Just another topic about TU...

I really hate Team-Ups, I never liked this feature in the first place. It adds nothing to the game, i'll say more - TU makes strategy/tactic even less revelant - for examples: when you're facing OBW, her purpleflag.png is somewhat balanced by her low HP (not really, but it's another discussion) - so you can take her out before she steals your AP, or versus tank with costly strong ability, say icon_blackpanther.pngblackflag.png - you usually bring one with at least decent skill in that color.
But with these (OP) powers as Team-Ups it's completely different thing - there is no reliable way to deal with it - you need to prepared that AI will most likely use them, which can be game over vs overscaled nodes when every match can be matter of life and death.
So are you with me or do you like TU?

Same, from day one, always hated TU, by the time I use them, the game is over but AI fires it 90% of the time. sucks
  • Hated them when they came out. Hate them now. Wish they would go away.

There are so many things they could have done that would have been smarter than how they just pulled powers off of the characters and colors that, at least in theory, work to balance them. Environments weren't so broken that they couldn't have been fixed. Desert and Jungle just needed to be toned down and others like Latveria and everyone's favorite Hot Dog Stand needed a boost. That doesn't mean you chuck the whole system for some half-assed "team-up" thing.

If they were going to do some kind of team centered bonuses, they should have done something like Marvel Ultimate Alliance did, where making teams of Avengers or X-Men or Martial Artists gave you bonuses. It might even have helped some of the underpowered characters get a little more use if they were components of good team bonuses. Opens up far more interesting possibilities than just ripping powers off characters, making them an expendable resource, and smashing the whole mess onto another pseudo-color.
  • Team-Up Improvements

    - You can now send up to five Team-Ups to your Alliance members at a time (up from three).
    - You can continue to play with characters even if you’ve sent them away as Team-Ups.
    - When you earn a Team-Up from a PVE mission/Versus node, its power is raised to the average level of your four best characters.
    - The max level of a Team-Up is limited to the max level that character could have if they were in your roster when scaled up.
    - Team ups will never *scale down*. So an overlevelled Team-Up will stay overlevelled. It is only Team-Ups that scale up that are capped at rarity level max.
    - If the average level of your four best characters is lower than the Team-Up’s original level, you’ll get the Team-Up at its original level.- When you enter a mission, any empty Team-Up/Boost slots are filled with random available Team-Ups from your inventory.
    - Starting Team-Ups updated for new players.

I have mixed thoughts about them, but lean toward the negative.

    The positives:

Getting very high level team ups by beating overscaled PvE nodes is fun, as is being able to use them for other overscaled PvE nodes

Having a real way to help team-mates is a good idea. Once R72 comes out and sending a TU to a mate doesn't prevent you from using the character this may be good

Holding onto those WHALES TU's when I didn't have a decent Deadpool so I had an emergency way to deal with the last couple Gauntlet nodes was good

    The negatives:

I tend to think of the AI TUs as a health tax that my team has to pay. Over the course of the match the AI will get their TU off 9 times out of 10 unless I'm heavily boosted, and I can't really prevent it. Maybe I bring Loki and get some lucky Mischief to steal their TU AP, but that's about it. Hood doesn't help, OBW doesn't help.

Of course sometimes the AI TUs don't matter because they have All Tied Up, but sometimes I know I'm going to get crushed by a Wind Storm or RoTP. I suppose I could consider the TU and decide to skip PvP matches that have nasty TUs, but it is already enough to consider enemy team composition without also having to worry about their TU.

I seldom use my TUs. If I'm winning a fight I have no reason to use a good TU, since it might not be replaced with anything nearly as good. They are really only something I pull out when I am in trouble. So they get used against me in 90% of my fights, and I use them in 10% of my fights. That's pretty not-fun.

    Overall:

The fun parts of TUs are winning them and being able to help newer players in the alliance with them. Maybe it would be more fun to send the TUs you win to other players in your alliance instead of sending characters on your roster. Then 2* players could be going into fights with Level 300 TUs. And if the player doesn't bring any TU's the AI doesn't get one either, and TU tiles get a standard not-powerful skill like turning 6 TU AP into 1 AP of each basic color.

I appreciate that it adds a layer of strategy to the game, and that it's something that has be designed to increase alliance engagement. However, the idea seems poorly conceived in general. As already mentioned, characters' abilities are often balanced by other aspects of the character such as health, and having TUs exist by themselves completely ignores this aspect of balancing.

However it is a thing that exists so one should take full advantage of it, just like any other broken unbalanced thing in this game, if one wants to do well at the game.

I was going to ask for the March Q&A, when can we expect to see Enviromentl Tiles make a return.
After seeing the most recent update notes I can see that the answer is never.
  • Can't stand team ups and would much rather have environmental tiles back. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of sharing or more specifically trading but team ups are pretty much useless and I almost never need them. Like another posted said, my team ups are usually powered near the end of the match where as the opponents normally have them powered after a few moves or mid match at worst.
  • I don't mind TUs. I use them. I barely ever seek out TU tiles but wind up having 11 or 12 TU AP at some point or other. 6 TU Juggernaut board shakes can come in quite handy. TU stuns are also handy. Back when drop rate was 100% I would have 3-5 venom stuns at any time in my bank.

With the coming "you can still play characters you sent as TUs" I could see more TUs becoming relevant as gifts from your alliance. Captain America comes to mind, if you can convert 11 tutile.png into 10 redtile.png you basically should win the match.

I do wish they would up the drop rate from it's mere 16% to something reasonable to using one every match tho. I understand you are supposed to beg for team ups from your alliance, but surely upping the rate to something like 40% (50% of the 80% it checks after no boosts drop) wouldn't break the system. The AI has an unlimited supply of TUs it continues to use one a match for basically, why can't I have that?

wow, and i thought i was the only one who hated team-ups. but if i'm totally honest, i don't hate them because they break the game, or are unfair, or ruin gameplay or anything like that. for the most part, they're even and transparent.

i just hate them because i always get tinykittied at the worst possible moment by them. yes, i know how much TU AP the other team has, and what TU they have. but still.

they do boost alliance camaraderie though. some people are nice enough to spend HP on roster spots just to keep a choice power to send as TU's.

i dont neccesarily hate then but i liked the enviroment tiles alot. but i reallly doubt they will be taking out the team up tiles any time soon because of the hge amount of characters since the change who have a power that revovles around team up tiles.

in my opinion they shouls add another color. to increase color diversity. i dont think it will be game changing in any way,

    white
    orange
    silver

but honestly i hope they bring the enviroment tiles back, i ndont understand why they left, i understand they are trying to reinforce the ideal of a "Team" but there are other ways to do so. an example is creating a team of three, i dont need a special tile to know that.

I like them. I like having a 'fourth' teammate. My only issue with them is the extra time it takes to equip one after it gets dropped off because you had a fight in PvE against the same character.
