I remember when the end of a versus season ment we got the gauntlet a non-grind fest for 3-4 days. Do you remember those glorious day? Pepperidge farms remembers.

I'm going to assume it was because of the PvP tests they were running. If they ran a Gaunlet, people wouldn't probably play PvP how they would normally. They'd focus on The Gauntlet.

Lots of people between Seasons do not play PvP normally. I know I do not unless I after the covers for something.
  • Gauntlet is good when there's something good to win (i.e. Green Loki). Other than this, I'm not a super fan, given the crazy scaling I have to face.

Fair enough, but that only exacerbates my point. Enough people already don't care about/play off-season PvPs, why take away from it more when they're trying to collect data?

They don't always run a Gauntlet between seasons. There's only been three of them.

Unfortunately they already take away from them by using wonky formats (to their credit, they are doing Cat-5), having rewards that are underwhelming (Can you ever just be whelmed?) and running PVEs that are off themselves making it incredibly easy for people to completely ignore MPQ.

Whent hey give good prizes in tests people grab the pitchforks. There's no real perfect answer.

At least Gamorra is "new". The Storm rewards PVP didn't seem to be one of the "test" ones, Cat-5 I see teams with no 94's all the way to 300.

Whenever they run Gauntlet, I see many come here with my exact sentiment: "Horray, an event that has no alliance rewards - I get a week off!". I wonder if why we haven't seen gauntlet recently is because it sees less play from the non-forum-going hardcore folks here.

If I want crazy scaling, I can see any normal PVE - which gives rewards I can actually reach both as progression and personal T150/alliance T100.

I'd make a counter point that doing a test with the new format with a good prize is worth the data since it's more relevant. The real point is to NOT test it outright with good prizes first, but you've already had test runs, go ahead and see how it really holds up. Not saying do it for a brand new character, but run it and have Lady Thor or XForce as the top 150/Alliance prize (hell, even Luke Cage would probably bring the boys/girls to the yard). Not new, but still characters people want/need covers for and you'll get a better idea of how these changes will work when there's relevant load and competition for them.

So far, these test runs probably haven't brought out the real crowd (I personally like them since I had no covers for these characters , lol), but you probably don't want the first time for a brand new character to be the first time you really push and test the new system. You need to be able to compare apples to apples IMO.

Apologies, the above is a tangent from the actual thread which is about Gauntlet and I too wish they had it this off season. Makes for a more relaxing week prior to the start of the season icon_e_smile.gif

I mean, I agree with you. It's counter-intuitive to have undesirable prizes, but like I said, if something "good" was up for grabs, there's be endless threads about how they're grabbing for money or have no customer service sense or whatever else everyone seems to complain about.

Gamora seems like a pretty decent prize to me. She's fairly new (I have very few covers) and she's been featured in Lightning Rounds which, at least for me, makes her much more valuable. I'd be very happy if I could manage to get two covers out of this one.

Lol, my counter point would just be how is that different than every other day, SSDD? icon_e_smile.gif Just kidding, it's all good, I don't mind really, love the new stuff you guys have been updating and think it's overall a very positive step. Keep up the good work!

Don't give me credit for their hard work! It's the folks like Will and IceIX and all them red names that do the real work. I'm just a nerd with a mask whom fights spam (and bad attitudes icon_lol.gif).

If they were running one right now, Star-Lord would be essential for it.
So they would either have to deal with under 5% of the player base being able to really participate, or else give out a new 4* as an easy progression reward.
  • They have only had three Gauntlets.

    1. At the beginning of Season VI
    2. Near the end of Season VII
    3. Between Seasons VIII & IX

While we are certainly past due for a Gauntlet (6 events separated 1 from 2 and 2 from 3, but we've had 9 events since), it was never a staple of the of season. I was expecting one though, and would not be surprised to see one next; glad they didn't do it with Star Lord as essential.
  • Let's keep up the tradition of running events for vaulted chars!!
