I'm thinking if a health pack healed all 3 people to full that'd offset the loss of boosts at least in PvE. I'm not sure how PvP will work, because in PvE you can rotate guys to make sure you get more mileage out of your health pack under this system, but PvP you wouldn't due to how defense team is determined which would make it extremely dangerous to change your team, and that the featured character can never be rotated out so if he's taking significant damage he alone dictates you have to use health pack at a certain pace, which might be too fast if there are no AP boosts in the game.
seems to be an approach of overcomplicating the issue.
You're going to need a complicated solution to handle the loss of boosts. This is why even though D3 said they think boosts is cheaty they haven't gotten rid of it, because it'd be complicated to keep the game still playable without them.0 -

No, it doesn't have to be complicated. Look at Trissul's suggestion - add more health packs....boom. He didn't call for a multilevel situational formula to be attached to it. I'm not saying it's the best suggestion, but it's plausable, I find yours unmanagible. Its' nothing personal, just my opinion. I think it's scattered and overcomplicated and leaves HEAPS of room for glitches, issues, ect0 -
For 98% of situations, boosts are reasonable. Boosts exist to let people beat challenges that they otherwise wouldn't able to be able to have a chance at. Without boosts, how fun would it be to attempt an overscaled Juggernaut + 2 sniper node over and over hoping to get a lucky board? Even with boosts getting wiped 3 or more times in a row isn't unheard of.
The problem really occurs only at high-level PVP where in order to shield hop faster you have to boost AP. However, even then how much time does it save? Probably less than a minute, enough that even if you forget boosts you'll probably make it out unaffected. It'd be a shame if D3 ever decided to punish everyone just because the top 1% of PVP battles use boosts.0 -

I'd have to agree, on your Juggs node example, an infinite amount of health packs may not help. There are PvE nodes that require boosts and a prayer0 -
Haven't read through yet so maye this has been suggested already. But I wouldn't mind if boosts became "story event" exclusive.
They can be very helpful to those without established rosters, to get through the prologue. I've loaded up on boosts just to beat certain Gaunlet nodes in the past. I don't see a problem with people using them to complete the harder of the PvE nodes just to grab much-needed points.
I don't think they give an unfair atvantage to those using them in PvP - anyone can use them. But of course (like so many things in this game) there comes a point where it becomes obvious that if you're not doing it you will not succeed.0 -

I use them for speed, not because I can't win (easily) without them. Remove boosts and there isn't even close to a 50% loss rate.
Even when i do use boosts vs mirror teams in my pre-shield climb it's only generally +2 green/black to speed XF up a bit. using more than that is reserved for hopping which is AGAIN only for speed.
As far as the OP's poll I personally only have an issue with +all AP boosts and even then only because it makes it tougher to have any ability that is impactful and 6 or less AP without ppl theorycrafting that it is totally OP AS LONG AS you are willing to use HP every fight .
So you don't use boosts, unless the opponent is as strong as your team (a mirror), in that case you do to lower X Force to 2 match and Surgical Strike to 3 match instead of 3/4 matches. And you don't see the problem with your reasoning? In the X Force dominated PvP world getting X Force or Surgical Strike before your opponent is the entire game. If you fail you'd take at least a health pack worth of damage and sometimes outright lose the game. That's why you boost in the first place so you need one less match to hit it before the other team does. Most teams in PvP aren't really that strong so you can get away with not boosting at all but you just said you'd do it if they're as strong as your team (mirror).
I don't use boosts AT ALL vs mirror teams unless I am in a position where I need to win quickly because of the way PvP is constructed. That's why I quite clearly said in my pre shield climb where I am quite specifically trying to win as quickly as possible to get a score to shield at before my score updates in too many people's nodes and invites incoming attacks. Having said that, maybe that's a personal kind of terminology and you thought I meant every match before my first shield?
If i'm at, say, 550 and think "i'll go for 600 before sitting there until I decide to climb" and get a mirror team come up I don't waste ISO on boosts. I also don't lose and don't haemhorrage health packs. I win easily barring a big unforeseeable enemy cascade because the ai is terrible. It matches colours it has no use for, it prioritises TU tiles even when it's random TU is terrible and/or inapplicable and it won't focus on collecting one colour to actually fire an ability off. The suggestion anyone might NEED boosts to have a significantly positive win rate in a mirror match OR just to avoid using loads of health packs is basically throwing an insult at that person by implying they can't outplay the deeply useless ai.0 -
Boosts are literally the only thing enabling me to beat the X-Force/Thoress teams.
Currently at #18 in Sticks and Stones with Lvl 102 Luke Cage, Lvl 94 OBW and Lvl 94 Ares. EVERY SINGLE TEAM up here has a high level X-Force with usually a high level Thoress to go. I always boost yellow/red and purple/blue and then it's all about denying AP to the AI while prioritizing purple and yellow myself and hoping the AI doesn't get a lucky cascade. Luke Cage/X-Force/Iron Fist teams I just skip, by the way.
Edit: Dropped a 24 hour shield at 695 points at rank 18 because I'm priority target #1 for all here and I'm just hoping that I can at least get the red DD cover. If I don't shield I get hit for -200 points in the span of a few hours. Happened to me last night.
Without boosts I wouldn't even be able to slightly compete at all.0 -
PVP - I don't boost in PVP since my roster is a bit down (2* - 3* trasitioner) so boosting to me won't make much of a difference. PVE however, with lose lvl 200-240 Sentry and Hoods running around, yeah i'll boost all the time, I've collected a stash anyway and it's the only way my roster can take out those heroes without relying on so many health packs.0
