Decaying Boosts - Tournament idea

At the start of a tournament, all characters get a boost.
Each time a person uses a boost for a character, it decays for all users of that character. Say that it's Spiderman. After 500 uses, Spidey's boost is less powerful.
At some point, the Red gem for a boost turns into a green gem for a nerf if the character continues to be overused.
Within a day for this Tourney, Spidey / Thor / Ares / Hulk / Magneto / Wolverine 2* / Classic Storm will be in a crippled state, and the best teams will be using the characters that aren't used as much, since they'll still have boosts.
Every few hours, the strategies would be changing.

Interesting idea, and it would have the effect of encouraging people to play early before their favorite characters lose their boosts. I like it, although there are some issues with how to present the current state of the character in a way that lets me easily identify how boosted/nerfed a character is (just knowing he is boosted isn't quite enough -- is it a 1% boost or a 100% boost?)
Also there's an additional imbalance created on defense -- since defense always happens after offense, your characters are guaranteed to be less strong than when you first attacked someone.0 -
I like the idea with the exception of it effects ALL users. Maybe start with a 200% buff for each of you covers. Each time you use spidey you get 5-10% removed all the way to -50% original stats. The problem with these is you would run out of covers eventually or it would give huge advantages to people with the most leveled up covers. There would need to be some form of reset mechanism. Interesting concept though.0

My thought for why it should affect all players was the following:
"I'm tired of seeing the team X, Y, Z" --- (for example, C. Storm, Wolv 2*, Thor)
There wouldn't be any overused team in the middle of such a tournament ... if you did see them, they might be at just a third of their normal strength.0 -

Yeah I seen that and it's definitely a creative solution. I was just thinking of this scenario for my objection.
Hypothetically I have 3 maxed covers: Thor , wolverine, nightcrawler (cuz he's my fav! Haha)
I'm fairly new so all my other covers are >40 but I maxed those 3 1st due to forum advice.
The tourney starts at noon EST (while I'm at work). I make it home at 6pm EST and Thor and wolvie both have negative buffs by this point. Think of the feelings that would ensue.0 -
If they didn't boost so many covers in the tournament, the teams would have more diversity. As it sits, just go ahead and try to use 2 non-buffed covers and see how well you do. It should be set up that whatever bubble you pick (corresponding to thor, c.storm, etc) should be the only cover buffed.0
