Looking for advice about 2-3* progression

Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice about where I should be focusing my efforts in the 2-3* progression. Here's a snapshot of my current roster:
PA7pPQol.pngwKSP0Bpl.png
QMTUgL3l.jpgX0mg5zwl.png
W2MewyDl.pngQ4jnJANl.png
UFHaCFol.pngI600avul.png

As you can see, my 3*s mostly range from 4-9ish covers, but I don't think I have any that are particularly in a usable state, so haven't really bothered levelling any past 94 to keep PvE scaling lower (and I've only really been levelling 3*s when they are essential to have a little more hp to tank stuff). Obviously 3* covers will mostly come from lucky token pulls at this stage, but I would like some advice about which characters I should be trying to get top 100 PvP for especially, since otherwise I've been mostly saving my HP and not shielding so I can buy a few covers if needed. I'll probably be getting another Black Blade cover from the season reward, so that'll bring him up to 10/13 covers - worth levelling a bit further or not?

I pretty much have all the 2*s I need I think, but what are people's thoughts on A Wolv? I haven't particularly felt like I've been missing out except when he's been one of the ones boosted in a heroic, but I have quite a few level 94 2*s already, so would building him up be just a waste of iso?

Any advice on reaching top 100s more consistently? I've been using Ares/OBW mostly to deter attacks, which helps me get to ~500-600, but it seems pretty random on whether that is enough for top 100 or not.

Last question: what covers, if any, should I be considering buying with HP? I'm doing mostly fine on roster slots - only really need 600hp every two weeks for each new character which has been manageable, so I'll be (slowly) saving up HP which I haven't really even been using to shield.

I'd be making my transition play with Blade and Mystique, if I were you. Both are worth levelling. Blade's probably one of the strongest of the new 3*s, and you could pair him with 2* Daken initially. Likewise, you have the right covers on Mystique to combo her with MNMags, so there's your other pairing. I'd skip 2* Wolverine, I doubt he'll contribute much at this stage, and your iso is better saved for your 3*s. Save your HP for shielding to cover max your 3*s. T100 finishes should be possible with your potential roster, but you'll likely need to shield to get there. Deterrence with OBW and Ares won't be enough to hold T100.
  • I'm likely to skip a nasty team like Blade with 5 green/Daken if points are low. A.Wolverine is often buffed in PvE and plays well with oBW, Daken and Blade. I'd level him for the sake of having another decent warm body for PvE and earlier PvP pushes.

Thanks for the responses, couple of follow up questions:

    1) What is the mnmags+mystique combo? Is it just trying to go infinite with mnmags purple and then mystique blue and winning by the match damage?

    2) Would levelling Blade up to ~124 (estimating what I can level him to since I haven't had the chance to go for the PvP black cover yet) make him better than just a 2*? Or should I just be on the lookout for things that reward Blade covers in the meanwhile and going all out in the PvP/PvE etc...?

The Magstique combo is just what you said. It's very effective if you have 5 covers in the relevant powers.
A level 124 Blade would probably be marginally more powerful than a 2*. It's a good start for the transition though, he'll only get better as you level him up.

The 3 stars start doing the same match damage as 2 stars at level 104

I'm looking to make the transition from two-star to three-star myself and would definitely appreciate the advice. FYI, I'm on about day 140.

    Ares Level 94 (5/3/5)
    Hawkeye Level 94 (4/4/5)
    **Magneto Level 94 (5/3/5)
    ** Storm Level 94 (3/5/5)
    ** Thor Level 94 (4/5/4)
    **** Wolverine Level 90 (0/2/1)
    *** Captain Marvel Level 81 (4/1/1)
    ** Black Widow Level 80 (4/5/4)
    ** Wolverine Level 78 (5/3/5)
    Elektra (0/1/0)
    Nick Fury (1/0/0)
    Deadpool Level 66 (0/1/3)
    Gamora Level 55 (1/2/1)
    Psylocke Level 53 (2/1/0)
Rocket and Groot Level 53 (0/1/2)
    ** Daken Level 50 (3/5/5)
    Hulk Level 50 (2/0/0)
    *** Storm Level 45 (1/1/1)
    Blade Level 43 (1/0/1)
    Falcon Level 43 (0/1/1)
    *** Thor Level 43 (1/0/1)
    *** Black Widow (1/0/0)
    Daredevil (1/0/0)
    Punisher (1/0/0)

After I get OBW boosted up, I'll focus on Daken. Been grinding away, but finding getting three-star covers problematic. Been having trouble finishing high enough in events to get that three star covers. I find that once I get to around 400, I get smacked back down and hard. Any advice?

