Or is there still a lengthy lag in PvP battles left over from when that AP banner used to show up?

    I've never noticed this, but heard others comment about it.

    There used to be, but they removed it with the banners.

    I've been finding more lag in my first few battles as it loads up assets into memory. Eg at the beginning of a battle, it takes several seconds for each character to 'phase' in. After a few battles it becomes smoother though.
