Ready to buy a few covers - which char(s)?

Hi there!

I've decided to drop a little money on MPQ, since I've been playing for a while now and I've really enjoyed the game. I'm excited to (hopefully) jump-start some PvP and I feel good about supporting the game.

Anyway, I'm planning on buying 8500 HP, Which will give me about 10,500 HP total, or about 8 3* covers. I'm looking for some suggestions about where I'll get the most "bang for my buck" with my current roster. My goal here is to be competitive enough in PvP to start ramping up the rate I get more 3* covers, so basically I'm looking for a team that will consistently help me place in the top 100. Here are my notable 3*'s and 4*'s I have to work with (these are ones I have at least one cover for each ability).

Grocket, 4/3/2, Lvl 102
GSBW, 5/3/5, Lvl 100 (obviously don't need any more covers, but ready for leveling if another partner makes sense)
Hood, 5/5/1, Lvl 100
Nick Fury, 1/1/2, Lvl 94
Spider Man, 3/5/3, Lvl 92
X-Force, 1/1/2, Lvl 78
Blade, 2/2/1, Lvl 66
Patch, 1/1/3, Lvl 66
Iron Man, 3/5/4, Lvl 55
LazyThor, 1/3/1, Lvl 55
Luke Cage, 2/2/1, Lvl 53
Psylocke, 2/2/1, Lvl 45
Squirrel Girl, 2/2/3, Lvl 43
Gamora, 5/4/1, Lvl 40
Daredevil, 4/1/1, Lvl 40
Steve Rodgers, 2/2/2, Lvl 40
Captain Marvel, 1/1/2, Lvl 40
Falcon, 2/1/1, Lvl 40
Loki, 1/1/1, Lvl 40

Thanks for any input!

Honestly, I'm not sure you have enough to cover up a team that will consistently get you in the top 100.

The problem I see is the two best 3* tanky characters on that list -- Patch and LThor -- only have 5 covers each. And you probably need at least one of them if you want to consistently place in the top 100. So you'd have to spend most, if not all, of your stash to decently cover up one of them (as you'd have to get to at least 11 covers, I'd say) while still leaving enough left over for the shielding you might have to do to protect your top 100 status in those PvPs. Which leaves you without enough to cover up someone to run alongside them.

If you had a decent sidekick who's already got 8 or so covers, you might be able to get away with it. From your list, the only reasonable option that fits the bill there is GSBW. Spidey is an offensive black hole, so you'd be heavily relying on the featured character, which is a crapshoot. Gamora can be strong, but only if she's the top dog in the hunt, as she needs to be tanking certain colors to be fully effective. If you're pairing her with Patch or Lthor, that probably ain't gonna happen. I love R&G, but they are primarily an alternative tank. Iron Man is.... well, he's not terrible.

If you can cover up LThor or Patch (Patch is probably preferred, because he just works faster), you can probably piece together a team with GSBW, R&G, and one other covered-up sidekick. (Blade would be great, but again there might not be enough left.) That's probably enough to get you into the top 100...

I defer to more experienced voices, though.

One more thought -- you might be better off waiting a little while to see if there's an HP sale coming down the road. Better to get 2x the HP for your $ down the road if, at that point, it'll definitely get you enough covers to place consistently.

I'd strongly recommend following DaveR4470's advice and waiting for a sale. I'd also recommend using a lot of that HP for roster slots instead of covers.

That being said, if you want to start dumping HP into covers and see the most immediate returns, the best value for your current lineup would be to get Rocket & Groot to 166. They're a pretty good climbing team as you can get that true healing action to keep you going sans health packs. Gamora can hit pretty hard, but she also kinda sucks in relation to the rest of the 3* crew. Still, you've got more covers for her than almost anyone else and she can take a beating.

Hood is a no-brainer...except you don't need levels for him to do his thing. He's also pretty squishy so you don't want him tanking for you, especially in the absence of a heavy-hitter to make use of all that AP he's going to be sucking up. You've got what you need to make him the all-star in PvE but you need someone beefier to run alongside him in PvP. The same holds true for GSBW, even though you don't need covers for her at all. She could be of use to you if you hide her behind someone like Ares while you build up green to drop that Sniper Rifle bomb. Of course, that assumes you have Ares up to snuff and don't mind losing out on his Onslaught.

The rest are mostly either too far under-covered to make it worth the investment and/or not all that great besides.

If you haven't yet, you should take the time to read NorthernPolarity's superlative transition guide which lives right at the top of this very sub. That's what helped get me to where I am now, and even though it isn't quite as fresh as it could be, is still an invaluable comprehension discussion on the topic.

    Good luck!
