Any tips/hope for moving up PvP ranks with JUST 4* Xforce?

So I took quite a break from MPQ a while back, and have returned now & am having fun.
I don't really need any more 3* characters (list below), so after maxing the revamped Doom and Loki (both v.good) I decided I'd bite the bullet and finally dabble in 4* PvP.
The thing is I have completely missed out on G.Thor's ascension, so all I have of her is 1|-|1 covers from tokens since I returned.
My 5|5|1 Xforce is at L229 (though I have enough ISO to buy 1 more yellow cover to raise his cap some more), and I've been pairing him with Loki as seems to be the forum consensus.
I've been comfortably getting past the 700's in a session, but the minute I turn my back I'm literally down to low 500's again from a dozen attacks by Xforce/G.Thor or Xforce/max.featured/max.annoyance (e.g. Daken)...
Obviously I'm not afraid to attack such teams, but it's all feeling kind of pointless:
> I'm well aware my team isn't very intimidating, because I'd certainly attack my team over those!
> I'm just back at the points I could get anyway using a 3* team anyway, so why bother wasting time making points I'll only lose?
Has anyone overcome the same position, or should I just save my time and wait however many months until I collect a viable G.Thor/other 4* that becomes the must-have?
Roster
3*s: Black Panther, Black Widow, Doctor Doom, Human Torch, Loki, Psylocke, The Hood, The Hulk, The Punisher, Thor
4*s: Elektra (2|1|2), Invisible Woman (5|2|3), G.Thor (1|-|1), Nick Fury (1|-|-)
If Invisible Woman is buffed 1,000% soon, I'll be set!
N.B. Cover-wise I could max. Magneto, Daredevil, Spider-Man or Iron Man - I just haven't figured out any value in doing so.

Welcome back! Indeed it is quite fun now with lotsa new characters.
I currently have a max xforce, and 16 other max 3*. I can reach 1k comfortably with some shield hops (typically 3,8,3). Xforce will give you a lot of advantage, especially the green and black!
When you reach the higher levels, you would come across a lot of Xforce and GT teams. I usually attack this team with Xforce and Deadpool. Xforce surgical strike will generate either green or red which you can use for Xforce green and dp red.
When I climb at earlier part of pvp, I use Xforce too. Usually mixed with other characters such as cmag, groot, cage, Lcap, lthor etc...
Regarding points loses, well, you definitely *have* to shield. If you don't shield, even if you have Xforce and GT, you will still get hit down to 700 points. An intimidating team will reduce the rate of your points loss, but eventually enough people hit you for you to lose a lot of points.
Good luck! You are in a great position with the Xforce that you have!0 -
Thanks, Atomized.
I might be a tad unrealistic in my expectations, then; think I shall aim to build a bit slower for now while I level up, and maybe try some hopping when I hit a PvP which I have a maxed essential character for.
As a maxed X-Force owner, would you particularly recommend buying those last yellow covers - or just waiting to win/draw them randomly?
I've never been shy about buying covers at the 3* level (usually when I hit 11-12 covers or 13 but suboptimal), but I am waivering over this one...0 -

The main use of the yellow cover is to allow your Xforce to reach 270. However the difference between a soft cap 12 covers Xforce is very small compared to a max 13 cover Xforce. However, if you have a level 270 Xforce, you may find that you get hit slower in the pvp, as people tried to avoid max Xforce if possible. So while realistically it don't make a difference, psychologically you become slightly more intimidating.
You can always try to wait for a 1000 progression reward of Xforce yellow, and try to shield hop till 1000 for it. Speaking of which, the current Iron Fist pvp feature a Xforce yellow for 1k progression! If you have the time (ie in later slice), you can aim for it.
Also, do get into a top 100 alliance. With your roster you should be able to get in quite easily.
p.s. It's atomzed with the "I", But hey it's ok, many spell it wrongly.0 -

One strategy some people I see people use is to join one of the shark brackets, as I like to call them, and climb as high as possible early, let it chill for awhile (with or without shielding) and ride on the backs of everyone else's success by means of retals.
Unfortunately, I'm still a 2* player, so I can't really elaborate on it much, but I see a lot of people on Line doing it to get 1k with one or two shield - sometimes even none.0 -
I use hood/darken/cmags/doom and xforce and the featured. I start pvp as soon as the event starts because obviously you are going to run into health pack issues with hood. Once in a blue moon they will win a defensive match but I use them to get around 800 at which point it's exclusively hood/xforce from that point on for my shield hops because hood is essential for me to consistently beat xforce/4hor.0
