There are many things about this forum that are awesome:

Getting everyone's point of view, discussions about changes, interacting with people from D3 or at least representatives. Get news re: characters, buffs, nerfs, etc.

However there is I see one true negative:

Constant complaining (roster diversity, scaling, PVP brackets, new characters).

For me the positives far outweigh the negatives. So I thought I would ask others:

What are your favourite and least favorite aspects of this forum?

Welcome to the internet, no one is ever happy and everyone is always vocal.

My one complaint is about people who complain about people who complain about stuff not worth complaining about. icon_twisted.gif j/k.
I dont mind any of it. A well thought out rant is just as entertaining as a promising suggestion or a welcome comment. If a thread bores me, I just stop reading it.

Complaining is one thing, complaining about complainers is just silly. And complaining about people complaining about complainers? icon_lol.gif
  • They really need to make a cool MPQ skin/layout for this forum instead of using the ugly default blue one. I'm being 100% serious... I know D3P definitely has plenty of money to do this.

I'm kind of hard on the complainers, but I don't mind them too much. I really like the update news and the ideas that people have for new characters, strategies, game modes, and stuff like that.

There are also a lot of really thoughtful people on the forum. Remember the Colossus icon debacle? The forum actually handled that pretty well, overall. Both the Pro and Cons of that debate were interesting to read and discuss. I learned stuff, at least.

If you think about it, a forum for a competitive F2P game is bound to have issues. Players can't help but to blame other players for their dissatisfaction, particularly since the competition is inherently unfair and tied to real money. And of course, the developers who made the game, and host the forum for people who love the game, must be considered the true villains of the metagame. It's awkward, but this forum is decently civil despite that.

The only thing that really, truly, bothers me is the Ragequit post phenomenon; its like a "come to Jesus moment" and a temper tantrum rolled into one, where people finally admit their addiction after months of bad decisions and slowly mounting regret. Its so difficult to watch and equally hard to be empathetic.

    Otherwise, I love the Forum!

I like that most people are willing to help others on this forum, and there is a lot of insight given that one might not think of. The part I don't like, however, is that you generally have to scroll past the first 3 or 4 responses to an OP so you can get past the snarky comments (especially if the poster is fairly new to the forum). Also, by the 4th page the conversation is on some other tangent that has nothing to do with the original conversation.

The good definitely outweighs the bad.

I really enjoy seeing all the different opinions on how to make the game better. Even in some of the flame wars, I see that both people want to keep the game alive and vibrant, even if they have vastly different ideas about what that takes. I prefer the more civil arguments, where I think it gives the developers a broader idea of who is playing and how they are playing the game.

I am glad to have some access to get the developers to see what we the players see as major flaws. I believe development teams, no matter how well intentioned, can get isolated from their customer base and lose vision on how to keep games fun, and therefore profitable.

I dislike some of the knee jerk first post responses we get to D3's posts.

I HATE when the debate degenerates into personal attacks. Flame with useful information to help forge the game, not attacks!

  • Plenty of things have been named, so I'll point out another thing I like that hasn't been mentioned yet: That the censoring of certain words is fairly liberal. I've been to forums where some prudish spinster of a admin had the censoring degenerate into sheer ridiculousness. And that swearwords are replaced with "tinykitty" is a nice touch.
  • I would say the biggest negative for me is the constant complaining about a free to play game. If you hate it stop playing and you are no worse off financially than before because you didn't spend a penny on it. Why do free to play players believe that covers and levels should come quickly to them relative to people that pay money? Paying players have an advantage? No kidding. The best comments are something like, "it's impossible for your average player to break top 25..." In what self entitled world have you grown up in where "average" players should be given top rewards? Makes no sense.

Just a disclaimer, I have spent money on this game but nothing crazy, I'd say $20 per month and none the past three months.

