How do the other 2*-3* transitioners feel

Alright, I am on day 154 today. I am firmly in the transition. I have 56 characters with all relevant 2* maxed. I have gsbw and hulk max covered and leveled at 96 but only because I had to buy 3-4 covers each (I didn't have any 3* characters with more than 4 covers at that time). I have since been a little luckier and now have 10 covers for mohawk, 8 covers for blade, patch and cap marvel, 7 covers for punisher, colossus, psylocke and gamora, 6 covers for doom, lazy thor, spidey, sentry and falcon, 5 covers for steve rodgers , HT, hood and fury and various other 1-4 covers. I have every 3 and 4* character except starloard, but only can use mohawk, gsbw or hulk. The rest may have the amount of covers, but they are all in the wrong sequence. I can't do much damage with any of my 3* so they effectively become shields except none of them are leveled high enough to tank most colors. I am at that point where I need to decide if I want to invest more money (already invested at the beginning to get roster spots and open multiple 42 packs) or call it quits. As I am playing this gauntlet, I am noticing that I am in that weird area where my 2* are too strong enough to give me the benefit of not scaling but not strong enough so that I am winning only 1-2 out of every 4 matchs on easy and normal nodes (odds are a little bit better if I boost like crazy). I am not sure if I can finish the 2nd sub and there is no way I will be able to finish the 3rd because the scaling is off the chart for me. I used to be able to get top 100 on pvp's and top 10 on pve's before I leveled my 2* characters, now I am fighting for top 300 (occasional top 100 if I get the right time slice with a late start) in pvp and top 100 in pve. I understand that pvp is for the vets with the max characters and pve is for the newbies who have not leveled anyone, but then what is for us transitioners? I am now feeling like there is no way that I am going to compete as this game has become one where you should either never level any characters and get them max covered for pve or pay huge amount for xforce and thora ($100+ for each) and get as far as possible with them before they nerf them. I am lost and not sure this game viable for where I am in my play. It is getting very frustrating as I am not getting anywhere with the characters I have as new ones keep popping up. I understand the transition is supposed to be hard, but the vets had it for 3-4 months maybe 5 months, but I feel mine will be close to a year before I will get some viable characters leveled and useful at which point there maybe many more that will have outpaced mine...do other's feel the same or am I alone?

The quickest way out of transition is to focus completely on PvP. In your case, max GSBW and Hulk ASAP, and join a top 100 pvp alliance (there are a lot out there, see alliance forums).

If you focus on PvE (like I did), prepare for a long, long, long road. It's a fun one, but definitely not the speediest way to progress.

As a "vet" It was 6 months before I had my first maxed 3*. If you do decide to dump in more money, don't waste it on packs. Especially a 42 pack. And I wouldn't recomend buying 4 covers for some one like GSBW, or really anyone for that matter. I bought 2 Cmags covers before the nerf, 2 sentry before the nerf and 2 hood blue.

As stated, join a top 100 alliance you can grow with. If you perform like they require the reward will be quicker growth for you.

All top 100 pvp alliances want 600, I can't break 400 without seeing max 166...don't know what to do.

You have 2 fully covered characters. Max them, and fight their 166s with your 166s. You have the advantage (hopefully) since this game is tilted towards offense. GSBW/Hulk, while not top-tier, are an effective pair and you should reliably be able to use GSBW's green.

I've easily hit 450, but even had a couple lucky 600+ finishes when I ran a pure 2* team. With a maxed 3* team, 2*s are much less likely to hit you, making for a much easier climb.

    You can do it.

(If you are more PvE-oriented, I'd say just relax and enjoy the transitional journey. Top 100 PvE alliances will want you if you can score decently in PvE regardless of your roster level.)

