What if there were 7 PVPs a week?

This was just an idea I had, and I'm not sure if it would work or not (and that's before factoring in addressing the server load):

What if, every day, a different 2.5 day PVP began? That would mean there would be plenty of PVP content for people who want more, and it would also address the transition problem by ensuring that they cycle through many, many more covers in a given time period, and they'd be able to hit every 3* once every month or so.

There would be a lot of changes they'd have to make, of course - seasons would probably have to pick something like your top ten PVPs, and the accounting could get a bit complex, and alliances would need to coordinate a lot more closely for alliance awards (though, except for the very desirable ones, they might be easier to get), but I could see a lot of benefit:
It would make 2*-3* transition easier
It would make ISO/HP acquisition easier
It would keep people engaged in the game as there would be fewer stretches where there isn't anybody you need from PVPs
It would make the 4* transition a little more feasible
It would mean there would always be something to do, as there would always be 2-3 PVPs going on at any given time.

They could do the same for PVEs as well, but I think one new, full PVE a day would be insane (and the rumored daily PVE could fill that need anyway). And I suspect it would put a lot more strain on the servers. But, the more I think about it, I think the good would outweigh the bad here.

It would result in roughly 2x as many covers handed out, which D3 wouldnt like, plus the hardcore would feel internal pressure to perform in all therefore increasing burnout.

As long as half were not tied to a season score, I'd be find with it. Otherwise, you'd be killing people.

Like I said, I think they would need to make it so that your season score was just your top ten PVPs, meaning you could blow half or more of them off and not hurt it at all.
  • Or simply run PvPs outside the season while the season is ongoing. Change nothing about seasons, and just add in 3 off season events per week like BoP or the Lone Star tourney or something. Need the off season event rewards? You play in it. You don't need the covers? Maybe you skip it maybe you play it to 725 for Hero Points.

More PVP's only gives more 3*'s - unless you already have 4*'s and can get to the very top. I'd rather see two-week seasons, which would give out more 3*'s (progression, 10 pack) -and- more 4*'s.

It's actually not a bad idea. Slow people down by making a ridiculous amount of events. It would make it impossible for grinders to play well in every event, so everyone would be forced to make strategic decisions about which events to focus on.

(Just like people are supposed to make strategic decisions about which characters to focus on leveling up. But hey, they'll probably just complain that they can't play optimally in every single event.)

Having the odd events on-going during season and outside of season would be great: this would really help those 2* transition folks who can't get anywhere in regular PVP's.

Top 10 would probably be difficult to switch as far as coding goes. Easiest way is take the existing structure (Mon AM - WedPM, Wed PM - SatAM, Fri AM-Mon AM) as the season events, like normal. Anything else is supplemental.

Anyway, I feel like this would be overkill and difficult to manage, but I also feel like that's a personal problem and not necessarily a format problem. However, I do think there's a delicate balance between enough content (not currently met in MPQ) and potentially having daily PvP and PvE to manage alongside existing PvE, Lightning Rounds, and Seasonal competitions to manage (too much).

1 PVP ending every day actually won't make it impossible for the grinders. With XFW and Lady Thor, I can make it to 1,000 in every PVP (assuming others are doing the same to provide points beyond 700) with just 2 shields and maybe an hour of total play time. Grinders and people with 4*s will play especially if the 1k is another 4* cover

I would rather see 5 PVE start at one time and all run 5 days. You can pick and choose what pves you want and what covers you want to go after. Those who want to grind with gring their minds out within so long and we will never hear from them again icon_e_smile.gif
