With so much talk about weekly events, i feel the S.H.I.E.L.D. versus ladder doesn't get a lot of love. So here's some love for it.

How often do you guys play in it? What's your rank?

I'm ranked 2500. I hardly ever play, but I think I got to 600 points once. I feel like next week I might try to make a run.

Comments

  • I used it before to get ISO.. With the change in rewards, there's not much point to go further in it.
  • Currently ranked 3rd. Play it every now and then, can be a good place to pick up easy 70 and 140 iso-8's - it appears that not all that many people pay attention to this area, so you often stumble across pretty easy match-ups. Even if they retaliate and take a good chunk of points off you, it's not all that much of a big deal, with no ultimate prize at the end of it all to play for.

I think that raises the question, what could make it more appealing?
  • for the past week or three, the top was like 1500 and won't budge so it begs to question the high level rewards and when we'll reach it
  • I play it now and then but with all the great tournaments and events the devs have been adding that have time limits, it just doesn't make sense to invest heavily in the SHIELD event.

It's nice to have somewhere where you can always go to PVP and pick up ISO with a bit less stress. There's already enough going on, I'm impressed with how there is nearly always a timed event or two up.

Quick question, is the Shield room a zero-sum game at higher levels? As in, does the loser lose the same points as the winner gets?

If not, then as long as the game keeps growing there will be more points in the system, which (I think) makes the higher rewards more attainable for newcomers. I think that for free-to-play accounts the chance to grab two Classic Spiderman covers and 3 x 500 Hero Points is a pretty big draw, although it's going to take a loooong time to get there.

Maybe there could be a rare "3-star" reward for winning battles in the SHIELD room? Maybe a random chance at either a large ISO-8 award, a standard recruit token, or an heroic token? This would encourage more play without making it too cut-throat.

I'd say if they made the points like the "Unstable ISO" event except kept it PvP; basically make it so that we can't lose points for being attacked. It would be a straight climb. It would probably require a reward adjustment as well but if you couldn't lose points, there's no reason why they shouldn't have rewards up into the tens of thousands of points as people would get there eventually. icon_e_smile.gif

    Firstly it's S.H.I.E.L.D

Secondly, The Ladder is a member of S.H.I.E.L.D

I use it as a place to try out heroes that I normally would never use. It's fun to try to win a battle against a superior foe with default level X-Force/Invisible Woman/level 20 Black Panther, even if just to see the animations you've never seen. And if you lose? Well, you just helped your MMR be just a little bit less nasty.
  • Duee fact that there's always an event going with better rewards, it isn't worth it to rack up MMR points for a comparatively negligible amount of ISO.

I stopped as the progression rewards were not compelling by the time i started to invest time to move up the ranks. For example the rewards from 1100 to 1500 are for C Hawkeye covers. The ROI just isn't there.

I usually tank/try out various teams there but a few weeks ago I was in severe HP shortage thanks to the Unstable Iso event not having meaningful HP rewards. And I needed HP to shield in the ongoing PvP tourney just in case, because the final moments can be downright brutal.
So I made it from 800-ish (I believe) to 1500 points in training because I already reached 1000+ before and the closest HP reward was at 1500. cHawkeye covers were a bonus because I didn't have him covered at the time icon_e_biggrin.gif
    But.
It's nearly impossible to progress past that, even if you had all the time in the world. Firstly, when you top the training, there are no more valuable points left for you, but the matchups are definitely hard. The other players will peck you for more points than you can gain, because even if every forum goer knows that training is worthless except for extra ISO, most players are not here and they wouldn't care if you want to reach that Spider-Man cover and wouldn't give you all the time in the world to crawl there. It's impossible unless somehow everyone (absolutely everyone) gains at least 2000 points there. Those Spidey covers are as good as non-existent. Those who could push the community scores there already have their Spideys and GSBWs covered.
  • Every now and then I go in there with the carrot of those Spidey covers dangling out in front of me. Rack up some points, take a break, and come back an hour later to see I lost a big chunk of the points I had just gained. I can keep grinding but eventually you might bave to dip into your healthpacks. It's a war of attrition, and with timed events also going on those Spidey covers may as well be the summit of Mount Everest.

I use it purely for tanking.
I sacrifice all my low teams to the S.H.I.E.L.D. altar.

Holy necro-ing bugpop! No comments between Oct 27 and April 21, then a random one which contributes nothing to the original topic?

That said.....they just updated S.H.I.E.L.D. Versus to remove two nodes. Kind of wish they included all environments, in a random draw. Plus it would be nice if they reset it with the "seasons." Oh, and made the progressions at least somewhat attainable, without completely nerfing them.

I have the shiny "NEW" tag on my S.H.I.E.L.D. Versus (not sure how long that's been there) but when I popped over to look, I still see 5 nodes (all retals) and the same standings / progression rewards. No clue what's new about it.

I was curious how long it had the "New" tag myself, then went in and discovered it now has 5 nodes, down from the 7 it used to. I couldnt tell a difference in any of the progression either. Yay for stealth changes....that may not even be a change....

Lol, nice bump. To think I was once 3rd in the Shield versus ladder. About 250000 positions lower now! icon_rolleyes.gif
