Cascade damage?

I have noticed recently that during cascades, the cascading matches don't do as much damage as the original match. I think I've seen a 3-gem match that was part of a cascade do as little as 27 damage (with level 94 OBW and the computer didn't have any shields). Has this always been the case and I just didn't notice or is this something new?

Each wave in a cascade has diminishing returns, I'm pretty sure it's been that way since I started - or at least for quite a long time. That being said, I dunno about you, but I barely even pay attention to that lol so I could see how it'd be easy to miss at first.
  • Match damage is reduced by 25% per cascade (e.g. 5th match in a cascade will only deal 0.75^4~32% damage). The damage reduction is necessary to curtail the impact of very long lucky cascades. The penalty will be applied even if multiple matches are made in one move; the colored match for the tile that was moved will then count as the first match in a cascade in this case.
