Roster Advice
Im working on my 2 --> 3 transition and I am wondering how I should move forward
I have a pretty extensive 2* roster but I am not sure how to move forward with my 3 stars, how much should I push their lvls for PVE or lvl for better rewards in pvp.
with that in mind my 3 star roster is
lvl 94 4 4 5
lvl 80 2 4 (soon to be 5) 2
lvl 80 2 3 3
lvl 80 2 2 3
lvl 60 3 3 1
lvl 60 4 2 1
lvl 60 2 2 3
lvl 60 4 1 3
lvl 60 1 2 3
lvl 50 3 1 1
lvl 50 2 1 1
Now with that roster, what should I try to push to try to do better in pvp with minimal lose to pve scores,
and is there any covers that would be worth buying?

With the exception of blade you don't have enough covers to make any of these much better than the fully maxed 2* you already have.
I also would not advocate buying 3* covers as the game is becoming all about X-Force & 4hor - no 3* team are able to beat these consistently (I'm not saying you cant beat X-F & 4hor with a 3* team - you can - however, in my experience, you pose no threat to them so expect the retaliation)
If however your not interested in the "meta-game" and just wish to improve your roster gradually Lazy Thor is also a top-tier 3* that you will probably use a lot (getting 5 green would be helpful though).0 -
* don't buy covers unless it's the last one missing and crucial, e.g. 5th hood blue. They will come with time.
* max your blade, he is decent and you have enough covers
* keep the others at their current level until you have enough covers
* try to place top100 in every pvp and see if you can also push a bit higher, maybe consider pushing late and use a 3h shield when there are good rewards and you may reach higher placement
* be patient and play daily. It took most of us some month to transition to 3*0 -
Id offer an alternative thought on maxing Blade: dont. You dont have an extensive enough roster yet to really be in 3* land so PVE is likely better for you, if youre willing to play PVE. Maxing Blade would hurt your PVE scaling, making it harder to place there.
Plus a fully covered 3* at 2* levels can be a fun defensive troll.
As far as advice, dont buy covers unless it is the last for Hood Blue, XF Green/Black, Thoress Blue......maybe DP pink if youre going to WWW bomb?0 -
I disagree with the comment about PVE scaling.
My roster looks about like yours, if you max leveled them all to what their covers would allow and I placed top 20 in the last PVE before the Gauntlet and didn't play the last 16hours. So yes, scaling will go up, but not to where you shouldn't be able to keep up since your characters will have also leveled up. That being said, it may be a good idea to not level the ones that will not at least reach lvl 104 and even out with your 2*s for damage as you can conserve ISO for any other covers you might grab.
What I have seen since leveling my Blade to 124 (most his covers allow at the moment) was that PVP got easier. Less retaliations from 2* rosters (they still come, just not as often) and being able to beat more teams have led to higher scores and better placement. I'm tending to hit top 100 more often then not now with the occasional shield when needed for covers I want.0 -
Really depends on what your goals are. Granted, PVP is the place to go for the best rewards/effort ratio. Maxing Blade and Thor to 166 would probably get you in the 700 range. You would have 2* teams skipping you, and 3* and 4* teams attacking you, only if you are worth the points. With only 2 166s though, you wouldn't be able to play PVP in a single push. You'd need healthpacks, then you'd need time for the healthpacks to regen. 700 range might not even get you Top 25, so you might be looking at just a single cover, with a possible alliance cover. Leveling those 2 would probably hinder your ability to do well in PVE due to noticeable personal scaling, and being out of luck if those characters are locked out of PVE nodes. If you have the ISO and the covers to do it, don't mind the downsides listed above, go for it. If you don't have the ISO or covers to do it, then wait. Gain the ISO, and while doing that, you might come into more covers, and have more options on who you want to take into PVP. You don't want to harm yourself in PVE if you aren't getting a good enough return in PVP.
No need to really level any of your 3*s. They don't start packing more of a punch til in the 120s, I think. Let your 2*s do the heavy lifting in PVP and PVE, and occasionally throw in 3*s to see how they play, how you like them, and decide whether you should level them. Doesn't matter if they wipe in a node, you have your 2*s to do the work.0 -
I kept all my 3stars at 110 for a long time while I was collecting covers. At that point, their match damage and health are slightly better than a 2 star and if you have the covers, their powers are vastly better than a 2 star. Plus, it doesn't do anything noticeable to your scaling. For me, scaling started being impacted when I moved the 3s up to 120 (I could no longer use my 2s on the hardest couple of nodes). Now at 135, I can no longer use my 2s on about half of the nodes effectively.
My thoughts are that if you are going to level up a 3 past 110, you better have the depth to be able to rely only on 3s to be clearing the harder PvE nodes.
Edit: Plus there is no real Iso cost. About 57K to level to 110. Another 116K to level to 1660 -

