Too early for Thanos

i hope I don't ramble long but I feel the need to explain why I believe there isn't yet room in MPQ for such powerful characters. We all want these pinnacle characters (Thanos, Silver Surfer or Dark Phoenix and the like) but how could they be introduced realistically? I understand we already forgive a lot when we say that GSBW can match a color and equal a blow from The Hulk but can we really forgive the same disparagey when it's between the Invisible Woman and Galactus? I understand certain strength balances will be rectified when we get a few more 4 star versions of some 3 star favorites but until then how do we even begin to classify such an overpowered character? Please save the "Squirrel Girl" argument for another thread. I don't care if she beat Thanos icon_e_smile.gif

Would we forgive an actual 5 star cover or three? We currently don't have boss battles Beyond the beginners storyline to exploit or even characters that take up more than one "active Roster slot" but I've hoped for it for a while. How sweet would it be to have them as a character with 4-5 colors worth of powers and double the standard life that takes two roster slots!?

Anyway, Ramble Over

What if the 5* characters had only one high-AP but high powered ability?

I think you're right that a super character like Thanos or Galactus would be imbalancing right now. The have-have not split is bad enough now with Thorverine. The time to introduce something beyond 4* would probably be at the point where a huge chunk of the game population is running the same fully-leveled top tier characters.

Another what if: what if Thanos/Galactus were 4*s designed to combat 4hor or X-force?

    Food for thought....

It's never too early or too late to give us the Mad Titan!
  • I could see Thanos being an unreleased character in nodes such as Devil Dino was for a while. I don't think the game is ready for his release to players however it would be cool if he was a featured character in a node that maybe dropped a special team up as a reward.

I have been interested in two ideas for a while now. One is like you said having stronger characters taking up mroe than one roster slot. Another is being allowed an additional roster slot in PvE boss fight nodes for future PvEs. Perhaps in the survival nodes even. There is a problem with the first idea. Any single character can easily be repeatedly stunned to become useless. Any multi-slot character would need to be immune to stuns, or it wouldn't matter how much HP they had or how strong their attacks were. That right there would make multiple characters useless against them, which would be annoying. Imagine wanting to use Rogers but having effectively only his red shield to use because stun doesn't work and he would never get enough yellow. Or Daredevil or Spiderman losing out on their stuns. Or Thoress, or 2 star Storm. Or Gamora. So many characters would lose out on one of their abilities if you removed stun. But there is no way to make a multi-slot character actually useful against stuns.

Only idea I could see working is if a special Infinite Star ranking was introduced and using them would mean you're going solo against a team of three.
So if you pick Galactus, that's your lot. They'll have lots of HP, obviously, but stil only three powerful attacks. Maybe four to give them that extra sense of power and desirability.

So they function as a team of three all in one package. You'll never have a rainbow with them and if they go down you're done, but it would give the sense of scale and power you'd need for such a character. Would be silly teaming Thanos up with two others.
  • Certain bosses in some of the Shin Megami Tensei games get to take multiple actions per turn and I don't see why that couldn't be a way to allow for some superboss type characters in MPQ - make them enemy-only (can't recruit), take up 2-3 slots on their team, massive health, take 2-3 "turns" per turn. Now a 2-turn stun would still work, but it would only wipe out effectively one enemy turn.

For some really insane superboss fights maybe even a reverse survival mode where you could set like 8 characters to fight against this massive overpowered enemy and as soon as one of your characters drops, another steps in to keep fighting. That would feel so epic!

you could create a totally new game mode to incorporate a Superboss like Thanos or Apocalypse. It could be something like a reverse survival node mechanism.

    - twice weekly event pitched for 3-4* transitioners
    - You would have to pick 3 waves of 3 characters (or more accurately 1 wave of 8-9 characters).
    - Your 9 vs 1 OP Mad Titan with an infinity gauntlet (3 abilities that can vary depending on AP à la Fury yellowflag.png )
    - Winning bags you a 4* cover, ISO & HP

Anyone who has read Starlin's Infinity Gauntlet will know how much sense this will make and will know
not to put poor Cap first :(

Although a Superboss mode would be really cool I can't see it happening anytime soon. Unfortunately The Infintiy War movies are slated for 2018-19, so there is little chance we will get Thanos until just before then, and even though Apocalypse has been set up at the end of the Days of Future Past movie, that's not MCU and introducing him I can imagine would be conflicting. Galactic would seem out of left field to introduce without a major expansion in Marvel Cosmic characters.
  • You know actually this is the best time for him if they give him the right powers. If he gets the right powers of course something like star lord but instead of reducing ap needed, he could unbuff(ex. from 166 to 100) a foe and deal damage and buff a friendly character and heal them at the same time another cool ability would be to take the form of a foe and be able to trigger a foes ability and reduce that ap from the enemy and of course he's got to have a passive to destroy a certain amount of tiles and deal damage every time someone makes a certain color match. But maybe you are right it might be too early for a cool character like this.

I think this would be an amazing idea! Even if they would limit the rosters to actual comicbook fights (ie mags, colossus, and the rest of magnetos x-men -vs- apocalypse or the avengers -vs- ultron) It would add more depth to the game and would be an interesting way to introduce the 3-4* transition for those needing it. It would probably be weekly but it could be great.

I doubt it's possible or plausable form a coding and develoment standpoint, but I'd almost suggest a "cosmic" tier, which would also give all those players who have had maxed xf/gt forever and don't have anything to play and strike for other than new charecters something to do as well as an oppertunity to indroduce different modes, or zones.

Then you could introduce powerhouses like Dr Strange, Adam Warlock, Silver Surfer, the Inhumans, some x-men, ect against baddies like Galactus, Thanos without messing the rest of the existing meta game up.

The comsic tier would be like the next "zone" or tier where charecters introduced in that teir couldn't drop down to mess up or squew current pvp / pve events (expecially since they'd all be so powerful), but would have them battling at a higher tiers, but you could take your 3* and 4* that aren't cosmic tier up to that level, and maybe they could be boosted for events, or like a 3* Thor ect and have just enough power to hold on at the cosmic tier.

Then you'd get a cosmic pvp/pve where you would fight more than xforce/thor becuase those 2 still may be good, but they are no longer the top of top tier.

It would be refelctive of the MU in the sense that when you get huge crazy cosmic battles cap or spidey may be involved, but they are just dabling often and a clearly dealing in a power level well beyond thier usual day to day world saving. Some charecters just wouldn't be able to cut it at a cosimic level and you don't see them in the MU fighting at that level and in game those players wouldn't be effective against the powerhouses.

Just a daydream, and introduces a lot more problems than sollutions, but I think it would be pretty fun and address the issue of adding some charecters we all want being able to easily mop the floor with some existing charecters.
