How does PvP bracketing work?

An alliance mate and I entered into the Eye for Eye PvP at the same time for the same slice. We were placed into different brackets though. She was able to finish top ten. I had slightly less points than her (about 50-60 less) and finished #280
Why were we placed into a different brackets even though we entered at the same time

I was also the #508 person in my bracket so it's not that I happened to be the last person in my bracket.
if we enter at the same time for the same slice we should be in the same bracket. What am I missing ?

(don't know if "baby" brackets apply for PvP but neither one of us would be in those anyway )

Does anyone have have any insight as to why this happened? (it's happened several times too and I don't think I'm that unlucky)

Best as we can figure, at any given time there can be multiple brackets open for players of the same level; that is, assuming you and the other player are at the same level of play. Bracketing isn't completely disclosed, but it has to do with MMR and the number of people trying to join at any given time.

Yes me and my alliance mate are the same level
I didn't know they were multiple brackets open at a time. I assumed it was like PvE where the brackets fill before a new one is opened
So I guess I just am extremely unlucky icon_cry.gif

I'm pretty sure PVE has multiple brackets open at any given time too.

I know for PvE if I ever enter at the same time in the same slice as an alliance mate we are always in the same bracket
  • Note that your level seems to take into account your past event performance in the last 2 weeks or so. So even if your roster strength is the same, it makes a difference if you've been away from the game for awhile.
