Help making 1k in pvp

So my last two pvp's I've had some problems with treadmill play. I have a 221 X force, cover maxed, max hood, and now max cap for the hood event. I get to about 800 earlier. I shield, no problem. Break shield in three hours, attack one player, get 20 points. "You have been attacked!" -50 points. O.k., I'll just find another good point character. There we go, got 25 points! You lost 26 points while you were attacking.

...

O.k., lets go until health packs are up.

+25, -23, +20, -24, +27

Riiiiight.

Shield up.

Wash, rinse and repeat.

So at this point, this feels well, like I'm in a hamster wheel. I think my roster is pretty awesome here, but I don't seem to have a chance. Am I doing shielding wrong? Should I wait for a certain time of the day? What the hell is this **** deal?

  • Well, IMO, speed is the biggest factor during the hops so if you feel your first match after breaking shields took a little too long I just go ahead and shield again if I don't think trying to squeeze another match in is worth it. That's if I'm up in the 850+ region. I will get 2 matches in during my hops, using boosts, and 3 if I got lucky with cascades and blew through one of those matches quickly and it's fairly a long way away from the end of match. If you find yourself breaking shields, and getting hit almost immediately, it's either random luck that someone else out there happened to hit you exactly when you broke shields or you got sniped. Plus the popular times that everyone else breaks shields are the obviously 3 hour and 8 hour intervals from end of event. That's my approach, and it isn't a cake walk by any stretch. Try to make the most of those 2 battles by queuing up high point targets while your shielded. Also, if I'm in the 900+ area, I sometimes even play it safe and only do 1 match in the hops.

Hm. Yeah, Cap is safe, but not speedy. Even X-Force can't chew through X-Thor combos fast either. Well that's dissapointing. I've been prepping up for the 4 transition, and it appears it was all for nothing. Perhaps it's bad luck for me then. Its incredibly discouraging to play when you feel utterly powerless. Maybe its time I go elsewhere. If I have to shield hope every 1-2 matches, that kind of kills all the fun in the game.

You should only play 2 matches per hop after ~800 points, 1 match after 900 points. Spend the time you have periodically skipping looking for matches worth 40+ points.

Make your push to 1k early so you have time to make a later push if you lose a match or get attacked a lot.

Hm, it would be nice to just get a shot in without being attacked at the same time. But let see, at 20 points a pop in pvp, that's 10 fights.

5 to get to 900, so three shields

Then 5 shields to get to 1k

Alternating between 3 and 8 hour shields thats...4*75+4*150=900 hp.

About 3000hp for $20 dollars =150hp a dollar. So about $6 dollars a 4* cover if everything goes perfectly.

I guess its pay to win from now on. Not worth it anymore. Oh well, thank you for the help!

you need to be skipping to find higher value targets
  • First of all you've to figure out what the masses perceive to be a strong team and currently that is X Force + Thor. It doesn't matter that I had more losses against X Force + The Hood or X Force + Loki in general, I still get hit considerably less while running Thor. This has by far the biggest impact compared to anything you can do. Now if you don't have Thor then you don't have Thor and you got to live with that. In general I find that in a high scoring event (e.g. you can see your bracket already has several guys above 1000 so it's not like you're leading the pack) you can just keep on playing with X Force + whoever while boosted green/black and you'll eventually be able to hit 900 after enough random swings in points. At that point you should settle for 2 fights per shield and hpoefully you only need 2 to pick up 100 points, if not 3 should definitely be enough. It may take several hours before you finally get over 900 but eventually all the guys who normally hit you would happen to not be playing at that time. Of course if you don't have the time or can't win that reliably then you've to shield earlier, but I find it's pretty trivial to win almost continously running just green/black boosts with even just X Force, especially given you won't be seeing too many The Hood or Loki for the high point targets and those are the only teams that can possibly beat you because Thor + X Force + any featured that isn't The Hood or Loki is basically just like fighting X Force alone.

It's not unusual to see nothing worth more than 20 if you didn't check your targets against their true status due to the way the server lags behind on your opponent's score. Look for anyone in a top 10 scoring alliance and also anyone that's in your top 10 in your own bracket and use the score you see there because that's their true score no matter how little point they appear to be worth according to the screen.

Hm, I skip QUITE a bit and eventually it starts running lower, like about 14-11 points from the 20's. How much skipping do you need?! Further, the idea of playing one or two games, shielding, then going elsewhere 8 times in a row sounds tedious and unnecessarily expensive. Why not just charge me 900 hp for the cover then? Its not really skill, its just money and forced stilted gameplay.

Look for time slices where top alliances hang out. though I've been in a few different ones that worked, bhut slice 5 is always safe.

Climb to 800 or more if you can until you run out of health packs or start getting hit and shield up. Periodically skip some nodes, it's worth putting in the iso to get 30+, 40+ targets who are less likely to retal. In fact, from around 700 points more or less you should be able to find 30+ targets already, just keep skipping.

Because you're in the slice with high value targets, you also become less attractive and get targeted yourself less often. Boost to get through the matches as fast as you can and shield. I usually do 2, 3 if I'm feeling less of a scaredy kitty than usual (Cage Match).

Never use the loaner. Puts a huge target on your back. So far my easiest climbs whether or not I'm trying for 1k have been when I have a high level featured.

So far I've made 1k a couple times on one 3hr and 1 hr shield, at 225hp cost. Once had a match go bad or got hit and had to put in an extra 3hr shield, total 300hp.

I tend to break for one or two free matches right at the end if needed, but there's a risk of getting hit by other cheaphoppers, so you might prefer to stick to the 3/8/3 schedule to be safe.

Not sure about lcap, he's ap cheap but slow.

At shieldhop range I usually go Xf with hood (defensive ap drain and big shooty fun) , doom (accelerates surgical), Lthor (speeds cots or xf depending), or DP (slice slice xf whales!) depending on the opponent team.

    Good luck!

Check for opponents periodically during your shield, not just when you want to fight