True, but the OP's Blade is fully covered. Having a single 166 amongst a sea of 94s might cause him some bigger scaling issues in PvE, compared to your Blade at 124.papa07 wrote:My thoughts are that if you are going to level up a 3 past 110, you better have the depth to be able to rely only on 3s to be clearing the harder PvE nodes.
This. If you overlevel a 3* compared to your 2* roster when you're transitioning, you're very likely to notice your lack of roster depth in harder PvE nodes. I would think the low 120s should be fine, though, as per AlexRaven.LukeWin wrote:Really depends on what your goals are. Granted, PVP is the place to go for the best rewards/effort ratio. <snip. And this as well. Max Blade and LThor if you want to push in PvP, but your PvE will suffer for it. Otherwise, take your time, push your viable 3*s to about 120 or so, and enjoy the game.0 -
Train thor and blade for pvp, that's a really good team and it covers 5/6 colors. Train 3* to max lvl104 to keep scaling down as at that level, you can still use 2* without being destroyed by lvl200+ chars.0

Thanks everyone for the advice and yeah I'll just keep my 3* around 104-110 until I get more people covered0

True. I actually had it in my head that his Blade was not max covered when I wrote that. I've looked at too many rosters lists on the forum I think...lol.0 -
Yeah I got really lucky with blade covers, which has made him a huge threat for higher lvl teams, My question was more do you guys think getting blade and thor to 110 would disuade other 2* teams from attacking me, because I want to try to consistently get top 100 at least. and would a 2 5 2 thor at 110 be scarier than a 2* fully lvled covered thor?0

this was the exact same strategy i had going from 2 to 3* land. I like leveling all possible 3* to 110 for the reasons already listed. Plus at 110 if they are the featured character it boosts them to 165 which will give you a great feel of how that character will fight if they were maxed, and will allow you to decide if you think its worth it to invest the iso into that character. I still have a ton of characters at 110 cause i just dont think they are worth taking any higher.0 -
Blade and Thor as you have them right now, might not. However, I don't see why a 110 Blade/max Ares (Thor) or Blade/OBW couldn't hurt. Though, OBW has the worst overlap for both characters.
That said, 2* transition is so hard even when I did it 9 months ago. So, I found when I was finally ready to go 110, I got a good number of defensive wins because other 2*'s just wanted a break from Ares/OBW or Thor/OBW monotony. 2* teams don't play other combos of characters often and underestimated under-leveled but cover maxed characters. My guess is the double dip on OBW and blade's strike tiles could be pretty nice. Ares/Thor has the other side of colors, so you could definitely do worse in pairings.
Just don't go too much beyond 110 until you have many more 3*'s with at least 10 covers. Then you'd have to go against the people more firmly in 3* level. Was a glorious few weeks though where I could still see 2*'s and they could see me for pretty good placements. Might want to hold off until you see a prize you want before you let the MMR Gods know you are about to transition.0 -

Im actually worried I already hit that, I placed outside of top 100 with 533, when I was getting brackets before with 700 pts being ranked 10 -
I don't think any 110s, except a 110 5/5/3 Xforce will get anyone to skip you. I think I had a 124 5/3/3 Patch and 5/4/4 Hulk, and I still saw attacks.0

Oh and regarding everyone else's PVE discussion, I'm a 135 level cap person, myself and am enjoying never having to consistently face anything near 395 event after event. My gauntlet capped out at about level 270. I can take down most any team in a PVP event too with appropriate team composition and non-HP boosts. I don't push PVP often, so I don't mind the handicap since I can do just fine against XF/4hor when needed.0 -
If you keep your Blade 104 or under, OBW with espionage wrecks enemies, particularly mystique in pve. They work very well when you have a RYG tank as the 3rd. The downside is having to choose Pink powers, but it's not too huge of a drawback. I've heard good things about Blade/Thor, but sadly do not have a usable 3*Thor myself.0

Sometimes, you get lucky with bracket placement, sometimes you don't. I've been outside Top 100 with scores in the 600s before and today was the first time in a while, I've been lucky. 642 got me 15th in Webslinger. I had hit 664, grabbed the ISO, shielded immediately, but when the shield took, it said 642. I thought maybe the shield before the points counted. 2 min later, a notice and a retal node show up. Wasn't upset, cuz I got the ISO and at the end, it wouldn't have got me Top 10 anyways.
Many factors to consider for Top 100;
-new covers means a lot of people going for the covers, expect high scoring brackets
-in demand covers means a lot of people going for the covers, expect high scoring brackets
-less likely, but closer to the end of the season, people that may have slacked off or missed events trying to pile on to season scores
-in demand 4* cover at 1000 pts, means more people will be pushing to get that cover. They may or may not shield to protect their scores, but that will mean more activity at the top, score-wise and bracket-wise.
I was able to get a few Top 25 finishes, post-time slices, pre-shield nerf. Most of the vets and shieldhoppers congregated in 4 or 5, so 1, 2, or 3 allowed Top 25 with scores in the 600s. Post shield nerf, you'll find they select convenient end times, or go where they know others are for an easier time finding pts.0 -
orbitalint wrote:Ooof. Hope it levels out soon. It might take a few events though. I find when I place outside top 100 for a couple events, it nudges me into easier brackets. My issue is they like to offer rewards I want about every 3 events, so I ramp back up right as I'm getting good brackets again. MMR must have no idea what to do with me. I either don't care about placement because I need only a few older covers at this point or I push to 800+ for top 25 for new-ish covers.

Was considering a PVP strategy like that, nice to hear it works. And thanks for the PVE info.0 -

blade / spidey isn't too shabby either, for PvE0
