iTunes credit question

I have $30 credit on my account so I was going to buy the $50 hp to level my xforce up. It popped up saying to confirm the payment, but I want to make sure it uses my credit first. Does it remove the credit before charging the card?

Unfortunately, I have no idea, to be honest with you. I've never used any Apple products, so I can't say for sure, other than saying that would be the logical way for them to process the payment. Best I could say if you way to ere on the side of caution is to call an Apple Store or Apple Customer Service to verify.
  • Hi. I did the same thing a month ago. The iTunes credit will be used first, and $20 plus tax will be charged to your credit card. It credit shows up on the email receipt.

I called the Apple Store and they said it should do the credit first also. I decided to purchase the $50 hp and my billing statement shows 2 charges for 24 and change (1 must have been from earlier when my billing statement wasn't updated), but after checking my iTunes it still shows the $30 credit. I also haven't received an email confirmation yet. How long does it take before the credit shows used and to get the email? I don't want to use the hp until it is cleared.

I can confirm this is accurate - any time you make a purchase, the purchase will drain whatever is pre-existing on your account and chrage the remainder to the linked credit card.

One important caveat is that, in some states, the tax will be assessed on the total rather than the remainder. So you might be paying 50 USD + Tax (-30 USD) rather than 20 USD + Tax, if that makes sense.

That would explain why it is charging $24. Do you know how long it takes for it take the credit on the iTunes?

Give it 24-48 Hours. If nothing changes, contact Apple Customer Support directly rather than your local apple store. You might speak with someone who's not within America / your country, but they'll have more influence over your actual account information and getting your credit situation sorted out.

Thanks. I'll hold off then on using that hp. I appreciate it.
  • I just got off the phone with iTunes. They did confirm that it will use the credit first and if it doesn't show that it took you have to log out and back in to refresh the system. Thanks everyone for the help!
