered? If so, then this means Miles/etc. could use charged tiles to give a variety of benefits/abilities. I think ppl should really hold off selling their goddess characters until we see what charged tiles can do in new character releases this year. Unless I'm mistaken, we're still getting new characters at a rate of one per month.0
