Damage vs Healing vs Stun
After I leveled Black Widow (Original) to a decent lv she is always part of my team. The rest of the roster that is decently leveled includes Ares and Wolverine 2* so this is my main team. I use OBW because she allows me most of the time to leave a fight almost fully healed. Also her AP denial comes useful in both hindering the opponent and helping my other 2 heroes. If I didn't use her, then entering a fight with 1-2 heroes at 50% hp would mean the chances to win are significantly lower, or I run out of healing packs after 3-4 matches. However, from time to time I encounter teams that are focused entirely on offense with no heroes that can heal, or even stun a hero/team.
Obviously, Spiderman covers both stun and healing, but I have seen many teams without him. Also, stun abilities, other than Spiderman's which is ridiculously cheap, don't seem to be too consistent in order protect your heroes efficiently. I was hoping someone would help me understand how some of these teams fare in tournaments and why they are used. Are they the B-team of the players? Do you use them only during the end of a tournament to maximize the damage you deal and deal with downed characters using healing packs you have hoarded? Do you use them because the AI can't use properly healing/stun? Is there an ideal time to use a team like that, or most do because other characters are downed?

I tend to put in as "tanky" of a team as I can get by with using, in order to deviate attackers. Or I will go attack+tank+spidey as intended.0

I tend to put in an offensive team (Ares/Thorverine recently) to speed up my match cycle then use Spidey to heal up every 3-4 matches. Just because you dont see Spidey doesnt mean people arent using him.0

You can also get away with putting in Spiderman every few games because his stun/heal takes more time. So you can hit hard with tanks for a few quick wins and then heal them up in your next game or two. this is especially good for lightning rounds, where speed helps.0

With boosts you can often win with taking very little dmg. People boosting for rating may run with a full dmg team in order to progress faster.0

Thanks for the replies. It's difficult to accept that without any healing I wouldn't lose at least 1 hero each match. Usually, I use OBW as the main source of damage as she can deal 1-1.5k with each match after Wolverine drops 6-8 Strike tiles on the board. She tries to match blue and purple because she also steals 1 from her 5 Espionage and then use them to steal and heal. So far this is the most efficient way I have found to win matches with the 2* team. I guess when I have a decent Thor or a high health hero, like Ragnarok or Hulk I will try the most aggressive approach. Who would you suggest as the third wheel in a Wolverine/Ares Team-up?0

Anytime with featured characters that do not feature healers you should think of healing as nerfed by an equivalent %. In R&R heals are roughly 1/3 as effective (Ares does close to triple damage). In DC heals are roughly 1/2 as effective (DCs do roughly 100% more damage). This makes healing less valuable in these tournaments.0

Havnt done this myself, but in say the rage and ruin tourney, could you fight with buffed Ares for many matches, then heal him to max in say prologue which in turn heals his buffed form to max?0 -

Healing is healing because buff is a straight multiplier (multiplies health and damage). So if Ares was at 70% hp going in, he would be at 70% of his buffed health.0 -
I frequently run with my OBW. I work on grabbing blues/purples at the beginning of a match before the other team has any AP to use their abilities. Usually by the middle of the match she can either heal or steal, negating any damage she took while tanking and stealing back any AP I missed while gathering blues/purple. At the end of a match, if there's only one guy left, I'll milk him while I gather blues. Then I can go into the next match full/almost full health.
Also, if I'm going in against Hawkeye or somebody who does countdowns, I'll drag OBW along.
This new cruddy PVP made me care less about whether I win a match or not because I'm not really trying so hard to rank anymore. So I've stopped caring about going into each match with full health. Last night at the end of Round 1 Divine tourney, I was using CStorm/Ares/Thor. I just rolled into each match more and more dead. I got through about 4 matches before I needed to health pack and only Storm died once. This showed me that 1) I don't need OBW on my team and can instead use somebody like GS to potentially feed Ares green. 2) I don't need to be max health when I go into matches and worrying about that actually slows me down and undoubtedly costs me rank.0 -
Before having Spidy as part of my team (Still trying to max him level) I always put a tanker to absorb the damages to a certain points before I health pack him.
But no with spidey, which I didn't know how useful and deadly by combine the right character - he's just too amazing not to use. Even without boosts, I can still manage to heal back once I have enough gems and power to kill off the last character.
But I guess will have to see how bad is he once the nerf for him is coming.0 -