I transitioned outside the context of a T100 alliance. The difficulty is gaining enough covers in specific 3* characters to make them useful, as you say. Buying 10/42 packs is a terrible idea, as mentioned. I managed my transition by placing T10 or T2 in about six or seven PvEs in a row. You end up getting 4 covers in a specific 3* with every T10 placement (three placement, one in the subsequent progression), and with a little bit of luck, have enough covers from token drops to accumulate a total of nine or ten covers in that character in total, after which they become more useful levelled than your 2*s. I did end up buying a fifth cover in 3* Thor's yellow, and BP's black and yellow in the end to speed things up. As Trisul says, it takes a long time before you get there, though, but there's no rush. Even if you manage a T20 placement, that's still three 3* covers, including the subsequent progression.
  • I am at day 305 and still don't have a maxed 3* character. I have x-Force Wolverine at lvl 200 that helps me get to 575 for the HP. But it made PvE very hard. I can't even finish the first sub for Gauntlet.

I can honestly say that I work harder for the game than my actual work, which sounds very wrong.

The way they continuously put out new and strong characters means you will always play catch up, and chances of getting the cover you need become slimmer and slimmer. You are likely to feel the same way 6 month or 1 year from now.

I would like to quit the game so I can do many other more interesting things, but I can't. This is an addiction that needs professional help.

I would suggest anyone to quit if they are able.

Come join my crew of alliances. We have options to help people get to that range to be in a top 100!

Day 255: 7 max covered 3*s, only one to level 166 but most others are in the 140 range. I focused mainly on PVEs, which helps since if you grind effectively/efficiently, you can almost always get 2 covers. For non-season PVPs, that's a good time to go for top 25 and getting 2 more. I've never purchased a cover.
  • I’m on day 198. I do not have a single max covered 3*. I do have every single 3* and 4* in the game. I have around ten 3* with ten or more covers.

Its very possible for 2* rosters to finish top 100 in PVP events. I rarely finish out of top 100 and I make it a rule to use only a single 3 hour shield. 500-600 each PVP event is very possible. I’ve always enter the slice 8-9 hours before the end time. Stay 400-490 points range until 2-3 hours before the end. Then push for as many points as I can with 5 Healthpacks. Shield and pray icon_e_biggrin.gif

I believe the trick is to hit offensive teams rather than the defensive ones. Ares/OBW/Daken are very solid.

This ^^ I can sometimes break 500 depending on the bracket I'm thrown in but I'm still relying on 2*s to do it, especially now that my Captain Marvel has been vaulted, so there's no hope of bettering her, without dropping some serious HP/Cash to do it. I'm on day 129, so I'm still not sweating it much.

Day 255 here, and I think I am a transitioner by choice. I have done well in PVE, so I would like to continue to do so. I had hung up my competitive PVE hat, but the 8 hr refresh, has allowed me to put it back on. I've finished T2 for both 8 hr PVEs, which is nice, because I could use the Thor red and X-Force green. Trisul was correct earlier, when they mentioned getting to a point in PVP where 2* teams skip you. Even with 2 166 characters, you'll probably get taken on by other 166 teams or 270 teams, if you're worth the points. I have multiple characters at 128, that I can use in PVP, that get the 2* teams to skip me, it seems. I do have a 156 5/5/3 Fury as my highest level, but leveling those others to 128 hasn't made affected me negatively in terms of PVE scaling.

Unfortunately, MPQ requires patience. You need covers and ISO to level characters. You need a cover to buy a cover, so you can't just pay your way to the top. The best way to get covers is PVP and a top 100 PVP alliance. The best way to get into those alliances is by putting up 600-650 minimum, which is possible with 2 166s and some effort, and possibly shielding. Good luck.

    ........wut?

The way I am reading that second paragraph, it sounds like you're saying "it's easy to reach Top 100 in PvP with an all 2* team."

  • I'm not saying its easy. But personally for me, good timing and a single shield is enough to get top 100 most of the time. I do skip defensive teams though. Once I hit 400 points and above, I have to start skipping 166 teams and Ares/OBW teams. The thing is, ISO really isn't a problem for transitioners and soft-capped rosters, we get a lot of iso from PVE.

