Are Lightning Rounds always this brutal around 9am PST?
Just did the Hood Round - played my butt off (we're snowed in here in EST) only to finish around 450th. I thought I had a decent midgame team, too. Hood, 61 OBW, and a 50-ish 2* Wolvie (still leveling him), merrily hacking through one lvl 85 Thor after another. Only thing was, every time I'd hit someone for 30 rating, I'd come back to find three other people decided to play me for 10-15 apiece.
So I get maybe 500 ISO for my trouble, woo-hoo. Do I need to play a more defensive team even while playing? OBW and Wolvie are both kinda squishy on defense, but I don't see how even my level 50-ish Thor would've helped, since every time I'd see a level 85 Thor, I'd think "mmm, lunch".

While you're team may be good for attacking, it's extremely weak on defense, making you a ripe target.0

Lightning rounds are pretty much the hardest event in the game: Super short length, unbracketed, and super competitive. With a team like that, you are unfortunately fodder for a lot of players. It's not a horrible team, just not one that can be competitive in the top competative event in the game.
The first day of Lightning Rounds tend to be the stiffest competition I find though, with the second day being a touch less competitive on the whole.0 -
Started when there was only 30 minutes left, got only one hit, finished in top 25, got another blue cover, nice (lv15Hood(011)/lv72Wolv/lv60OBW). Hood lies very nice in any AP deniyng team and, from my very limited experience, his LRs very tame compared to Mag ones, so even I can snatch one-two covers.0

DO NOT take my advice if you are in a job that you must be alert for or in a marriage with a suspicious spouse...
For awhile I used to wake up at 12am on Wed and Thurs morn and play lightning rounds for 5 or 6 hours...I usually placed in top 10, sometimes even winning wiht a sub-par team...The competition is quite a bit less in the middle of the night...0 -
Basically your team is fully mid- low hp base chars, mid level, so it's awesome almost instant kill cannon fodder to an ap boosted max Thorverine0
-
My suspicions are confirmed, then, but it still doesn't give me a way out. Any other team I run is prone to similar problems, given that a Thorverine wasn't exactly tempting me to hit the Skip button.
Maybe I'll stick Ares in there. He seems to make me nerdrage when he's on defense quite a bit.0 -
There's an impending winter storm here in Boston, so I look forward to being able to (hopefully) slam down a couple DD or Loki covers tomorrow. I know it seems silly but DD is a ticket to doing better in Mags LR's (I can only get top 8 when certain people aren't slamming me 5 times in a row once I get there... or play at 3 AM. Which I'm gonna do tonight).0

I saw statistics that show like 15% of the people left for work by 5am in hopes of avoiding traffic, so it turns out that you still get a surprising amount of traffic even at that time. If it's particularly easy to place well at certain time of the day, you can bet people will adjust their schedule for that too.0

Yeah, you need at least an 85 wolvie/thor to be able to do well in the lightning rounds. 51 doom / 85 wolvie / 85 widow is what im running now and i can make it to diabolical range without being attacked. Back when i was running 15 villain / 85 wolvie/widow, my strategy was to grind the seed teams to 100, tank afterwards, and then start a run maybe 40 minutes before the tourney ended (boosted). Starting from the beginning will get you nowhere unfortunately, so try starting later and you might get a lucky run to a diabolical.0 -
Pssh. A maxed 2* Wolvie is one of my primary goals right now - although with the nerf coming, that may turn out to be a wasted effort. Not that progress is being made - he's at 61 and will stay there until I get covers that will come only with luck.
Meanwhile, even with him in play, it's taking me all I've got just to get top 250 or so and a few ISO in the tournaments. I have a not-maxed Wolvie, a not-maxed Thor, and a not-maxed Rag, and am bottlenecking on covers. I'm betting that the MPQ devs believe that rebalancing isn't supposed to make it even *harder* for players like me...0