I did that some times, but in the prologue most matches that don't deal additional damage to you are encounters that have only H.A.M.M.E.R. troops and they all use countdown tiles which reduces the effectiveness of Widow's heal. So it depends on whether you are in the mood of spending the time to play 1-2 pve matches. Although if you are out of healing packs, it is a nice alternative. Spiderman would be even better, but I only have him at 3/1/0 so he isn't worth putting ISO on him at the moment (he is also going to change from what I know)0 -

At present, Spider-Man is very effective for Prologue healing. You have to weigh up whether the time lost doing this is worth it, but is surely better than burning through health packs. I expect this may be a thing of the past with the upcoming changes though.0 -
Spider-Man has missions that require (and loan) him where the only opponent is Venom to help with web tiles, and everything. Seems to have been an intended option, but inconvenient. I'd like them to come up with something slightly less stupid than 7-hour cooldowns on depletion of a health pack default stock that covers you for all of four unboosted matches to encourage spending money, but who cares what I'd like?
She obviously can't compete with puking 5 webs and popping a 10k team heal, but if OBW's your only usable option for this, the best missions to use as far as I can tell are the ones with Yelena and Maggia goons, because they auto-generate blue and yellow. If you're healing one at a time, IM40's handy in the third slot to turn the yellow into more blue, but will take blue matches away from Widow at level <I don't know>.
Only thing Yelena's likely to annoy you with is showing you what Payback Mission is supposed to be for if you pop Recharge when she has a pile of black. You need not to let Threaten go off if you do this on the maps where the mooks have it, though. If I could have one of those guys scaled to level 141 and playable, I'd jump at the chance.0 -
I use lvl 15 Magneto ** with 4 purple so it is 9 purple to get 4 blue tiles as I wish.0

If you need missions to heal, just find stuff like 3 pyro/grendier with the highest level possible. They should be pretty safe to lock down because they can only hit one color (green) and they have enough health that you're not worrying about accidentally killing them with just match 3s. Of course if you screwed up, you'd end up the fight with significantly less health than you started with. Usually 3000 HP combined is more than enough time to get you enough yellows to fire off Web Bandages without taking too much risk that you might screw up.0

As for the other suggestions about Magneto and Iron Man 40, the first is 3/0/1 and the second 1/0/0 so no luck there. BW will have to do until my luck changes. I better put Wolverine to good use while I can and earn some useful rewards, because after the nerf I doubt I'll play much with the current roster. I hope the next pve event will have some rewards I can use. My priority is a high health hero, although I can't see who I can get easily.0 -
Did you get an Ares while it was raining ancient Greek gods of war? He's tanky, and fairly good even unbuffed. Doesn't quite have Thor's chaining or damage, but then he's not about to get nerfed quite possibly half way through a tournament that features him.
Hulk's the most obvious tank, but I dunno when new covers for him will be easy to get hold of. Not many people have his black high yet. He's a bit rubbish, though. Doesn't even break 10k HP, which isn't that much to burst down, though we'll see if that still holds after the rebalancing is done, I suppose. You use him because he irritates people attacking you more than because you want to use him, and above moderate rating practically every team has Spider-Man propping it up, so he doesn't really even do that. Starting to think of him as ***Daken, and attacking teams that use him almost on principle in much the same way.0 -

Yeah, Hulk would be great to have if only as a body to absorb some damage, although mine is 2/0/0 so I am not considering him for the moment. DC was no fun at all for me. There were 2-3 times where Thor was the only one left with 80% hp and he destroyed my almost fully healed team in 3 turns. No crazy cascades or anything like that. His colors were each at 6-8 and apparently this is what buffed Thor needs to wipe the floor with you.
As a Greek player I couldn't miss the opportunity to grab Ares since they were so generous with his covers. I have him at lv65 4/4/5 and I am sitting on 30k ISO which I guess is what I need to max him. However that ISO looks so beautiful sitting there getting fatter and fatter. No, I will not part with it. It is mine. MINE!!! My precioussssss.0
