So in the current Divine Champions round I'm fielding the folllowing team and am sitting at around 1200 points (or i was)

Ares lvl 83 4/4/5
Classic Storm lvl 81 5/5/3
Thor lvl 75 3/5/5 (yes i know i built him wrong)

I just got hit 5 times in about 3 minutes by jacobpc for about 200 points total

his team is as follows

Loki lvl 60
Ragnarok lvl 115
Magneto (Classic) lvl 24 (unbuffed obviously)

Now this does seem quick to be hit by someone with that team, although there could be lag

but that's not what puzzles me here...I was hit on the Modern Storm node, which I haven't fought on at all...I've barely developed this character and eventually sold her off for a roster spot, i do have her on my roster now, although at a level 1. I don't remember being attacked on any nodes that I hadn't fought on during the first tournament

I can't even retaliate.

Is this intentional? i realize they may want us to develop more well rounded teams so they spread the retaliations to different nodes on your board forcing you to use different characters but this is a bit extreme, all his attacks were on that spot. I'm also wondering if he was attacking a team of mine (one including a level one modern storm) that i never fielded.

Since he's at the same level as me I'd love to attack him back and deter him from this, as my core team with buffs is stronger (and faster) than his. But I can't because that would involve trotting out a level one modern storm instead of my level 81 classic storm.

I think alot of us are in agreement that the matchmaking needs tweaked so you can't just get pounded by one individual far below you in points. I'm hoping everyone can agree that it needs tweaked so you can't get pounded by one person and have no real way to retaliate.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

  • There has been multiple times of the past weeks people have complained about that player. He was questioned about it in the suggestions forums about it and wrote a big pile of bull-pucky of his strategy...I for one did not buy it. That team he hit you with does not have the offensive power to take down a buffed health team in 1 minute or so (since the Rag nerf)
  • It was like that for the Widowmaker tournament as well. It's intentional, as far as I can tell. Those with more characters developed are being rewarded in this format. I just skip retaliations on a node where I'm weak, and make up the points elsewhere. Overcoming the point deficit with or without this format is the same strategy, however - apply shields directly to the forehead, or play in off-hours to minimize the number of people hitting you back, or both.

From what I could gather, a big part of his advantage is also playing on PC - similar to a PC gamer taking on a console gamer in Counterstrike. The animations are faster, and there's no fat-fingering the wrong match or having to drag the interface around to check AP amounts or switch targets reliably. I'm sure that helps a great deal (not sure, I play only on iPhone), but not totally convinced it explains the constant bulldozing. I like to imagine he lives in one of those Korean Starcraft pro-training houses and exercises his clicking fingers with weights.

Oh yeah, and he's roommates with thereck.
  • For me at least, I let the board fill out with retals and only skip or fight the ones on the node that you are playing on. They will queue up once the board is full and you can take them as they rotate into your chosen node.
  • I play on PC , and have played on an Ipad ... animations are not that huge of a difference. PC does have the edge ,but not shaving that amount of time off of fights.

Edit: Loki and Mag have some of the longest animations for skills there is.

That's impossible. With a lot of luck two times would be doable. Three if he had a lvl 100ish Magneto (or got veeery lucky with cascades) but not with a lvl 24 Magneto.
Loki doesn't have any high damaging abilities, he depends on pure luck with cascades. Ragnarok after nerf is slow and doesn't do much dmg either. Magneto has high dmg capability but not at this lvl.
So he would've to kill your team mostly with dmg through matching tiles and, even with a buffed Ragnarok, that would take a while to go through the roughly 22k health of your team.

EDIT: Just logged in and skipped until I found a team with a lvl 115 Ragnarok. His green does about 500 dmg, his red around 1900. Not really game finishing killermoves.

The retaliation locations seem to be randomly placed. I got hit 6 times and it just filled up the 6 tiles.

You also just see his most recently played team. If he was out of health packs Magneto could be a filler for a big hitter your team dropped.
  • All the retaliations I see are placed around the globe. What is more than annoying actually, as I play a single team with Ares, and so can't retaliate at all practically. icon_e_sad.gif

About jabobpc, there were a lot of similar reports lately, I hope someone investigates the matter and will either ennounce that all is legit so we can put it to rest, or something else appropriate.

A also doubt the team you listed can kill the other consistently within such short time.

Though I never played with loki -- the ability that reshuffles the board might be capable to put tiles in some pattern that causes a major explosion or cascade.
  • He hit me twice in 2 minutes too. I had black widow 2* 85, Thor 60, Ares 80.

I feel it's too fast, but it might be server update lag.
