Matchmaking Still a Problem as of DC Rd. 2

I have been playing DC Rd. 2 for 36 hours now. I have risen as high as 600 played on five of the nodes consistently and over the whole time I have seen the same 12 players offered as opponents. I have cycled through all of them twice now including the low value targets. What is there for me to play against? The same 12 players still.

I just wanted to post this so the devs know that whatever tweak they have added to matchmaking for this round has placed me on the worst MMR island I have ever been on.

I know they're working on it but this tweak has absolutely killed this tourney for me as I have done everything I can think to break this bubble and can't get out so I'm done for the rest of this tournament. If there was a 1 ISO skip tax I probably would have blown through 1k looking for a different opponent......and failed for that cost.

I have said it before I am not against the skip tax but first and foremost Matchmaking has to be fixed and as of right now for me this is the worst it has ever been.

  • Yea, it's a complete mess. I think part of the problem is that a huge mess of people are stuck in the 400-600 range and can't get out,

Based on the other threads I think this is true. What confuses me is with this large population of potential opponents the matchmaker keeps giving me the same ones I had from the moment I entered. I think each tournament contains a tweak and at least for me this time the tweak is not working.

That was the problem I was encountering in DC Rd 1. Stuck in the same loop with the same people - we were all trapped in MMR purgatory lol. It's seriously broken and each attempt at addressing the issue seems to make it more frustrating. Would be nice for an insider view of whether the developers feel it is an issue or not.
  • I still don't understand why it insists on 9 times out of ten giving me opponents who have 200 points less than me, why would I ever want to fight anyone for 11 points and then have them retaliate against me for 40? The simplest change they can make is to have it only show people from above you wherever possible.

I feel your frustration bc I am in the same boat. I'm thinking its bc there are very few if any targets a few hundred above you. Every one seems stuck in the same range. Glad I dont need any of the progression rewards as its impossible for me right now to crack 1200 unless I care to lose 600.

Matchmaking from DC1 to DC2 has been night and day different for me. I was able to get to 1200 with ease in the first round. I guess it was lucky as there were a lot of people that rocketed up to the top and then tanked. That made my ascent quite easy! Now I can't get to 600. I agree with the others that I'm just seeing the same matchups constantly. Most of which are way too difficult and not all that rewarding (~10-15pts) just to be knocked back 30+ per loss. It's puzzling to me how I know I'm pulling opponents that are outside of my group since we have similar points but don't see them on the leaderboard, but yet I still see the same opponents.

On a side note, I don't get why they want to nerf Thor yet they feature him in this tourney. I would think they could just not feature him, thus not allowing him to be buffed and not overpowering a la Wolverine. If they want to strengthen 3 stars, maybe they should be the target of buffs or have a 'buff attribute' multiplier that's higher for when they are featured, similar to the critical/environmental multiplier.
  • At this point I play PvP for ISO only... I fight 3 battles of +12, +13,+12 then I get hit by -41 or so EVERY time... I literally just break even as I hover around the same score...
  • Yea I am stuck like the OP. It's very frustrating. I can't move forward because I'm to busy moving backwards

I'm hitting this same wall - only 1 out of every 20 of my matchups is worth more than 20 points, and I'm constantly being attacked by people with 200+ fewer points than I have. It's so hard to gain any ground right now - one person in my bracket has cracked 700, and they're back down to sub-600. Top spot is sitting at 630 and we're all starting to shield up already.

Might try to make another push in the last hour or so, but it's just not worth grinding out 15 point teams for no net gain.

I had the same issue and I was as high as 670 but still getting the same group. Never got to see anyone over 500 points and I wasnt even close to first so there were targets available to give me but instead I got the same individuals I saw at 400 but now they are worth 9-12 points.

    Anyone got over 1000?

I've been really close a few times. There was one instance where I completed a match that would have pushed me to 1005 only to be greeted by a -80.
The matchmaking and scoring changes suck rocks.

Realize that doing this will skyrocket your mmr, if it isn't already capped.

The guy at the top of my bracket is around 1250. He has also shielded...I think 4 different times.

o god that sucks. IMO cap the lost to -40!
Perhaps when you shield put in the worst lineup when shielded yo allow others to build up on your points. Also if you are seeing the same person. Repeatedly beat them, they can only retaliate once icon_e_wink.gif

Exactly - Skip tax is going to be a bummer. They are trying to make the shields more needed I think. We will attack folks with lower points to avoid the iso hit and then get smacked for it if we don't shield. When I'm hit by a high level team I gleefully retaliate for the big points to point out why they should have left me alone. If I am online when attacked they won't even have a chance to shield.

In DC Rd 1 I was pretty easily able to shoot up to 1800 (didnt have energy to hit 2400 although it wouldnt have been hard) but now I bounce up and down between 550 and 700. I see the same people over, and over, and over. I played about 1:45 last night, in three blocks over about 7 hours, and each time I saw the same people. At one point I skipped about 15-20 times and had one person (MomBeaterPrime) show up 5 times. Eventually I just started hitting them over and over even though I was only gaining 20-24 pts per fight because they were the only target I saw over 20. The saddest part was that they stayed in the same point range because they were active, but getting dragged/forced down by me and I was getting hit by others even lower that kept me from getting ahead of them.

I will have no problem with the skip tax......as long as they fix things like that first.

Some, but it doesn't seem to be many. Top of my bracket was in the 600s and shielded, last I looked, and had been for ages. A better question would be how many cleared 1000 without shielding to do it in separate runs? They've fiddled with progression HP awards yet again (increased 1000 back to 100, dropped 50 back to 400 rating), so presumably not enough people were willing to shell for 8hr+ shielding at current price/award ratio. Would also explain the widespread low scores this tournament.

It's "cheap" compared to buying the awards you're accumulating by doing it, but I can't see spending up to 1000 HP on shields being workable in more than one tournament out of four or five, with progression and placement awards amounting to 100-250. What do they think I'm going to do, spend money on them? Are they crazy? It does somewhat encourage viewing dupe 3*s as currency to fund/reimburse shield expenditure. Three-hours are a bit different - they're basically for late pushes if you're conscious and available in the closing hours.

Hopefully they won't implement until this is resolved. I'd be more supportive of a skip tax for those that are close in points to you. Perhaps make the tax cost less/go away if there is a large difference in points and higher if there is a similar number of points in the opponent.