PS. If the reward is a top tier 3*, its a lot harder. I missed Cap Marvel and Patch last season.

If you have two 3*'s cover-maxed and are interested in PvP, spend the ISO, get them to 166.
If you prefer PvE, you are best off staying where you are.

its high time to speed up this never ending transitional phase i will say.. cover max patch (4x 1250 hp) then you have a power combo in hulk/patch that will carry you in the 600-800 range without any problem.. join a top 100 pvp alliance and grow from there..
  • I think I'm on day 350 without a maxed 3*. (Relatively casual player compared to the rest of you).
I find it impossible to get top 100 without a shield any more. In some events where rewards are desirable, it's extremely hard to get top 100 unless I try shield hopping, and sometimes I just don't bother and drop down to t300.
If I have the featured 3* at more than 5 covers, it seems to be possible to get t50 with a shield. Oddly, the last couple of events I've come close to top 50 with a single shield; would probably have broken top 50 if I had come back near the end of the event.

The transition has definitely gotten harder; getting into a top 100 alliance is more competitive, and I'm not willing to designate my life to one. Plus more people seem willing to pay for x-force covers.
  • Day 122 with 12 maxed 2*. Mostly PVE player, but in T100 PVP alliance. I boost the PVE scores, and they get me the extra PVP cover. I began last season scoring about 500 pts per PVP event. The alliance "minimum" is higher than I can score, but has given me something to shoot for. I had a couple 600+ finishes, but since they lowered the progression rewards, I have always hit the 575 mark for the extra hp. I start with Daken/Wolv for about 400 points, finish with OBW/Ares, and can usually let it sit without shielding and being attacked too much. My final attack run is started with Daken/Wolv as far as they can take me, and I will use OBW/Ares and Mag/Storm to take out tougher opponents. Mid 550-600 is usually enough for top 100, and I've had a couple close top 50 as well. Depending if my alliance can hit top 50 as well, there is usually enough hp earned to cover an 8 hour shield, but I will at least get the 3 hour shield. There is a lot of activity under 4 hours in the event, so I sometimes have to persist and grind out points while getting attacked. Having the 3 good teams to attack with gives me time to let a team heal before I use them again. Getting to the 575 mark is a good goal, and even if you get the reward , then get attacked, you'll be in a good position for reward. I would rather use the hp on shields then buying covers at this point.

Like the OP, I have a collection of 3* with 9-10 covers. I leveled my Hulk to 103 as a defensive deterrent in PVP, so I will start using him. I am soft-capping everyone at 103 to stay relevant in PVE. Since all my iso is now for 3*, I usually level up the character of the next PVP (having a boosted featured character also helps with the score). I earn a growing average of 1.5 covers a day, and about 11.5k of iso, so there is definitely progress. Once I have the covers I want on 4-6 3*, I will save the iso and make the jump to level 135.

I have fewer days played than the OP, but I played most of them over a year ago, when villain Lightning Rounds rewarded 3* covers. Back then, those Lightning Rounds were a clear and steady path through the transition. Playing now, I find that while there's no longer such a path, the supply of 3* covers is more steady and consistent. I like that the rewards for one event are always featured in the next. It's a better game now, even if they're always adding a new frustration for every two they fix.

As someone who had been using Hulk/Patch as my hop team since Sentry got nerfed, let's not overstate what they can do. I was consistently finishing around 650-675 last season with one 3 hour shield. Before the cooldowns, I could use 2 or 3 shields and sometimes could get to 800 with that team, but those days are gone.

Hulk/Patch is still the best team for punching above your weight class. Key covers are 5 Black Hulk and at least 4 Green Patch. Make sure Hulk is leveled higher than Patch and you are set.
  • Day 345 here. Last week I maxed my first 166's, Patch, Hood and Thor. Everyone else 133 or way under.

Since that has happened Gauntlet has become unbearable and I have finished sub-600 in two PvP's. So, um I dunno icon_e_biggrin.gif
