Welp, I Screwed Up A Week of Grinding

Grinding the **** Hunt PVE for one lousy Professor X cover.

I'm at work (because PVE end times are generally bad. I can play at work, or I can play at midnight when I should be sleeping/spending time with someone that isn't an increasibly terrible P2W game) and I forget about my sub ending.

****! I've got 10 minutes to grind some points and hold on to 50th place. Of course, D3 decides this is a PERFECT time to push a patch to my phone, costing me precious time to grind.

I end up finishing 54th, 900 points back of 50th. I managed to do 2 battles before time ran out.

Yes, it's my fault, I could have done 3 nodes an hour ago and been fine. But hey, it is what it is. It's still **** that a) prizes are limited to top 50, b) a **** patch is pushed through 5 minutes before the end of a sub c) the rewards are **** to begin with.

I got okay with missing the reward because I realized: Professor X is a 4*, and unless you drop 100s of dollars on this game, it is simply impossible to collect and max all the 4*s anyway. I've been here a long time. I have nearly all the 3*s maxed. I have a maxed XForce. My 4* Thor is level 230 or something. My other 4*s? Barely anything into them, because it's simply impossible to get the ISO by playing the game to level this many characters.

That sucks. A game of collecting where you're forced on a treadmill to keep up, but simply can't actually ever max them all, because D3 keeps releasing new, mediocre cards every 2 weeks. Oh well, play Puzzle & Dragons.

  • Sorry for your loss.

Have you considered consciously stepping off the self-imposed treadmill and forgetting about the so-called "four-star transition" which is entirely unnecessary? I have X-Force at lvl 180 and no other **** of note, yet consistently place Top 5 in PVPs whenever I want the covers or just for the 5K ISO. With the addition of DDQ, I earn enough ISO to add five levels to a *** every other day and with 61 roster slots PVE is a breeze.

Seriously, there is NO reason to actively pursue **** covers, at least not right now.
  • Just one more reason to never play PVE ever again.

As a reward distribution system, it is literally broken. It does not distribute properly. It is an awful abomination in this game.

Is this the same patch update 72 that people have had a week to download at their leisure?

No, this is the push patch to load Heroic Venom.

Been there, done that. I feel your pain.

There was some event a while ago where there was a cover reward that stopped at #150 -- I totally forget what the event or the cover was, but I do remember that it was a cover I would have found really, really useful. I was sitting comfortably in the reward zone, and then totally forgot about the event's end time until it was all over.

    I finished #151.

    ARRRRGH.

Maybe I'm just in a lucky bracket but I've found that you really don't need to play PvE as optimally as these forums suggest.

    Just follow these golden rules:
    1) Always have nodes counting down
    2) By the end of each sub have each node below 100 points

That's pretty much it. Waiting for that pivotal 8 hour point to clear or grinding everything in the last hour is optimal for sure but not necessary by any means. You could do most of your grinding in the morning/afternoon and just do a clean up clear or 2 in the last hour and you'll do fine. It's what I've done in this PvE due to my schedule and I'm currently battling for top 5.
  • I'm sorry you worked so hard almost to be denied your cover. I don't understand what's the harm in having a single PVE where a 4* is given out with the same reward tiers as a 3*. They only give out 4* for a single PVE so what's the difference between 150/1000 people getting a cover and 50/1000 getting a cover? After the PVE event, you'll still require people to find them in packs, place stupidly high, or pay 2.5k hp for so why be so stingy when they won't ever be given out as a base reward?

They are making it even easier for me to decide to take PVE easy/completely off with a 5 day heroic as the following event.

I was planning on jumping in the last hour of a recent pvp and forgot about it until the next morning. Sorry alliance (and season score)! My bad.

If it makes you feel any better, scoring in the Top 50 would have only gotten you a Prof X purple, which is pretty much useless all on it's own. Had it been his Blue, I could see your pain. I'm actually deliberately staying out of the top 50 because I'd rather have the DD red than the Prof X purple.
  • I'm in the same boat as you OP. We should have realized that this isn't actually a game. It's a business. The creators give zero **** about the people that play. If your players want a new character, they should be able to get it. I'm not saying we need freebies, but if I play your **** game 3 times a day for minimum one hour sessions for a week straight, I better damn well get what I was working towards, not some **** little consolation prize in a character that has no relevance.

    **** you D3

Yeah, I mad. Ban me, I don't care. Probably quitting. Later.

Don't have the roster space, and missing DD Red...
Decision was made when i realised it's top 50 and purple. It's been a nice week, only really missing the hero points from each of the subs had i pushed a little.
  • I pretty much gave up on the grind after first day. Busy days at work (lots of overtime, too) guaranteed that I had no time nor energy to compete. And for what? One measly ProfX purple cover. Nay, thanks. I took the whole PvE pretty laid back and it was great decision. Especially since the follow-up was a 5-day long Heroic event...
  • I feel for you, been there done that both in PvE (oups, missed a whole sub!) and in PvP (when was that shield supposed to end again?).
I have a theory: your brain didn't forget, it purposely tricked you, going on strike at he worst moment to protest about the crazy schedule you're submitted to in this game. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Out of curiosity, how many covers do you have on your X-Force to get to 180?

Also, I have to say it's a bit ironic to say "bah, don't worry about the 4 star transition" when you're currently rocking a high-ish level 4* that's consistetly carrying you to the top 5 in PVP. Sort of makes the argument for having at least one 4* leveled up, doesn't it?

really? top 5?? what's your secret? that's impressive, even top 25 wtih a low xforce and nothing else.

Or maybe you'd rather keep your secrets, and I wouldn't blame you.

I actually worked really hard at the end and pushed from being around rank 60-70 second to last day, to rank 57 last day, to moving up in last 5 hours to rank 52, and then in last 10 minutes to rank 50, and last 2 minutes to rank 48. I came 40 points above rank 51 out of almost 100k points. Crazy how close it was at the end, but because I didn't give up, I made it back into top 50.

12 covers on the X-Force, missing a yellow. Having one **** is not "transitioning" (IMO): it's just a useful tool to help a firmly-anchored *** roster. X-Force helps in PVP but only situationally - majority of my wins are with two 166s and the gimmee.

Late-start plus fast, non-stop playing for 60-90 minutes. Sometimes spend 200 HP on health packs if the covers merit the expense or I have to duel with someone for #1 spot and need faster wins, but usually just rotate through the roster. Occasional tanking to keep MMR in check, too.

My alliance is The Swarm if you want to check out my roster - it's nothing special but pretty solid for PVP and PVE.

I do this too. I have other 4*s leveled up but really XF is the key, imo. I usually pair him with a 3* and boost up and I can beat any foe including maxed XF/4Thor/featured, without much concern. Smart timing and hopping and I can rank high consistently.

My XF is cover maxed but I don't see any reason to level max him as I already consistently reach my goals and I'd rather spread ISO around.
