Do 4*'s do -anything- for you?

156 5/5/3 Fury (mainly due to lucky token pulls, 3 blues in 12 hr period)
    156 3/2/3 Xforce
    131 0/1/4 Devil Dino
    127 3/0/3 Thor
    104 1/5/2 IW
    104 3/2/1 Elektra
    70 1/1/1 Starlord

Got 2 Thor/SL from initial PVE, I think 3 Elektra. Others have come from Top 2 PVE finishes or token pulls. I've pulled enough Fury's to respec him. I had him at 3/5/5, I think, or 4/5/4, can't remember. The only one I really use, is Fury, in PVE. He is too squishy and I don't have any 3* over 140, so he will tank too many colors. I love his blue, and use it a bunch, to down people quickly. No one else has the covers to be usable, so they sit on the bench.
  • I like 4* PVE's. The reason is, I know people are going to play ridiculously hard for even one cover so I don't bother. 4* PVE's let me take a break, while I know other people are grinding like crazy and even forgoing sleep, sometimes only to say screw it all in the final day or two. I sometimes used to do this; now I don't make a wasted sacrifice in the first place.

The way higher effort required to place top 10 makes me just ignore it all, play casually and go for final progression instead.

In terms of combat, my X-force isn't super usable, but does act as a minor scarecrow, and surgical strike 'feels' amazing, even though I don't have the right covers for it yet. IW is ok to play with for the novelty. Don't have any other 4* covered enough to get much of a feel for them, except devil dino.

The reality is that there's no real endgame with a game like this. The one thing that would make the game more interesting is new story content, not a new character we have to chase every 2 weeks. But stories don't generate revenue, do they?

Actually, I think this might even be a way to shift gears. Just an idea that popped into my head (haven't thought it out at all), but why not go down the "comic book business model" route and create pay-to-play content.

1,000HP gets you a whole new story line with story-line exclusive characters.

Meanwhile, back in free-to-play land, increase drop rate for higher level covers.

Have f2p and p2p battle it out as we are currently doing but in tiered brackets.

But base it all on a pay-for-content model..?

As long as there's a way to cover max them, I'd be down for this ("exclusive" would make me worry about being able to get 13 covers). Spending 100s of HP on shields to hit a 1k progression is a pretty empty experience. Funneling that into a mode where I could get equivalent covers and new stuff, would make it feel better spent.

It is a pretty empty experiance when it's your only hope and the cycle rotation takes months for (for example a GT blue) to come up.

I'm not complainign about the 1000, a lot of people can hit it, and i'm not complaining about PvP, it is what it is. Going for 1300 with old shields was fun and sorta doable. Going for 1000 with new shields appears to be very doable, but i've only done it twice and didn't get the cover for it. I hit 1000 twice in a PvP for blue GT cover, and both times got hit for 50 right as I watched my ticker climb to 1000 and give me the green check mark for my coveted reward. I had the perfect roster for the climb. cage match, so no facing xforces, and with my maxed patch / daken / blade combo, it was hard but fun and doable. and when I said I hit it twice, that means twice on the same PvP and ended up with no reward and 970 pts or so.

I've tried 900 a couple times and can't do it with my roster unless I have a high level feature charecter that jives with my xforce cmags (or thor willing replaces cmags)....since that's the best I can do. So, I'm deflated, not bitter, but to me it is an empty experiance. i'm happy /sad a new cool 4* is out, becuase I have no interest in IW or Electra, or Star Lord, and don't need Xforce, just leaves GT. It's a really empty and trying experiance if you don't have the right team to fend off attacks. I get beaten to the ground the second I break sheild and I'm over 700. so 300 pts while getting hit for 25 - 50 while I'm fighting is a mountain I'm no longer interested in climbing.

If there was a different method of aquiring the covers (besides finishing top 1 or 2 which will never happen) I'd be interested. And I belive it should still take time, effort, skill HP, and be frustrating. I don't want it "easier" but another outlet to gain them would keep me more interested in the game.

I'm glad that we don't have the power creep that makes each new 4 a must-have. That sort of hamster wheel gets very demoralizing very quickly, so I'm glad they've resisted the temptation to go that route
One day later, I need to retract this compliment. Instead of making our characters irrelevant via power creep in new characters, they've done it directly via these nerfs. Instant demoralization accomplished.
  • spent money to get a 3 covers for 551 xforce. using him to build the rest of my 3*, had 11 covered hulk as highest 3* prior to xforce