What PvP roster are you using to get to 400? It may very well be the fact that you can't currently stay unshielded above 400, so you will need to use a 3 hour shield at the very least to get to top100.

Honestly, you are not quite close enough to worry too much about focusing on getting any particular 3* covers as your highest 3* is headed for the vault in a couple days. I would Level up OBW and 2* Wolvie. Run them together as a team and Mags+Storm as a team. And use Ares + OBW as a defensive team.

Join the first slice for PVP's as it tends to be better for placement, but not always. Top 100 has been typically just above 600pts recently. Use those two teams to push up as close to that as you can towards the end of an event and shield if you get there. If you don't get close, don't waste the HP on shielding and use it for roster space instead.

In the meantime push at PVE. It should be easier to manage doing both once the 8hr refresh is here to stay and get what covers you can that way as well.

Once you get some 3*s close to the 104 level (about 7-9 covers) then you will know who to push harder for.

I've sat on characters I wanted covered, pushing to try and get more for them, only to have them outpaced by what I was actually able to win. (Looking at you Steve, still sitting at 5 covers after months and now heading to the Vault... icon_e_sad.gif )

I would agree with AlexRaven. None of your 3*s are sufficiently developed as yet to warrant developing. I'd hoard my ISO, and use your HP to shield in PvP when you climb high enough. Climb with Stormneto, defend with Ares/OBW. You'll likely still get smacked down above 400, but if you time your run right, you should be able to T100, and then shield. I'm sure you're already doing so already, but aim for the 4k 10 pack progression season reward.

I'd max out OBW, and personally, I'd consider respeccing her to 3/5/5. An 8AP Aggressive Recon is dangerous on defence, it's only two purple matches with Espionage, before the AI can drop it.

You'll eventually reach a stage where you have one or two 3*s sufficiently developed (usually just by how the chips fall from random token drops, and event placement, especially PvE placement) to warrant focusing on.

Thanks for the advice. I did manage to win the three-star Thor reward from the Thick as Thieves event, but boy what a grind. Should finish with a Star-Lord reward (I hope, I'm 19th in my bracket with 5 hours left) so that should help with the Rocket Event.

Oh, and I did get the 10-pack from the last season, which did not help at all since I got all two-star covers haha.

Hey all, thought I'd just bump my own thread instead of starting a new one for this question. So after some nice PvE events with useful cover rewards (Hood!) and some lucky token pulls, I have a few 3* people at 11/13 covers:

    Blade: 5/2/4
    C.Marvel: 4/4/3
    [Falcon: 5/4/2]
    R&G: 2/4/5
    Hood: 4/4/3

I have 2750hp currently, so I can buy two 3* covers. I'm probably not going to be buying any covers until Hood Yellow is DDQ's reward (hopefully in the next rotation) in case I pull a Hood Blue from a token (or taco token) before then, so I don't waste the hp buying Hood Blue but are any of the above worth buying a cover (or two) for so I can use Featured/Hood/X in PvP? I have 432k iso and all of the above are already at level 94, so levelling them up to 166 won't be an issue once I have the covers.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Xequalsy,

When i look at these character, i feel a bit disturbed as most of them are more wingmen that top characters, according to me: Hood and Blade are great and deadly, but if there isn t any top character, you will suffer in defense during pvps, as they will be the first to be put down...
Captain Marvel could eventually be the "top" character, but she only has a black power which is interesting: R and G will be hard to kill and maybe could be a nice character too, but...

Maybe you should wait until you can get covers for a more powerful character (excepting the famous 4*, i think of Lthor, Luke Cage, Hulk, even Steve Rogers for instance) to level up Hood to the max, even if you complete him, as he needs to be protected a bit: if you re really impatient, i would vote for Blade (his color makes him a perfect partner with a lot of characters...) icon_e_smile.gif

Thought I'd provide a little update on my transition. Here are my top 3-star characters, as things stand now.

    X-force Wolverine (I know he's not ***) 2/3/2, Level 147
    Captain Marvel: 5/2/1 Level 104
    Luke Cage: 4/3/1 Level 104
    Gamora: 3/3/2 Level 102
    Thor: 2/4/1
    Deadpool: 1/2/4
    Rocket & Groot: 2/2/3
    Storm: 3/2/2

Slow and steady, but progress is being made.

Keep at it. icon_e_smile.gif I've finally finished my transition myself, sitting with 166 R&G, and Hood and two more 3* cover maxed around day 191. It's a little frustrating when they rotate out characters you have a lot of covers for, but with DDQ you'll get there eventually! Good luck.
