Your take when roster slots become pointless

I'm asking when using gold on roster slots becomes useless versus buying covers or whether this never happens? With constant additions you'll be strapped of either covers or iso, so for a player who has to manage gold is it useful to keep gathering roster slots or save on leveling?

  • roster slots become pointless when you decide that working your **** off for a week in pve to win a character comes with the cash equivalent cost of having to spend $7+ in HP for the PRIVILEGE of actually adding him to your roster without having to scrap a character you also worked your **** off to get.

im at 50 and i kind of feel stupid and dirty for going this far. i now face the decision of purposefully not winning new characters and focusing my efforts solely in obtaining covers for my existing characters. im slowly gaining hp and will use it for buying covers. its going to depend strictly on how far you are willing to go and having the discipline to say enough is enough.

It depends on how compulsively you feel about needing to catch 'em all...

You should gather roster slots until you have a good set of maxed 2* characters (OBW, Ares, Thor, CStorm, MN Mags will probably see you through; add Daken if you want), then buy more slots as and when you want to recruit 3* or 4* characters. For a general sense of priority, check out Polarity's guide here: http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3939. Don't worry if you can't get the absolute top tier 3*s, if you happen to win or obtain enough covers in a particular 3* it'll still help you to win more (in most cases).

If you don't think you'll use a particular 3* - either because they won't work well with your others, or because they suck - don't buy a slot for them and sell their covers if you happen across them. If you're super competitive in PVEs, you may need to recruit some new characters anyway as they tend to be required for Essential nodes in the event immediately following their debut; it's up to you whether you want to save HP for a slot for each one, or just keep one slot free for a "guest 3*" when necessary, selling them after the event.

It really depends on where you are in the game (I need to update my guide for this at some point). The best way to think about this is theres really two scenarios where buying covers actually matters:
    1. It would help you cover a 3* character that will allow you to hit top 25 semi-consistently.
    2. It would help you cover a 4* character that will allow you to hit top 5 semi-consistently.

Covering a character in any other scenario is for the most part just a complete waste of HP. For example, while it would be nice to have a fully covered squirrel girl for her PvP, since you will never use her outside of her featured tournament, she's basically a waste of HP. Even for decent characters like Cage, people who have XF / LadyThor will rarely (if never) use him in PvP over XF / LadyThor so it's a waste of HP to level him as well.

Speaking from a veteran's perspective, spending HP on slots to give you more options and allow you to have an advantage in PvPs where unused chars are featured is far more important than wasting HP on a character that I'll never use and just get the covers for 2-3 months later for free.

TLDR: It's only worth it if the character allows you to get significantly better awards than you would otherwise, and a waste of HP otherwise.
  • When 4*s become more frequent but their skills suck so badly that you buy a spot for squirt(squirrel) girl over a spot for elektra and skip the pve cause star lord seems like a bigger joke. I mean a 4* that does no damage!!!! You know what skills would of been perfect.

    1. if he placed an 8turn timer on the board for blacktile.pngbluetile.pnggreentile.pngpurpletile.pngredtile.pngyellowtile.png every, and every turn he steals from the opponent or the board an ap of every color. So if there was a timer for blacktile.png on the board but the opponent doesn't have black ap than one from the board would be destroyed and added to your ap stock.

    2. To reduce and increase friendly and opponents abilities a player should always maintain 8 or more GREEN ap in his ap stock. Why green? Because is the most used and deadliest color on mpq so far. Why 8? X force ap cost is 8 but it would cost seven leaving you wit 1 extra green on stock after casting it and to keep it from getting over used.
  • I have 60 slots at the moment. Soon to be 61. I have every single character.
    I possibly have OCD. icon_razz.gif

But yes, I do roll my eyes at the expense by now. At the moment I'm still having fun with the lot of them and enjoying myself using those I normally don't use for easy PvE nodes or the start of PvP (I've actually discovered good combos that way!), but I might get frustrated eventually and sell some bad ones. Maybe.

Also have 60 slots, also want to "catch-em all". But that's it, that's my breaking point. Really, if it wasn't my OCD before, 55 would be my breaking point. #61 costs 800, but #56 cost 750, which was to much. 750 x 2 = one three star cover, worth much more than keeping 1* or many of the 2*.
  • Near the end of Season 7 when 4Thor and some new character were released at the same time, I said **** it. I had 50 roster spots but my HP was never over 1000. At that point I started unloading useless characters that I never used and currently have 6 4*, 33 3*, Thor, Ares, Wolvie, oBW, Storm, Mags, Juggs, and a stun only mBW. That's 47, so I have 3 more to dump before it becomes decision time again.

The good news is that I am at 7450 HP with my XForce at 3/4/3. Guess who is getting my HP

I'm in the same position as you. Started looking to see how much it's going to cost for Star-Lord and it's up to 800HP! EIGHT HUNDRED! Can we please cap the cost, for the love of Thanos?!?
