If 2 characters have the same color strength, how does the game decide who tanks the color?

For instance, I mistakenly leveled 2* Storm to 94 and now she tanks everything, even over the likes of Thor and Ares for green! She dies all the time now and has become almost useless. Granted that her combo is best used with 2* Magneto but I'd like to use her for any 2* team without her being in front, such as Daken's blue.

I have read that if you have the character in the middle, they'll tank, but I also saw the right side. What is the correct spot or it doesn't matter?

Characters tank colors based on their match damage in a color.

A character with 40 damage in green will always tank green over a character that does 39 damage on a green match.

For characters who tie the positioning matters and it goes like so: Middle character > Left character > Right character
Characters placed in the middle will tank all ties.

Placed correctly Ares should tank green for storm if they are both the same level, but thor will not.

When there is a tie the spot matters. The character in the middle when you set up your team has the highest priority (at least on the PC version). Then the character on the left, and then the one on the right.

As it was said before by GothicKratos here, every character has a decimal on match damage that is hidden and not used for damage calculation. It doesnt really matters the position on ties, only that hidden decimal.
