The devs are listening

I, along with a big company issued a deal of whining in the last week+ pointing out serious problems and suggesting changes. As we had a serious dip recently.

Now I have to do some praise, as I see serious improvements in the last day. Including:

- shield prices back to original
- progression prizes are back close to old days: spread in points better, HP went back to 400 pts, second HP reward back to 100HP
- the long-waited Punisher tournament is here finally and the buffing looks good.
- new pve uses maggia finally, and it seem to almost have more variety just in the first episode than we had in all the Hunt.
- missions are repeatable and use the suggested "add to the opponent strength" idea
- the buff system looks using the some nonlinear schema
- new character, and one with a brand new mechanic in abilities

Kudos this time, and keep steering to the right direction. icon_e_smile.gif

  • More cover slots. Previously the limit was 40. I have 50 and have the option to buy more
  • The devs are for sure NOT listening.
When they solve the basic issues that are being brought to their attention over and over and over (confirmation for buying/recruiting/training; get control/get rid of the annoying pop-ups; being able to identify whom a countdown tile belongs to...) I'll maybe believe that.
We are their guinea pigs: only because they stop giving us electroshocks and begin to test another thing on us, it does not mean that our screams have changed their opinion.
But yes, there are some good changes there (except for making all missions repeatable: even MORE grinding? I didn't believe it possible...)
  • THick as Thieves is by some margin the most enjoyable PvE format I'v experienced so far.
  • The devs have consistently done things to try and improve the game. Every patch day you can see the work they're putting into the game. You can read in the patch notes how proud/excited they are about the work they've done. Most of the "good" changes to me have so far been cosmetic though. In my opinion, the non-cosmetic changes they make seem more often than not to receive a negative reaction from the player base here. I don't think they do it on purpose of course. They want a good game that everybody likes and spends money on and plays for 30 hours a day. Do I always agree with the negative reaction they receive? No. But I do think they've made some questionable decisions at times and it's been frustrating waiting for them to straighten #$@! out. I also think there are some issues that people have been raising since the game launched that still haven't been tweaked satisfactorily, mainly matchmaking and PVP mechanics in general for me. I have questioned at times how many people on the team have previous experience developing games.

These forums wouldn't exist if the devs didn't care what players thought. And when people raise a loud enough ruckus, the devs in general do seem to be listening and try to improve things. Sometimes, as seen in the past week of PVP, they end up making it worse. This is why so many people have been **** the past week, myself included, because I think they are listening. And so we've been hollering to make sure they hear and maybe rearrange their priorities. Overall, I wouldn't still be playing if I didn't think the devs were making an effort, if I didn't see the potential for progress, and if I wasn't still having fun (usually).

You also have to keep in mind that when people are unhappy, that's when they have the most to say. When people are happy, they're too busy playing and don't think to stop and post about how much fun they're having. So it just seems a given that forum posts will seem to reflect a higher percentage of negativity than actually exists in the player base.
  • Very pleased with most recent round of changes. While there are still issues, this most recent round of changes (or in some cases changes back) were definitely steps in the right direction.
  • I won a fight against The Hood for 1000 points.

The screen said that I could fight again for another 1000 points.

The fight finished and I only got 1 point. That was a complete waste of time and money.

I would have said that after the first sub event.

When the levels didn't re-set for the second sub event, it all went horribly wrong.

That was really the only mistake with how they implemented this event.

It didn't help that the long-expected Wolvie nerf AND the fix to Patch both landed during a PVE event where they were buffed characters (and, in the case of Patch, a crutch that was letting players with lesser heroes actually win some battles in this PVE event once the levels got stupidly high), but eh. Both those were coming and were objectively right.

It REALLY didn't help that they made boosts cost HP at the same time, something which hadn't been even hinted at in advance. That just made everyone mad, for good reason. It is frankly greedy and "pay to win".

But ending the experiment on shield prices, the variety of enemies and new enemies in Thick as Thieves, the new mechanics on Daredevil, all of those were good things... but overshadowed by how incredibly unfun Thick as Thieves became and the way it coincided with the Wolvie/Thor nerf and the terrible decision on boosts. Plus people were already annoyed by the lousy matchmaking in the recent PVP tournaments and the complete lack of communication about it (and the lack of communication on boosts didn't help there either... there is a pattern! TALK TO THE PLAYERS IN ADVANCE!)
