L166 3* CMags and Thor - Who Next?

I just got my 3* CMags and Thor maxed last night and need to turn my attention to another 3* or two--these gauntlet matches where Mags and Thor are on the opposing roster have left me with my pants down since the PvE nodes are scaled to them. aMy next-best are 111 Hood and Fury and then eight maxed 2*. I'm getting attacked considerably less on PvP than I used to

I plan on dumping some money into the game next time they have a sale on HP and I'll be able to cover max Hulk, Mystique, Falcon, BP, Blade, Loki, Deadpool, Storm, or Torch--probably three of them. Storm and Torch are on my "Don't Bother" list and the Sentry I have at 2/2/4 is a long way from prioritizing post-nerf.

I find myself suffering from analysis paralysis looking at my options, so I'm turning to those wiser than me on this one. Where should I focus my Iso spending?

I would say Blade is your best bet. He has Purple/Black powers and he can work reasonably well with either Mags or Thor. Most people don't use Blade because he competes with X-Force for (his op) black but if you don't have 4-star wolvie he is pretty good. Other good choices are Hood and Loki who both are great support characters but they don't do enough on their own so maybe they don't work that well on pvp where your 3rd char is forced on you.

Agree with Blade, he makes a good rainbow matching and works well with cmags and lazythor. Next in line would be BP, he is a high aoe attack and support charakter, after that hulk to get a green generator for lazythor.
  • I used Hood with Cmags and Thor quite a bit for a while. While he's a solid support character, he has comparatively low health and doesn't have much in the way of attack power. The recent change to Twin Pistols definitely gives it more punch but with the move ending the turn its use will be very situational. Dormammu's Aid is a huge help but, when paired with Cmags and Thor, Hood covers both yellowtile.png and blacktile.png so he will be taking a lot of hits.

    Just something to think about.

In your position I would probably prioritize Blade.
  • Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I'm always impressed that in a community where success by one makes success for another more difficult there are so many people willing to help.

In my "stayed up too late grinding the last bit of iso to hit my goal and woke up too early for work" haze, I left out my cover maxed 166 XForce. I think I want to leave XF there since I don't want my PVE opponents to scale to him and he's so strong at 166 anyway. I still think Blade might be the way to go--his green will give strike tiles (even if it's situational on red, I'll get some benefit from it) and his purple will finally make another color useful. At a minimum, it'll give me some breadth when making pushes--more usable characters make for longer play sessions, which (hopefully) will lead to more points and even more covers.

Maybe I'll bring him and Hulk up together with BP. I started the Thor/CMags/XF grind just a couple of months ago, so maybe by May I'll have a pretty solid roster of 3* folks.
  • If you have to make a choice between Black Panther and Hulk, go BP. He's far more useful in active play than Hulk. Strong strike tiles and strong AoE attack vs an okay green board shaker and a decent red. Hulk's big draw is Anger, which is great at 5 covers. But it still requires you to take some big hits to benefit from it.
  • I ended up settling in on Hulk/BP/Blade being brought up together. I've been grinding iso like mad for the last few days and have gotten all three up to level 79. I started feeling a bit plucky and bought an Identity Theft ten pack...

Good news? I saw gold on four of the ten covers.

Bad news? I got a yellow IW that I sold immediately, a purple Loki that I already have three of, a black Punisher that I already have three of, and a purple Mystique I already have four of. I hate the idea of wasting 3800 HP on iso, but I want to go for optimal covering instead of having to respec. At almost 200 days and spending more money on this game than I am comfortable admitting, I should have known better. Three needed covers and 50 HP left over should always trump the luck of the draw. icon_redface.gif
  • Punisher Black isnt exactly a waste, 5/5/3 being the prefered PvP build. Unless you are fighting super boosted 20,000 HP characters, the 30% to 40% thing isn't really worth it. 40% of a typical 10,200 character is only 2500, and with enough use of his green Punisher already does 2000+ on red anyway.

Meanwhile, at 5 Black your AoE damage increases and you get the 2 turn CD instead of 3 for attack tiles, taking advantage of many uses of his green.

40% of 10k is 4k and it has proven useful in many instances especially against characters like hulk or capt marvel where you can't hurt them too much. My punisher is 355 and was awesome for me.
  • I would look for a support, Hood or Loki fit that role

    w0t

    10,200 x 0.40 = 4080.00