The best thing would be the very supportive nature of this board, plenty of people willing to help and give advice.

this feeling of entitlement kind of touches a nerve for me because i have to deal with it all the time at work. so i try to bite my tongue through most of the posts but lately i feel myself slipping....

the first page of General has a thread where the developers announced that they were doubling rewards without asking for anything in return. that devolved into an orgy of complaining and asking for 'back pay' (in fairness, i do think one person was kidding). another thread expressed rage against a popular event because it added a fairly nominal reward at the top end, despite the event otherwise having the exact same gameplay and exact same rewards that made it so popular in the first place. those are just the two most egregious examples of this behavior on one page on one forum.

i am going to back off now because i don't want to end up as a different type of serial complainer, but please - this has to stop. let's regain a little bit of perspective please.

the developers do make mistakes - some of them infuriatingly or hilariously bad, yes - but one thing i noticed from day one is that they listen to us and do try to make reasonable changes to make the game better for everyone. i imagine being in the shoes of the developer who made the decision to give us double rewards, then coming into work after the weekend and reading all this tinykitty. i wonder if they have an internal forum where employees post ragequit threads icon_lol.gif

Coming from someone whose primary forum experience stems from Blizzard games (Diablo 3 and Hearthstone mostly)....this place is heaven!

Seriously, has anyone else spent some real time with any Blizzard forum? Soooooo toxic.
So very toxic. It's actually kind of a blast to have fun with trolls and spend time there but it's a horrible environment to discuss anything or offer constructive criticism.

MPQ forums are amazing by comparison.

    - The main general page typically spans several issues rather than 15 pages about the same 2 popular issues. Great!
    - I feel like I can express my opinion and actually be heard by other players (maybe even D3 games). Great!
    - I feel like people can actually discuss things here like adults. It's okay to disagree and say why. We don't just devolve to name calling, racism or worse at the drop of a hat. The environment is far more civil and welcoming. Great!

My only REAL gripe with these forums is the current tendency to use click bait titles in order to avoid the 'repeat issue' policy that keep things clean. I'm sick of these. Even when they don't mask a repeat issue the practice annoys me because there's no way to know what the thread is about without opening it up and reading the first post.

Worse still, it's a nightmare to find these threads when they leave the front page. Was that roster slot cost thread from December under the name "I can't believe they did this...." or "It's time to listen to us..." or was it "Anyone else experiencing this..." *shakes his head*

Great forum all around though. Kudos to the mods who keep this place clean icon_e_smile.gif
  • I come to these message boards to discuss character viability, build viability and discussions on who to level and when in order to get the most return from your ISO/HP.

The complaining is just what I do in between those conversations.

I think the main reason these forums are so much nicer is because there aren't nearly as many people.

With more people inevitably means more trolls and malcontents. And, as we all know, malcontents and trolls are ALWAYS more active than normal members.

I played League of Legends for a little over 2 years and, as it was one of the biggest games in the world, it had a massive forum presence.

You honestly never saw the same person post twice. That's how many people were on this forum.

Or at least you didn't remember them.

And that forum was just...so bad.

Trolls, complaints, threats and other terrible people just flooded the forums. You couldn't even keep up with the front page because threads were made too quickly.

I love this game's forum. However, as more people learn about the game, more terrible people are bound to come to inhabit the forums, unfortunately.

Thankfully I don't feel it too much here.

I read almost every post and whilst I don't comment too much, (because noob), I really like the atmosphere.
There's: News! New features! (that everyone hates icon_lol.gif ), Bugs! - nah - only kidding - it is usually: exciting new characters! , new abilities on existing, New MPQ meme!...
and the same names DO keep popping up, each with their own personalities - to make this place really feel like a community of w̶e̶i̶r̶d̶o̶s̶ passionate MPQ'ers icon_lol.gif .
But I scour every post because I know that the top, active, mega-alliance players much have a much deeper knowledge of the game mechanics. More than they let slip out on the forums and one-day, some-day! - we'll get that gold nugget of information that'll have you up to your armpits in roster slots/HP/4*s icon_razz.gif
    Probably.

    TL/DR: - The forum - it's exciting, suspenseful & has lols icon_mrgreen.gif

I'm going to interpret that as a complaint, so I can complain about complaining about complaining about complainers.

Your compliance in complaining is compulsory.

Better keep at it, at least a little bit. Don't get completely complacent at compulsory complaint compliance.

Thank you very much. I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your servers.
