Someone, please, bring me up to speed

So I started playing 7-10 ago after a 7 month break and the most obvious change with the game is the low scores in pvp. I ignored this in the first few pvp because I considered it logical. After all, since I enter in the last 1 hour I couldn't reach higher anyway. The problem is that after 550-600 I start seeing all these monster teams with Thorverine or other 3x*** with 10k health.

Can someone please explain the most important changes that have happened in the pvp, other than various finish times (best addition I have seen in the game so far - with Deadpool daily). From what I can tell, the shields cost the same (at least the 3h which I used yesterday). I can still get a top 5 by entering in the last hour, but anything higher than 650-700 seems impossible, as I experienced in the fist pvp I played and tried hopping.

  • Main change is shield cooldowns. Now you can't apply the same type of shield again until 8h have passed. That means a lot less shield hopping, which means much lower top scores, which trickles down to lower scores all round.

Other impact of shield CDs is the amount of time ppl spend unshielded is a lot less. So those high scores are a lot harder to find. Previously ppl were hopping every 30 mins to an hour to get silly scores but now you can only hop 3 times in 8 hours. So locating high value targets is a lot tougher.

That pretty much rounds up the reason icon_e_smile.gif.

You hit everything pretty much yourself, unless you missed Team-Ups or True Healing, but I'm pretty sure you didn't. There's time slices, the new shield cool downs (which came with a progression rewards rework), and Daily Deadpool.

If you want some minor details there's new goons (three new ninja goons), a new type of node (survival), and several characters have gotten reworked (Sentry, Hood, Hawkeye, cMags, Loki, Doom). As far as the reworks are concerned - Loki is considered top tier now, Doom is a good 3* now, cMags is a lot different but arguably better, Hawkeye is miles better than he was before, Hood's Yellow was really the only big change on his end making it always end the turn but do a little extra damage, and then Sentry basically got nerfed into the ground and then nerfed even further into the ground with shield cooldowns.

Oh, and Team-Up and Boost drops changed somewhere along the line. When you finish a node, there's a 20% chance of a Boost dropping, and if that was unsuccessful, there is a separate 20% chance a Team-Up from the opposing team will drop.
  • Had X-Force been buffed before you took a break? The other huge difference is the rise of 4*s as not only usable in PVP, but dominant. 4*s used to just be trophies; now X-Force and 4* Thor dominate PVP.
  • Thank you both. I was here when true healing was implemented. Same with Team-Ups. I missed the cooldown on shields. I used only 1 yesterday and didn't notice the time restriction. Daily Deadpool is a cool addition. Is there any change on pvp bracket entering? In the past it was based on the time you joined, then it was changed and it was possible you could enter a bracket with players already sitting at 600+. In the last 2 pvp, after my first match I was placed in a bracket where the #1 had 500+ and was shielded, so I assume that there have been no changes here (sadly). Can anyone confirm this?

Loki does seem very interesting now. I'll have to hunt for his green covers.

No, XF was trash back then. I experienced firsthand the new Thorverine power. Essentially, we are where we were last year around this time, only now Thor and Wolverine have 2 more *. Oh well, p2w ftw. icon_e_biggrin.gif

You're placed in a bracket when you pick a time slice now, so you can still join an event late, you just have to hold off on picking a time slice. Generally speaking, brackets are just filled and then a new one starts - if you check the events sub-forums there's normally a "my bracket's at /x/ amount of players" so you can better judge a fresh bracket. I've found the magic number is joining the last hour - you normally get mostly new players in your bracket, an hour is enough time to get at least 300, and placement is pretty simple. I've gotten three covers doing this five times now? Usually I get two covers.

Thanks. I usually join the last hour and manage to climb to 500-600 (boosted in several matches) so I've had 3 top 5 in the last 3 pvp. Maybe I am getting easy teams because I was away for 7 months, but joining very late has been very effective for me. Now, if only I could get a #1 for my last black XF, that would be nice.

This is possible, I noticed something very similar about a two month or so hiatus.
