how much to level 3* without affecting 2*

I think I read this somewhere but can't seem to find it again. I have finally acquired some 3* that are decently covered to start leveling them up, but I don't want to kill my pve scaling as I still really heavily on my 2*'s. How high can i level my 3* to give me some extra fire power without losing my 2*'s reliability?

About level 166.0

I'm lost...how is leveling my 3's to 166 going to keep my scaling low enough to keep using my 2's in pve?0
-
Yea... not sure I buy that. Anyway....
I know I've heard of people who keep even their 13 cover 3*s at 94 to prevent the PvE baseline from rising. The level at which a 3* has about as much power as a 2* in terms of powers and match damage is 100. Also a nice round number.
Of course once you get the ISO and the covers to max a guy or 2 at 166 I'd recommend doing that and taking the plunge into the big boy pool, but that's just me.0 -
Why not just use the 3star characters in pve then? Scaling is intended to provide a challenge at every level, so in theory it wont matter how high you are. Practice shows it's not that simple but still, having decent 3stars wont make pve unplayable in any way.0

That theory is just not true at all. Sure it won't make pve 'unplayable', but once you raise your levels on your 3* it becomes harder to use any non 3* in pve simply due to match damage. This totally limits the combinations and depth of your roster in pve. People want to win.0 -
What 3* are they? That would make a huge difference as to if you level them or not.0

It was always my understanding that keeping roster levels down limits your scaling, but as more info is being accumulated, it seems it's more of a product of how you use your roster than how it is built.
Anyway, I have a 206 XForce, a 166 LThor/LCap, a first page all 124 and above, and I still regularly use OBW for PvE, plus will use cStorm/Ares if they're boosted. I can't use those guys for the hardest of nodes, but scaling otherwise is usually low enough that they aren't just cannon fodder.0 -
I kept my 3stars at 110 while I collected covers and added more to the 110 pool. At that point, they have slightly better health and slightly better match damage. I still had no problems using my 2 stars on every node of PvE. Once I had a diverse group that I was happy with I started moving them up.
At 120, I could no longer use my 2stars on the harder PvE nodes and now at 138, my 2stars are relegated to Deadpool Daily or the easy/trivial nodes. But I have 15 fully covered (or one cover short) to play the hard nodes with, so I am still fine.0 -

That theory is entirely true.
On my paying account I have 270's, yet use my 2 stars for the majority of the event for every PvE. The only time I use 3/4 stars is for the essential nodes and to finish each sub with a super quick grind. By using 2 stars through the majority of the event I keep my performance scaling low and keep my A-Team healthy for the simultaneous PvP events.
Playing this way, I've never seen an increase in starting levels from one event to the next or a significant difference in performance scaling during any event.0 -
I just use winfinite.0

They don't ever hit 230 for me except in crazy grindfests or if I get lazy and break out the a and b teams earlier than I should.
Yes, I take a substantive amount of damage, comparable to what you'd expect to take doing a Pve as an actual 2 star character.0
